White Sox inquired on Catcher Gary Sanchez from Yankees
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 7, 2016 -> 07:47 PM) Post does not match quote lol Lol, yah whoops. Was going to respond to that one but changed my mind. It is responding to a black hole.

How about Brian McCann instead? Realistically, I don't see the Yanks selling unless they have a rough couple weeks.

Carlos Gonzalez expresses interest to be traded
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 7, 2016 -> 03:23 PM) Here we go. Knew this was coming .750 OPS away from Coors field in 2016; .758 in 2015. That's Rios. Hahn set that value: Leury Garcia. (really should be less considering that Rios made 60% of Cargo's money) Paying anything more than the value of a .758 OPS earning $20 million a year is wishcasting. That's all it is. LOL

Carlos Gonzalez expresses interest to be traded
I think Cargo would be just about exactly what we need. I am all for it. If you can get him for a package of 2nd tier guys while eating all of his contract, I say do it. But that's unlikely. Something like Engel/May, Guerrero, Danish and Hawkins. But I highly highly doubt the Rockies will move him without Fulmer or Anderson, which I don't see the Sox doing.

7/6/16 - Yankees @ White Sox - 7:10 - WPWR
QUOTE (kevo880 @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 04:45 PM) Do you think Avi will be sent down to AAA when this happens or just get less AB's? Hopefully. Maybe he'll find something down there.

Let's Rebuild the Sox
QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 03:53 PM) Holding onto Rodon is lose-lose. You wait and wait for him to be a cheap great pitcher, and then by that time he's a near-lock to leave since he's w/ Boras Other scenario: he doesnt become good. Interesting theory. You don't trade a pitcher with ace potential and 5.5 years of control that is dirt cheap for 2.5 more years, just because one day he is going to leave via free agency.

Avila leaves game, placed on DL. Narvaez called up
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 01:59 PM) Have you ever watched Smith play an inning of baseball to definitively say Nieto is better? I think he is talking about Hayes.

Avila leaves game, placed on DL. Narvaez called up
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 01:40 PM) If Hayes really COULD catch, he would be on the White Sox right now...that's like calling Saladino a catcher. He is on the DL, so no, he wouldn't be.

Avila leaves game, placed on DL. Narvaez called up
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 11:32 AM) It is a bit weird that they'd protect Carroll over Hector Sanchez. Why would any other MLB team want Carroll desperately? Despite all the MLB pitchers we've gone through, we still haven't used Carroll or Turner. So now we're going to have to sacrifice Narvaez to the wolves. Not that he was a top prospect or anything. Reminds us, though, that stowing away the A+/AA Cuban catcher from the Nationals for an entire year had ZERO payoff at all. He's where he would be invaluable...or would have been, that experience. Yah, you think it would have been worthwhile to hold onto Nieto a bit longer. I guess they preferred Smith - I guess that will happen when you watch a guy hit .200 at AAA. FWIW, Neito is hitting .165 in AAA right now. And technically Carroll did make an appearance for the Sox this year.

Avila leaves game, placed on DL. Narvaez called up
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 6, 2016 -> 08:39 AM) Saladino is the third catcher; I wonder if he can really catch or if that's just pure emergency. Said he caught most of his childhood. I doubt he'd be good but could do it well enough.

Who is next man up even? The guy they just acquired from the Astros?

Who will represent the Sox at the ASG?
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 12:35 PM) Rosenthal made an ASG roster and Q was his snub. I wouldn't be surprised to see Quintana added after injury/people dropping out because of timing. I have a hard time believing both the manager and players will leave Q out.

Countdown to the Trade Deadline..
Personally, I'd love to see the Sox add a legit bat (a Braun or Cargo type), but the one's out there aren't going to be cheap. It may make more sense to get a complementary piece for the OF. A LH bat would be preferred. A guy like Peralta does make a fair amount of sense to platoon with Jackson when he returns, and let Morneau have DH. An upgrade at catcher certainly wouldn't hurt, but I just don't see it happening. I do see the Sox adding a couple relievers in the next 30 days, perhaps one of the high leverage variety. Ziegler or Salas would be interesting rentals. What do you guys think?

Countdown to the Trade Deadline..
Instead of threads clamoring that the Sox should sell or rebuild, how about we talk about possible targets to bolster this club for the 2nd half. The trade deadline is less than a month away, and with the Sox now 3 games over .500 and only 2 GB in the Wild Card - let's be real, the Sox aren't selling barring an extremely rough couple weeks. Here are some guys that could be targets (some discussed at length here, others not). I will add to this list as other names are mentioned / become available. Bats Outfielders: Jay Bruce - $12.5M in 2016; $13M team option for 2017 w/ $1M buyout Ryan Braun - $20M per in 2016-18; $19M in 2019, $17M in 2020, $15M mutual option w/ $4M buyout in 2021 Carlos Gonzalez - $17M in 2016; $20M in 2017 Charlie Blackmon - $3.5M in 2016; arb eligible 2017-18 Alejando De Aza - $5.75M in 2016 Nick Markakis - $11M per in 2016-18 David Peralta - $530k in 2016; pre-arb in 2017; arb eligible 2018-2020 Catchers: Jonathon Lucroy - $4M in 2016; $5.25M team option for 2017 Derek Norris - $2.925M in 2016; arb eligible in 2017-18 Aj Pierzynksi - $3M in 2016 Wellington Castillo - $3.7M in 2016; arb eligible in 2017 Gary Sanchez - Pre-arb Utility / DH: Logan Morrison - $4.2M in 2016 Eduardo Nunez - $1.475M in 2016; arb eligible in 2017 Danny Valencia - $3.15M in 2016; final arb year in 2017 Steve Pearce - $4.75M in 2016 Relievers Arodys Vizcaino - $900k in 2016; arb eligible through 2019 Fernando Abad - $1.25M in 2016 Jeremy Jeffress - $520k in 2016; arb eligible through 2019 Huston Street - $8M in 2016; $9M in 2017; $10M in 2018 w/ $1M buyout Fernando Salas - $2.4M in 2016 Ryan Madson - $6.66M in 2016; $7.6M in 2017-18 Brad Ziegler - $5.5M in 2016 Tyler Clippard - $6.1M per in 2016-17 Neftali Feliz - $3.9M in 2016 Jake McGee - $4.8M in 2016; arb eligible in 2017 Starters Less likely here, but... Jeremy Hellickson - $7M in 2016 Jake Odorizzi - $520k in 2016; arb eligible 2017-2019 Ervin Santana - $13.5M in 2016; $13.5M 2017-2018; $14M team option w/ $1M buyout for 2019

Rick Hahn
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 09:31 AM) Thank you. Robertson should definitely be added to the veterans group. Jones to the core. If the Sox wanted to trade him, they'd cash in. Duke and Jennings are also worth their contracts and wouldn't be free in a trade.

Tim Anderson
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 4, 2016 -> 10:28 PM) Jackson also most likely won't be there next year so getting a controllable guy like Peralta is something Hahn has to take into consideration. Just depends on if he can play CF good enough to stick there since I have no idea. If he can he helps out this year and next in many different ways. 1. Adds LH pop to the lineup this year and beyond when we lose Jackson and Morneau. 2. Allows Eaton and Melky to stay in their ideal positions. 3. Helps the bench by adding Jackson to it as a PH , PR, defensive replacement and platoon partner against left handers 4. Should cost less to obtain thus perserving more minor league depth than Reddick, Beltran, Bruce, Braun , Gardner and Myers I am down w David Peralta but he's going to be much more expensive than you seem the think.

Let's Rebuild the Sox
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 2, 2016 -> 06:10 PM) As much as I wanted to trade Quintana to Boston for JBJ in the offseason there's no way that Boston takes that deal. I think that ship has sailed I'd be disappointed w that trade.

07/03 GDT Sox at Astros
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 3, 2016 -> 10:59 AM) Rather see Saladino at 3rd and Frazier DHing. Improves D and doesn't hurt O. Also risk, although slight, of losing DH spot. Frazier is good at 3B.

Let's Rebuild the Sox
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 2, 2016 -> 10:14 AM) I've spent the past few days rebuilding them in my head and on MLB the Show. I traded everyone expect Rodon, Eaton, Anderson. You can only do three player deals in this game so obviously I'd want more for Sale but getting a young impact bat and 2 of their top pitching prospects is a good start. Obviously this team would take its lumps but the future would be very bright. Sale, Jones to LAD for Joc Pederson, Jose De Leon and Grant Holmes Quintana, Robertson to BOS for O; Jackie Bradley Jr, 2B Yoan Moncada and OF Andrew Benintendi Abreu to STL P Alex Reyes, P Luke Weaver and C Carson Kelly Frazier to NYM 1B Dominic Smith and P Marcos Molina Melky Cabrera to TEX for SS/3B Josh Morgan and P Ariel Jurado Didn't trade Lawrie. Kept him because he's still young and playing well for us. Just want to see how everyone on here would do there's (I realize it's not actually happening but I'm doing this for curiosity and entertainment). Package for Sale is way too light.

Tim Anderson
QUOTE (beautox @ Jun 30, 2016 -> 10:14 PM) If Anderson keeps it up I would love to see the Sox lock him up sometime before the start of '18. They have control of him for a long time. No need to lock him up yet.

2016 Minor League Catch-All thread
Sox acquired Brady Shoemaker the other day. A familiar name. I used to be a fan of his early in his minor league career. Between him and Campana, Sox adding minor league OFs.

White Sox winner!
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 1, 2016 -> 10:22 AM) Winning three series in a row is nice, but a nice 7-8 game winning streak would actually make things interesting again. Last year a 7 game winning streak forced the front office to stand pat at the deadline-- which of course was immediately followed by a disastrous 2nd half. A very poor call by the Hahn/KW duo. This year it seems like Hahn/KW are in desperate mode-- so another 7 to 8 game winning streak will likely cause the front office to add a bat. They're probably going to add a bat either way, unless the Sox go 6+ games under .500 the next few weeks.
