Great Relevant Article On Luck Involved On Rebuilds
Lip Man 1 replied to Replacement Level Poster's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Well to be fair in early August 2010 as I recall the Sox were in first place. Then it seemed the entire bullpen went on the DL for a time and that ended that rather quickly. Can't blame Ozzie for all the injuries which ruined another Sox season much like 2001, 2004. -
I think none. Starting this off season.

Great Relevant Article On Luck Involved On Rebuilds
Lip Man 1 replied to Replacement Level Poster's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It's still going to come down to can this front office / organization... draft / develop the young talent and can they acquire the right veteran pieces through trades or free agency. Hahn has publicly said the money will be there when the time is right. We'll see. And we'll see if the guys the Sox target want to come here. All pieces / questions in play that we should know the answers to in two more seasons. Not that long to wait I guess. -
Maybe. He appears to be made of glass and can't stay healthy. We'll see.
-
I'm not saying TO cut him, I'm not saying the Sox WILL cut him, the question was asked would I be OK with it if they did and my answer is yes. It wouldn't bother me at all since he's not going to be in their long range plans and as bad as he's been overall (save for a fluke year) the Sox won't get much if anything for him in trade.
-
Yes, no problem with it, since they are rebuilding, Maybe it would give Palka more opportunities. He's probably not much better but until he gets a lot of chances you never know for sure. Avi has had plenty of chances since he was acquired.
-
Maybe you should send an application to JR for the G.M. position! ?
-
Avi always seems to be injured, or out of shape (by his own admission) and outside of last year has basically done very little since he was acquired as a "centerpiece" for a new beginning. (So much so the Sox put him on the cover of the pocket schedules that came out I want to say in 2015). It was a good gamble by Hahn but it didn't work out and they can cut bait with him soon enough.
-
Avi has done nothing this year. Don't think he makes any real difference.

Even in a rebuild that was embarrassing today. Fulmer looks awful as a starting pitcher but he is still young, I get it. But more errors, more baserunning blunders (getting picked off second when you are down five runs?) even in a rebuild guys should be expected to do the simple fundamental things. This team is challenged even to do stuff that should have been learned a long time ago. Rebuild or not.

That slogan is well played but you've been beating this drum for a long time now about ownership / front office. (Going so far as to post that according to some friends of yours with connections JR was going to sell within two years--which didn't happen) And it is true, new ownership / front office is badly needed but it's not happening until fate takes its course with JR. That's something he's said clearly time after time. We need to accept the reality of the situation and hope we live long enough to see the rebuild work or new ownership come into play. That's all we can do at this point.

10 Market inefficiencies for White Sox to exploit
Lip Man 1 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Well said in my opinion. You hope it works out in the end but this front office really hasn't earned much benefit of the doubt. This off season will be very interesting to be sure. Was told basically as long as the Sox offer the most money to the top guys they'll sign here. We'll see...as you said there's more to it than that. If there is only a few million dollars a year difference between offers other factors can come into play. Personally I'd be very surprised if the Sox got any of the elite guys on the market next year. I think they can, and will, get some useful pieces particularly in the bullpen which will help but guys like Harper, Machado, Kershaw (if he opt out) won't be coming here unless the Sox offer some ridiculous amount of money which they have rarely, rarely done (Albert Belle comes to mind) -
Or they just want a good baseball manager and not a reality-type TV star with the accompanying drama.
-
Story says 12 months from this injury. He will not be at spring training next year unless he's just there to watch and rehab.
-
Maybe it's because Bummer has already allowed 11 inherited runners to score and shouldn't even be on a big league roster. If so, I applaud his thinking. Just read where the Sox 3-15 start at home is the worst in franchise history.

6th blown game this year where the Sox took a lead in the 7th inning or later.

Hahn on injury: "He was walking in his backyard and took a step and unfortunately felt a pop. It appears nothing could've been done to prevent this, much like the first one, just something that happens. "Doctors are very optimistic that this repair, the second repair, will take, especially with the graft tissue attachment. It's a step that's made to help solidify the strength of the tendon and the repair." "Lousy setback for a great kid who's been working hard," Hahn said. "But as was the case with the first repair, the expectation is there's to be no long-term effect on his baseball career. "We expect him to have no restrictions in the future. Nothing the kid did wrong, no issue with anything along the path of his rehabilitation. Unfortunately this apparently happens in a relatively small percentage of Achilles repairs. Despite his hard work, Jake suffered this reinjury." We'll see I guess.

It came out over time that Ozzie wanted to leave long before he was eventually allowed to. Remember the series at home against Detroit that August? The Sox still with a shot, basically their last chance. What does Ozzie do? Before the first game of that series he tells the press how unhappy he is and how he can't come back next year (even though he had a contract) without a raise AND an extension. I couldn't believe the gall especially choosing the time that he did. Agree with the rebuild or not but the Sox front office isn't "quitting on the team"...they are following a plan put in place. I welcome the fact that they finally picked a lane and stayed with it. For to many years this "contending while rebuilding" philosophy was total BS because ownership was never going to shell out the gigantic amount of money needed to fill all the holes in the organization player-wise. Now it may not work, that is certainly a possibility because the same people that drove the franchise into a ditch are being asked to fix it. I'm not comfortable with that and this front office really hasn't earned the benefit of the doubt I certainly understand those feelings...but in fact there was no other option. Ownership wasn't changing and never will until JR leaves the scene as eventually all men do, the front office won't be changing because of JR's loyalty regardless of how bad they screw up. That's reality unfortunately. This was the best plan they could do under the circumstances. All we as fans can do is hope for the best, hope it works out and if it does, hope that we are still alive to see it. Or hope we are still around to see new ownership come in and perhaps radically change the dynamic. Other than that you can root for another team I guess or like me pull out the tapes and DVD's from better days to help you through. (My library has games from as far back as 1981 with the Sox)

Agreed.
-
They very well may lose 100 this season.
-
Can you explain where you heard about the "knee issues?" That's something I'm not familiar with. If so that's why there is a DH.
-
Hahn himself was quoted as saying the Sox top six or seven guys could play with anyone. The issue was guys eight through 30.

Saw a story today where the Rangers are definitely interested.

Twins @ White Sox 6th May 2018 Game Thread
Lip Man 1 replied to Bazox's topic in 2018 Season in Review
Tim Anderson has to know to take the out at 1B when he basically just crossed 2nd base getting that ball and is almost humanly impossible to throw backwards on the run. Have no idea what Sanchez was thinking. Agreed with some who have already posted, doesn't make Renteria look good. We'll see if he holds anybody accountable. -
Hawk and Wimpy broadcasting last game together TODAY

One of the better broadcasting duos in Sox broadcasting history.
