  1. Yah, major league teams aren't handling several hundred million dollar contracts in this fashion.
  2. Just my opinion, but I think signing Machado helps get Harper. My guess is both is a very unlikely, but Machado has always been my preferred target. We have guys that play a corner OF in the next few years. We don't have a 3B (unless you want to count Moncada) that can be counted on anywhere in the system. Get Machado signed for a frontloaded 10/$340 with an advantageous opt out after 5 seasons, and turn around and offer Harper the same deal.
  3. Im going over. Phillies worry me.
  4. RIP all Soxtalk members if this is the case.
  5. Honestly, it is going to be ugly if the Sox don't get either. And frankly, they'll have no one but themselves to blame. They didn't HAVE to make it seem so attainable.
  6. How is this conversation still going on? It’s unreal. sox done don’t sign say source Cubs May dump Harper if he wait. Chill out guys manny don’t sign for $50 less cmon
  7. If that is the best offer currently, I don't think this thing is ending any time soon.
  8. If Manny Machado wants to walk out of a meeting with a ball club after 1 hour, 3 hours, 6 hours - whatever amount of time - he can and will do that. If he doesn't want to sign somewhere and in his mind, that decision is made, why waste the rest of the day listening to pointless BS? The dude is at minimum going to make $35M a year over the next half decade. He isn't going to GAF what people have to say if he isn't interested. It may not be "good business", but I frankly don't think he's going to be too worried about it if his mind is made up. He is already a wealthy man, and is going to be one of the richest baseball players in history in a matter of weeks. Also, the talk about him doing this for his agent is one of the dumbest things I have heard the last few weeks. Manny's agent works for him - he's not doing this for anyone but himself.
  9. $330M. Years 1-4: $40M Year 5: $35M OPT OUT Year 6: $35M Year 7-8: $30M OPT OUT Years 9-10: $20M
  10. DA, you just love to argue pointless things for the sake of arguing, don't you?
  11. First off, Yolmer isn't very good. I'd definitely take a healthy Tulo (which is a big if) as a starter at 3B (if MM ship sails) at the major league minimum over Yolmer. If he doesn't workout, there is literally nothing lost. Yolmer will still be there. $500k is nothing for the Sox. Its worth the extremely minimal risk, and clearly they're at least somewhat interested since someone went to watch his workout. The Jays just wanted to move on. It wasn't due to accepting or not accepting. They have other options and Tulo was just a distraction at this point. Alot of baseball people are also scratching their head at the Jays decision to just cut him loose. Tulo isn't signing with the Sox though. He's going to sign with someone out west.
  12. Yah, I think its just the "agreeing to terms" part that is left. Contract details and drafting can be hammered out between agreeing to terms and official announcement. I I think we hear about Manny's decision by Sunday at the latest.
  13. Id be shocked if at least ballpark offers are not already on the table.
  14. So you're either Soxnet on Twitter, or that dude just copy and pasted this post as as tweet.
  15. Aren't you just a ball of fuckin' sunshine.
  16. Rooting for Putnam. seems like a good dude, and he was actually quite good for the Sox when healthy.
  17. I'd definitely add him to the mix for $560k or whatever ML min is this season. Why the heck not? That being said, if the reports are true that he basically only wants to play SS, then I doubt we'll get him. He is also a west coast guy, so I bet we see him sign with the A's, Angels or Giants. Or Dodgers, would definitely be a Dodger move, even though there is really no room for him there.
  18. Regarding the bolded, those guys clearly aren't paying attention.
  19. Id do it pretty quickly, which means the Dbacks probably wouldn't. I like the idea though, and its definitely creative.
  20. You're not getting either player for these terms, and we know the Sox are offering more than that or MM and Harper wouldn't be wasting their time. And both are going to get opt-outs, and likely will take them. Paying Harper $30M+ in his 30's probably isn't going to happen, because he'll have opted out and someone will be paying him more!
  21. What do you consider a bad deal? Can't wait for this answer.
  22. Everyone is going to want Arenado. Waiting for him would be stupid.
  23. Dunning could probably pitch in the majors right now. The chances of him never cracking it are very low, unless he has career ending injury.
  24. Erasamo Ramirez gets minors deals with Red Sox.
