  1. They don't even have to get rid of Reed! He has an option!
  2. I hope the whole staff is shitcanned. Doubtful, but a man can dream.
  3. I've got a bet with a Twins fan at over .275. He'd need to be dreadful for the next two months to drop that far, but.....
  4. No shit. No participation trophies in free agency. But I also don't have my head so deep in the negativity sand that I don't think those dollars won't be deployed elsewhere.
  5. What the White Sox offered Machado was, at the time, the third richest contract in the history of major league baseball. Obviously it didn't happen. But to think they're just going to sit on that money is now is such a funny take. Unfortunately, most people won't believe until they see it, and even if the Sox do some damage in free agency this year, unless they sign a Cole, Strasburg or Rendon, a lot of the usual suspects will still being saying it.
  6. This game on national tv or something? Getting blackout on my mlb.tv.
  7. Got it! So they'll spend money, and perhaps alot of it. but you just assume it'll all be poorly spent. Makes sense - context isn't important.
  8. Yah, that's one of the biggest issues I've had with this season - especially after a 6 win July. Why not try more guys out? Now that the deadline is passed, why are Jon Jay and Welington Castillo still here? Why is Ross Detwiler starting on Saturday? Why is Josh Osisch still on this roster? I know Goins has been pretty good (actually thought he may be traded purely as a depth move for someone) - but again, there is really no reason for him to be playing at the major league level right now. The tank is on in full effect - at least give guys who have a sliver of a chance to be a part of the future a chance. There is no reason why Mendick, Collins, Mercedes for starters aren't here today. And I'd much rather see Kyle Kubat get his tits kicked in than watch any more Ross Detwiler starts. I know Flores is still working his way back from injury, but he should get a shot in the next few weeks too.
  9. Because they'd prefer to b**** and moan. That's really all there is to it.
  10. So, just so we're clear, your expectation is that the Sox plan to move forward with one of the lowest payrolls in the game?
  11. Conforto is great, but as others have said, he's going to be expensive and is only controlled 2 years after this one. Not sure I'd be willing to pay the price to get him. His presensce (and with McNeil) is what makes me think that Nimmo may actually be attainable. Nimmo has a little less power, but they're actually similar players. Nimmo was actually quite a bit better than Conforto in 2018 (148 OPS+ for Nimmo vs. 122 for Conforto) when both played 140+ games. Nimmo's injury history definitely gives you some pause, but its also the only reason his price shouldn't be astronomical. Nimmo would also come with three full years of control, and since he was hurt all of 2019, his arb 1 salary should be pretty reasonable.
  12. He just got traded, so no compensation pick. But Puig really isn't that great of a fit. Lineup gets so right handed if the RF we add isn't a lefty (or switch hitter). I suppose as a backup plan, I wouldn't hate it if paired with someone like Grandal for C/DH.
  13. I was never sure he'd be available. He's just a good fit, and shouldn't be outrageously expensive. That team is so left handed in the OF, I fell like they could afford to part with him. But yah, hard to handicap BVW.
  14. Because they are fantastic fits for what this clubs needs.
  15. Gross. How do you not give Mendick a chance? Especially with Madrigal taking over 2B at Charlotte.
  16. We can talk about names until the cows come home, but its all speculation at this point. The reality is 95% of the fanbase has no confidence in the organization or specifically the FO, so no one believes they'll make the right moves. Hard to argue with that position - though I think its also fair to give the Sox some credit for the core they've built. That being said, the bottom line is the payroll committed to 2020 as of right now (assuming no Abreu and Yolmer is non-tendered) is around $45M. I am confident the White Sox will at a bare minimum be over $100M. You can do the math - that is $55M minimum that will be added to 2020 payroll. That should give the Sox more than enough room to add a good SP, RF, a depth SP, a 1B/DH type, and a bullpen piece or two. And frankly that is all they really need. LF, CF, 3B, SS, 2B C, at least three rotation spots and most of the bullpen is already in place. SP #1: $20M SP#2: $10M 2 Relievers: $15-20M 1b/DH type: $10M That puts the Sox right around $100-105M. I personally think they'll trade for a RF and not sign one of the FA market. I've already stated who I think the best options are, so no need to repeat. Time will tell, but they aren't going to rock a $60M payroll next year, and they aren't going to spend their money on shitty stopgaps when the majority of the next core is in place.
  17. I’m not even referring to this particular injury. Obviously he is hurt needs to spend 10 days on the DL. But Moncada has multiple times even just this season left games due to minor injuries. This isn’t like this is the first time it’s happened. The dude is super good and it’s not that big of a deal, but he’s made it abundantly obvious that he doesn’t like to play through pain.
  18. It’s insane. The White Sox rebuilt guys! They didn’t become bottom dwellers in annual payroll obligations for fun. I know you all mock the saying, but there will be a good amount of money spent. They have legitimately boatloads to spend. At least try to be objective!!
  19. What do you think payroll will be next year?
  20. What do you think payroll will be next year?
  21. I said that. This hardly changes my take. The dude gets knicked up and acts like he’s seriously injured frequently. It’s not really a bid deal, and neither is this minor hamstring strain.
  22. Once 2020 comes, I am less concerned about draft picks. Time to build a major league winner. It what you rebuilt for and the majority of the next core has all arrived by next May.
