  1. To those insisting the Sox need to sign a "real" closer next year I've got two comments about that: Closers cost money, JR isn't spending any given the uncertain labor situation. And... Why get a closer? This team has another 100 loss season written all over it because of a putrid offense.
  2. And the White Sox urinated another game away where they had a lead going into the 7th inning or later. That 17 times this year if your scoring at home friends and neighbors. (It was an incredible 29 times last year) It's also the 27th time this year the Sox held an opponent to three runs or less and lost the game. This team/organization is so completely f'd up. 100th loss Wednesday night!
  3. I'm guessing you are exactly correct.
  4. Must be nice work if you can get it.
  5. I think it was on Foul Territory where Hawk said ,"I didn't quit, I was forced out..." something along those lines.
  6. He is responsible for hiring and firing all broadcasters since Bob Grim retired.
  7. Under normal circumstances I'd agree with you, but if JR is still running the show things certainly aren't "normal."

  9. They'll sign the usual bunch of cast offs, retreads, has-been's and injury prone guys because that's all JR will allow.
  10. It would be nice to see them actually accomplish that and see what would happen. In my mind that would be a terrific way to start.
  11. Did not expect them to win today but they played very well. Like I said before the season if they can win six games and Williams shows he has improved it will be a solid start with Johnson even though it would be yet another losing season for the franchise.
  12. Yep he's laughing all the way to the bank.
  13. Fitting way to end the home season, another pretty good pitching performance wasted. 26th time this year the Sox held an opponent to three runs or less yet still lost the game. 0-11 RISP; 2 more errors...it's called fundamentals. 100 losses almost guaranteed now.
  14. We'll see if we even have a full season in 2027.
  15. Get ready to call in Sgt. Friday because they aren't signing anybody worth a damn.
  16. And it helps a lot that those franchises have been winning games. As a broadcaster myself I can tell you there is nothing more difficult then trying to keep fans interested in a bad team/program as well as keeping yourself enthused and willing to put the work in over the course of a year. As Charlie Finley once said of Bill Veeck's White Sox, "You can't ballyhoo a funeral..."
  17. Not even close to reality. This is from my story in November 2022 from one of six sources I spoke with: “Jason Benetti’s deal with the Sox is up, the Sox hold the option for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. He went to Fox to negotiate that deal with them after he was told to do it and then come back to the Sox and they’d work something out. Jason wanted to get the deal done with the Sox first and then go to Fox or ESPN or whoever. Turns out when he came back to the Sox and said that he needs 40 days off so he can do the Fox work he was told, ‘no, that’s not happening.’ So I don’t know what’s going to happen to him or Steve Stone.”

  19. Not forgetting Hawk at all, in fact I wrote the chapter on his year in charge for Dr. Fletcher's next book on the Sox. If you really want to get to the root of JR's change in attitude it was in the off season after they won in 1983 where he was quoted as saying he didn't realize how much winning "costs" because of players wanting raises et al. That's when, if you believe former commissioner Fay Vincent from his book, JR and Bud Selig began to plot the collusion tactics that cost MLB dearly after three arbitrators ruled against them and ordered damages paid to the players (including Fisk) who were impacted.
  20. Nothing will happen until Ishbia takes over in the comment I was mentioning about developing the area around the park and trying to do some upgrades with the stadium. JR is a non-factor in this regard.

  22. Typical White Sox "luck" isn't it?
