Lineup Optimization
The shitty lineups suck, but to me the bunting takes the cake. It’s embarrassing how much Renteria bunts.

8/5 | Sox @ Tigers | Gio vs Turnbull | 6:10PM CT
Goins is growing on me. He likely wouldn’t cost more than $1.25-1.5M next season. Could do worse as your 25th man. Dude has a great eye and can play some d. Has lit together good at bats, and picking up mostly where he left off in Charlotte. Definitely taking him over Yolmer at the price.

Hahn expects aggressive offseason
You, legitimately, have no idea what you’re talking about. It wasn’t about trying to extract more future value in trade for Colome. It was about not acquiring broken prospects or AAAA players for a guy who could really help this pen next season. This deadline was without a doubt a buyers market. There were a couple deals that seemed to favor the seller, but generally those were moves that had guys with a lot of cheap control moving. Colome is obviously not that. Hahn has very little to trade. A tad disappointed we didn’t see Nova/Jay/Castillo jettisoned our of town, but the first 2 actually serve some purpose.

Madrigal Promoted to AAA
Lol, I am not being dramatic. You don't have to like what the club has decided to do, but its probably best to come to terms with it. Robert (and Madrigal for that matter) are not playing in the major leagues until next May. Sorry.

He can opt out of the 3 years and $62.5M remaining on his deal if he so chooses.

Madrigal Promoted to AAA
Well, you did say "I mean it may be for the best as far as financially", which would indicate that you think the Sox are partially motivated to do this to save money. Which really isn't a factor here at all. Robert isn't rotting in AAA. He has 650 minor league at bats, and about 200 over A ball. He turns 22 tomorrow. He missed the majority of last season hurt. The Sox aren't ruining this kids development by letting him spend another 30 days in AAA. I get everyone wants to watch him in the bigs. If they called him up tomorrow, I'd be excited too! But I am willing to wait because I know it will be worth it in the end. I am 29 years old. I have a lot of White Sox baseball ahead of me. I know this team could be juggernaut in 22-26, and I know they suck balls right now. I'd prefer to have 28 year old Robert on this team than as a first year player on the Yankees after he signed a $500M contract.

Ya, we're all tired of waiting. It sucks. But brighter days are on the horizon. Good things come to those that wait. I'll say it again - no reason to lose patience in the 11th hour.

Twins will without a doubt be picking up that $12M option.

Yes, I am aware. Basically saying you resign Abreu for 1B/DH, the RF HAS to be a switch hitter or lefty.

A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron
Yes, Grandal at 4/$60M is a WAYYYYYY better value than Abreu at 2/$25M. I think Grandal is closer to 3/$60M or 4/$70-75M, and Abreu closer to 1/$10 or 1/$18M, though. I am going to lose my shit if the Sox waste $25M on Abreu. IF you want to bring him back on a short term deal fine. But it should be like a 1 year $8M deal with a $10M club option. If they give him more than 2/$18M, they're just flushing money down the toilet. You could do both though. DH is open. 1B is open. McCann probably shouldn't catch everyday. Grandal and Abreu is doable, but most definitely need a left handed RF Then.

Cron is not going to be a FA unless he is non-tendered again, and I kind of doubt he will be.

Grandal is the best fit. And better yet, he can catch too! Justin Smoak kinda sucks, but could probably do worse than him on a cheap one year deal if he is paired with Grandal and a legit RF acquistion. Need some lefty bats, and he takes his walks.

Braves release LHP Luis Gohara
I see the report on MLBTR says he cleared waivers, so perhaps the 48 hour period was one of the changes this year.
-
Braves release LHP Luis Gohara
That being said, he's had shoulder issues, so he very well may be toast. But Sox should sign him - there is virtually no risk is doing so.
-
Braves release LHP Luis Gohara
I think they just released him without putting him on waivers. Not enough time has passed - pretty sure waiver period is 48 hours at least and it hasn't been that long.

Sox make no deadline moves
Seems as though Jesus Sanchez was available. Probably not for Jose, but perhaps Jose and Colome. That is a deal I for sure would have done.

Madrigal Promoted to AAA
Financially it makes virtually no difference. This isn't a "White Sox being cheap" move. Its a White Sox trying to maximize the control of a potentially elite major league player move. I have no doubt that if the Sox were actually in the race for something this year, Robert would be in CF right now. But they aren't, and so we wait until mid May 2020. But this discussion has been beaten to death, so I am just going to stop commenting on it.

Madrigal Promoted to AAA
I for one am glad the FO isn’t rushing this thing because the 24-26 seasons “are not that important”. They are trying to build a team for sustained success and a big part of that is spreading out free agency and having waves of talent. I am okay being patient, but admit it all changes come May 2020, and they damn better flex their financial flexibility this offseason.

Welington Placed on Personal Leave List - Not DFA'd; Zavala recalled; Skole's contract purchased
Well, fuck. Thought they had DFA'd Castillo for sure. Makes a little more sense why Seby would come up as opposed to Collins if its just a short term thing though. Skole is still a head scratcher for me. Some feel it may just be for the weekend since no DH. We'll see.

Rutherford vs. Walker
Lol, you're all over the place within a single thread. You just make shit up as you go.

Rutherford vs. Walker
Adolfo does not need to be on the major league roster until opening day 2022. There is PLENTY of time for him to get back on track.

8/1 Games
Just read this whole thread. Holy hannah - some hot takes.

Meh. All the fans will be back on the bandwagon next season. The slight benefit you MAY get in calling elite prospects like Robert and Madrigal to the bigs for 150 at bats in 2019 is far outweighed by the benefit you 100% for sure DO get in 2026 contractual control.

No, Goins would have to be DFAd to be removed from the active roster. I can’t believe I am going to say this - and to be clear I do suspect he’ll be released and removed from the 40 man after this season - but he’s controllable for 2 years after this one. Sox may elect to keep him around as a 25th man option heading into next season if his 40 man spot isn’t too in demand. Should be 20% the cost of Yolmer and Goins has been pretty good all year.

A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron
I think the fact that they aren't going to extend him is hopefully a good sign that they're not going to give him some horseshit deal like 2/$25M.
