03/26 vs. Arizona 2:40 PM
With Jay likely starting on the IL, who is the 25th man? Made this post in guess the OD roster, but we pretty much have 24 of the 25 spots on the roster set. Who takes the last spot? Lineup: Leury CF, Moncada 3B, Abreu 1B, Alonso DH, Jimenez LF, Palka RF, Anderson SS, Castillo C, Sanchez 2B Bench: Engel OF, Rondon IF/OF, McCann C Rotation: Rodon, Lopez, Giolito, Nova Pen: Colome, Herrera, Jones, Frare, Fry, Banuelos, Burr, Covey IL: Jay and Santana That is 24 on the active roster. Who takes the final roster spot to start the season? We could use another infielder added to that group, so will Mendick be added to the 40 man and get a weeks on the big league roster? Maybe something more boring like Goins? I believe 40 man is full, and both Mendick and Goins would need to be added.

Guess the Opening Day 25 Man
With the news that Jay is likely to start on the IL, Rondon on the roster, Santana to make his debut on 4/10, and the majority (all?) of the bullpen set, who is the 25th man? Lineup: Leury CF, Moncada 3B, Abreu 1B, Alonso DH, Jimenez LF, Palka RF, Anderson SS, Castillo C, Sanchez 2B Bench: Engel OF, Rondon IF/OF, McCann C Rotation: Rodon, Lopez, Giolito, Nova Pen: Colome, Herrera, Jones, Frare, Fry, Banuelos, Burr, Covey That is 24. Who is the final roster spot to start the season? We could use another infielder, so will Mendick be added to the 40 man? Maybe something more boring like Goins?

Jay injury update
I like. If Leury can stay healthy, and that has been a major if to this point in this career, I think he can be a nice player.

Jay injury update
Jon Jay is going to be useful enough to have around. I am fine with him riding the pine pony in favor of Leury, Palka, Rondon and even Engel, but at some point he's going to be needed and a high OBP guy that can cover all the OF positions is useful enough. I know everyone hates him because he is a painful reminder of what could have been, and he's getting paid like $2M too much, but let's not lose sight of the fact that he is likely the 2nd best all around OF on the roster.

Eloy officially got paid
This has been discussed at length. The reason Machado and Harper ended up where they ended up is because the traditional powers were tapped out. It’s not because they weren’t two of the most elite free agents this game has seen in decades.

3/25 @ Arizona
seriously. Was looking forward to watching the game all damn day.

Do you live under a rock? I am now convinced you live under a rock. Or aren't much of a sports fan. We can certainly take issue with you saying that he is not "elite" at anything. Manny Machado is a phenomenal defensive 3B. You said he wasn't good defensively. The list of better defenders at 3B is at most 2 players.

You’re wrong dude. May as well admit you don’t know what you’re talking about and move along.
-
Eloy officially got paid
Lol, nothing like doubling down on stupid. He’s played 3B the vast majority of his career. He asked the Orioles to play SS basically to improve his FA stock and prove he could play there. He did play SS for LAD, because ya know, their SS was hurt. Hes an elite 3B, and was going to play 3B no matter where he signed.
-
Eloy officially got paid
He’s a 3B. He played SS for a small amount of time basically to prove he could for FA. He’s a very ELITE defensive 3B, which is where he would have played for the Sox. Pay more attention.

Eloy officially got paid
Lol what? Manny Machado isn’t good defensively??! And you claim a currently very skinny and in shape guy is going to be fat because....he doesn’t hustle to 1b? What are you talking about?
-
Jay injury update
You’re......a few days behind there man.

How in the world is this game not on Mlb.tv? Was so pumped to watch.

Guess the Opening Day 25 Man
Is Burdi going to be healthy to start the year? Or start on AAA IL?
-
Ian Happ
Me thinks if the Cubs would trade Happ for Colome he'd a Mariner. Or already on the Sox.

Lol. Stailey sucks. Its likely Giolito sucks too, but he is a former #1 overall prospect and is just 24 years old. He also has an option. There is absolutely 100% zero reason for the Sox not to give Giolito 2019 to try to figure it out. I bet 29 other clubs would be happy to have Giolito. A good chunk would put him in AAA and pray for a revival there, but this isn't some garbage piece that no one would want.

Eloy officially got paid
Not really. He said that he's had an opportunity to move for work for sometime, but has been hesitant because he loves the Sox and wants the ability to take his kids to Sox games. But in the heat of the moment following a massive letdown and failure from our FO, he said he may finally pull the trigger. Slightly different.

Agreed. I am all for Jay riding the pine pony in favor of Leury. New lineups until Leury breaks: RHP: Leury / Jay CF, Moncada 3B, Abreu DH, Alonso 1B, Castillo C, Eloy LF, Palka RF, Anderson SS, Sanchez 2B LHP: Jay / Leury RF, Sanchez 2B, Abreu 1B, Castillo C, Rondon DH, Eloy LF, Moncada 3B, Anderson SS, Engel CF

Frare too. Hahn has done a very nice job assembling a crop of very interesting bullpen arms in Chicago and the upper minors. Credit where credit is due.

Could be Frare too. Otherwise we'd be holding 3 lefties. I think Covey hangs unless he has a rough start to the season.

That is a reasonable take on Nate. Herrera not so much. By the way - do you have any single post out of your 171 that aren't blatantly negative?

3/24 Sox vs Indians, 2pm, NBCSC
He has made 117 starts in his career. He debuted in 2011 and made 28 starts. He has matched or exceeded that number once since. He’s averaged less than 15 starts per season in his career. He could be solid this year if he stays healthy, but relying on that at this point is crazy.

If Pineda makes 15 starts, it will be a minor miracle.

Spring Training Thread
Nicky still has at least 2 more years of options. Sure he's on the 40 man, but there is plenty of fat to trim before he was would be on the chopping block. I'd be very surprised if we've seen the last of Nicky in a Sox uni.
-
Burr, Banuelos, Covey to Pen
Hamilton would be in AAA or on AAA IL/DL. He isn't starting on MLB IL. Don't have options list in front of me but don't believe it is an issue with him.
