A lot of the better minor league pitchers are hurt or recovering from TJS so I wouldn't expect much from that end. As far as trades? Maybe? But with the labor situation again, I wouldn't count on much.

Celebrated our 37th wedding anniversary tonight, came home to check the box score. The Yankees can sure balloon a pitchers ERA can't they? No question they are the best team in the A.L. and when they get Fried back the starting pitching will be even better. Maybe they can sneak out a win tomorrow. 10 straight losses at Yankee Stadium now.

I'm waiting on an MRI because I may have blown out a shoulder a few weeks ago. In the meantime I've checked with my doctor on different scenarios. He told me an impingement, if I understand him correctly, is something that irritates the nerves or muscle, usually something like a bone spur or chip that rubs up against it. Surgery is usually the way to heal it taking away the source of the irritation.

One factoid today: June 17, 2023 – It was quite a first game for Zach Remillard. The long-time minor-league player made his big-league debut in a big way in the Sox 4-3 11 inning win in Seattle. Remillard reached base four times, going 3 for 3 with a walk. He also drove in the tying run in the ninth inning and what turned out to be the winning run in the 11th. He became the first player in the modern era (since 1901) to have a game tying and game winning hit in the ninth inning or later in his debut game. His four times getting on base in his first game tied the team record first set by Johnny Callison in 1958.

There are some decent pitching options who could be available but I'm still wondering how the labor situation and the probable loss of games/income next year may impact what JR allows Getz to do.

JR publicly said one time that he didn't believe in paying for potential. When Mark Gonzales covered the Sox for the Tribune he had a story that said the Sox spent the least amount of money in MLB on the minor league system for a period lasting five years.

The Padres owner also publicly ripped him for his performance.

Two factoids today: June 16, 1997 - After numerous charity and exhibition games, the Sox and Cubs played for real for the first time in the regular season when they met at the new Comiskey Park. Since then, the two teams have played each other every season multiple times. June 16, 2023 – The White Sox struck out 16 times in a 3-2 loss in Seattle against the Mariners. This came on the heels of striking out 16 times the night before in a 5-4 loss to the Dodgers in Los Angeles. That tied the club mark first set in 2018 while the franchise was rebuilding. Another oddity was the Sox hit six home runs in the two games but because they couldn’t get runners on-base, every single home run was a solo shot!

SIX factoids today: June 15, 1950 – It was only the beginning for him. Sox pitcher Billy Pierce threw a one-hitter, the first of the four he had in his career. Pierce shut down the Yankees at Comiskey Park winning 5-0. The only Yankee hit that afternoon, came off the bat of infielder Billy Johnson who singled to right in the fifth inning. Pierce would strike out seven for the afternoon. Two of the five Sox runs were unearned because of an error by Johnson. June 15, 1958 - Sox pitchers Jim Wilson and Dick Donovan both fired complete game shutouts in beating the Orioles in a double header at Baltimore. The Sox won 3-0 and 4-0. Later that day the Sox acquired pitcher Bob Shaw as part of a four-player deal with Detroit. Shaw would come up big for the Sox during the 1959 pennant winning season going 18-6 with a 2.69 ERA. Shaw began that season in the bullpen working with Sox pitching coach Ray Berres. After some refinements he was given a start in Boston where he shut out the Red Sox winning 5-0. After that he became a regular in the starting rotation and would cap off his year by winning a game in the World Series against the Dodgers at the Coliseum 1-0, with relief help, beating Sandy Koufax. June 15, 1975 – It was a move made at the trading deadline that showed great foresight by Sox General Manager Roland Hemond. Hemond shipped pitcher Stan Bahnsen, who never recaptured the magic from 1972 to the A’s for pitcher Dave Hamilton and prospect Chet Lemon. Hamilton would save 25 games including nine in 1977, win 16 more and never have an ERA above 3.61 Lemon would go on to a pair of All-Star Games representing the Sox and would become one of the best center fielders in baseball. Offensively he led the league with 44 doubles in 1979. In his six full years with the Sox Lemon would collect 278 extra base hits and drive in 347 RBI’s. His ability to cover ground, especially in spacious Comiskey Park, was unmatched in the league. June 15, 1979 - With the Sox going nowhere G.M. Roland Hemond began looking towards the future. He traded third baseman Eric Soderholm to the Rangers for two players, one of whom was Chicago native Ed Farmer. Farmer would go on to make the All-Star team the next year, finish with 30 saves and become a top closer. In his three seasons with the club he’d save 54 games with 13 wins. His association with the Sox continued as a broadcaster in 1992 until his death in April 2020. June 15, 1983 - Sox G.M. Roland Hemond swapped second basemen with the Mariners getting Julio “The Juice” Cruz for Tony Bernazard. Cruz energized the bottom half of the order, stole 24 bases, drove in 40 RBI’s and provided stellar defense to help the Sox go on a rampage and win the Western Division by a then record 20 games over second place Kansas City. June 15, 2004 - Sox slugger Carlos Lee established the team record when he got a hit in 28 straight games. It broke the old mark held by Luke Appling and Albert Belle. Lee ripped 45 hits in the streak (his uniform number), with 11 doubles and 22 RBI’s. Oddly though he only hit one home run!

Agree with you to an extent but given the state of the franchise especially the last few years (you could say since 2007) change is going to take time AND at least some continued success by the Sox.

I don't know where you've seen that, just saw Venable quoted as saying he's still two/three weeks away. They certainly don't need to rush him.

When you've seen as many bizarre, incredible, unbelievable things that have happened to this franchise, you expect the unexpected and it's usually not good.

They take four of five from arguably the two best teams in MLB. VERY well done! Now take at least a game in New York and put this two week stretch of playing against top opponents in the rear view mirror.

The Sox are in an excellent position because they have avoided getting swept or having long losing streaks. That's a big deal. Nothing could sink this group quicker than having a stretch of say 10 losses in 12 games and with this schedule that certainly was possible. especially with the pitching staff's shortcomings. They have avoided this and again that's a very big deal. Nothing pessimistic about that at all. They've done pretty well given the schedule circumstances right now, there's no way in hell they were going to win every game in this stretch against who they were playing. That's being realistic.

The White Sox hit 28 home runs during the streak, Thomas had eight, Jose Valentín, Carlos Lee and Ray Durham all had five, Magglio Ordonez had three and Chris Singleton and Greg Norton chipped in with one each. Eighteen of the homers were solo shots, seven came with one runner on, two were three-run shots, and one was a grand slam. The White Sox went 13-4 over the 17-games of the streak, raising their record from 26-20 to 39-24 and extending their A.L. Central lead to five games by streak’s end.
