  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 01:54 PM) I wouldn't rely on May taking over in center to start 2017. I'm not convinced at this point. Engel in the same boat. It's possible one is ready by then, but I'd go under 50/50 for that to be the case. Anderson and Fulmer have risk too, as any prospect does, but I think there chances are good enough to consider them a Plan A for now. I wouldn't say that for May. You could target a guy like Reddick and switch Eaton back over to center and carry May as a 4th OFer which would give the team pretty nice depth and good speed off the bench.
  2. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 12:06 PM) While that is true, the Sox have traded away most of their halfway decent minor leaguers (Semien, Trayce, Phegley) and have far less depth than what they had a year or two ago. They can't draw from that well forever. They had to swing a three-team deal to land Frazier, since the Reds were unimpressed with the Sox's prospects. Also, the SS, 2Cs, and SP are one-year rentals, which means that the Sox will have the same problem next year. Rollins and Avila are marginal ML starters at this point in their careers, and I'll be very happy if we get half a season of productivity from Latos. So, yeah, the Sox are able to fill all of these holes using their current strategy. The problem is that they're forced to take a lot of veterans off of the scrap heap. You will have Anderson step in at SS next year. Fulmer will grab one rotation spot. May will take over for AJax. The only real question is how the team addresses the catcher position and DH. Cervelli is a nice option behind the plate, I bet he'll be a target. Edwin Encarnion at DH? Sounds like a disgusting middle of the order. Maybe Brandon Moss for much cheaper? They'll have options next year. I think it'll be interesting what they decide to do with that last rotation spot personally. Do they just hand it over to Johnson? A potential lineup of something like this next year is very enticing: RF Eaton C Cervelli 1B Abreu 3B Frazier LF Cabrera 2B Lawrie DH Moss SS Anderson CF May SP Sale SP Quintana SP Fulmer SP Rodon SP Johnson That's pretty nasty.
  3. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 09:21 AM) It'd be great to see Coats get a shot. Although, I'd be nervous to move Melky to full time DH with how he's currently performing. I just don't want to mess with his head/routine. Agreed, he's playing a solid LF too right now, no need to throw Coats out there. That said, Coats can definitely take ABs at DH. Giving them to Avi is just continuing to be a waste.
  4. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 11:57 AM) I'm a bit concerned about the overall lack of Ks from our pitching, but so far so good. If the fielding was still awful, I would be, but the defense has been great so it's less important for the time being. Sale needs to start striking out more batters though.
  5. This series will be a really good test of the Sox mettle. The Blue Jays rank well in all 3 phases of the game: 9th in hitting, 12th in pitching, and 9th in fielding. Sox pitching was a buzzsaw for the hot Rangers bats, hope we can keep it that way this week. The Jays have a lot of RHH power, so this isn't the greatest matchup for the Sox. Hopefully they can get one tonight and 1-2 of the next 3.
  6. This is obviously going to be a sweep of the Sox. That's the mantra we've been going with for these series, right? Seems to be working pretty well.

    Ryan Braun

QUOTE (onedude @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 11:10 PM) Hoping Colorado becomes terrible. Cargo is my preferable OF The LHH is nice but his splits are just awful. Atleast Braun his both righties and lefties well.

    Ryan Braun

Started thinking about some additions the Sox could make in the coming months and took a look at the standings...anyone else think the Brewers would be motivated to move Braun? Sure, the contract couple with his age makes him a little less attractive, but the contract could also reduce the package needed to grab him. A right handed bat isn't exactly what we need right now, but you can always shuffle the order to break up the RHH. He's on track to have another big year and he would look great in the middle of the order with Abreu and Frazier for the next couple years. Add the fact that they have the LaRoche money (and Danks after this season) to dampen the blow of his contract and he starts to look like a very interesting option.
  9. Where's the attendance pitchfork mob today? Oh, that would go against their narrative, that's right.
  10. I think Benetti is pretty funny FWIW. Some serious dad jokes and low profile puns today.
  11. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 03:08 PM) I am entitled to my baseless fears as much as the rest of you naysayers are wrong about Avi ...
  12. It would be interesting to see some of these hitters spray charts. Saladino seems to be positioned wrong a lot today.
  13. Beautiful swing there by Jackson. Do that every time.
  14. Might not be a bad idea to yank Latos after 5 today. Lot of hard contact so far, missing his spots.
  15. QUOTE (He Gawn @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 02:05 PM) I don't care what the stats this year say. I'll take Navarro or Avila every time over another year of Tim freaking Flowers #TimFlowers
  16. Weird no one is talking about attendance today...
  17. QUOTE (lsufan52224 @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 01:25 PM) Eaton needs to get it going again He was 3-9 this series heading into today
  18. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 23, 2016 -> 08:10 PM) I agree with, he's definitely overrated around here IMO. Having said that, he still might be a better option than Avi. It's not a matter of being overrated, people want to see them try something else. Coats may not be the answer, but he's never had an OPS under .747 in the minors and he plays above average defense. That allows for a lot more flexibility with this team. If you want to slot Melky into DH, you can. If yo want to DH Coats, you can. Avi had great numbers in the minors that ultimately meant nothing. What has he earned at the major league level to continue warranting ABs? Throw s*** at the wall and see if it sticks at this point.

    4/23 Games

    Fulmer dealing so far: 3.2 IP, 3 H, 0 BB, 5 K
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 23, 2016 -> 06:54 PM) I just think it is a crappy way to watch baseball. Everyone is going to struggle. I don't know why you wouldn't look at the positives. If someone told you 18 games into the season Abreu and Frazier combined would be under .200, as would 3 other regulars, there is probably no way you anyone would possibly think they could be 12-6. They have been able to overcome it and win games. I am one person who is beyond thrilled because I know there is no way Abreu suddenly will never hit again or Frazier is a .200 hitter. I know Austin Jackson isn't a .160 hitter and Navarro is better than .100. I even know Avi isn't a .130 hitter. Avi if this keeps up will be replaced. Adam LaRoche was penciled in to be the DH against RHP. Problem with your argument is that all those guys have a track record of productivity. Avi does not have that luxury.
  21. Looking like he will be headed to the DL. Is this the time to make 2 moves? Bring up Smith and Coats/Ishikawa?
  22. Just rewatched that Lawrie snag on the Moreland drive. Holy hell I have no idea how he grabbed that.
  23. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 23, 2016 -> 04:11 PM) Rollins has to do everything to knock that down and he didn't. I'm tired of his defense and lack of range He's been really bad
