  1. It is "stupid" when said sport is supposed to be played in good weather. This isn't football is it? But that's just me I guess. Zero reason for fans to have to sit through 37 degree weather or athletes to try to play under those conditions. Yes weather happens but you can do something to mitigate those circumstances if (in this case) MLB wants to. There are reasonable solutions (i.e. $$$$$$ to teams having to play a lot of early season home games because they have good weather) Again that's just me.
  2. As I have posted in the past those teams that have to play a number of home games in warm weather or domes before May get "compensated" in the form of addition revenue from MLB for the "difficulty" (LOL) of having to take on such a "burden" so that fans don't have to sit through miserable weather to say nothing of the athletes having to try to play in it.
  3. Yet somehow MLB thinks it is a great idea to schedule teams in the Northeast, Midwest and Upper Midwest to play a bunch of home games in March/April.
  4. Feast or famine seems to be the watch word for the offense so far this young season.
  5. From the Sun-Times story: Minor-league roundup Catcher Kyle Teel went 3-for-5 with a homer, double and six RBI in Triple-A Charlotte’s victory Saturday. He added a hit and an RBI on Sunday. Shortstop Colson Montgomery is struggling to start the season. He struck out four times Sunday and has one hit and nine strikeouts in his first 13 at-bats. Montgomery’s proclivity for striking out is alarming. He struck out 164 times in 130 games at Charlotte last season. Catching prospect Edgar Quero had two hits and scored two runs Sunday.
  6. The Sox went 3-for-16 with runners in scoring position in their season-opening series.
  7. Given the roster construction the odds of it being 'weeded out" are pretty small in my opinion. The only two seasons that are of 'recent' vintage' where the Sox were very good at fundamentals were 2005 and 2012. Other than that they have been brutal. Again there's plenty of blame to go around from the manager and coaches who can't teach it or demand players perform it or else there will be consequences to the players themselves who are rushed to the majors with little idea of the details regarding their craft or who could care less about things like throwing to the correct base, not missing the cut off man, run down's, advancing runners into scoring position or getting runners home with less than two out. You know, just the things that cost them two winnable games already...no big deal I guess when you are going to lose 100+ games but it would be nice for Venable to establish that he's not going to take this for very long and guys will suffer consequences. We'll see what happens.
  8. But...but...but "fundamentals" were being talked about and focused on in spring training according to the manager right? I'm sorry nothing is really changing on that end...for years Sox mangers and coaches couldn't teach it effectively and the "baseball-stupid" players don't seem to want to learn it. Again today they lose the game in part because of an easy play that was booted in the 1st inning and terrible situational hitting. Little things add up.
  9. Nothing wrong with it, skilled carpentry is a valuable trade and pays very well.
  10. Booser keeps pitching like he has this weekend and he's going to start hearing boos awful fast. Maybe he needs to go back to skilled carpentry? 😆
  11. Angels score five runs total in three games...and win two of them. This offense is simply miserable, just really awful. Going to be a long season, although we already knew that was coming. Technically the bullpen hasn't already blown two games because the games were tied when they got on the mound but giving up game winning runs both times in the 8th inning isn't encouraging is it?
  12. You are probably going to see this another 95 times or so.
  13. Another difference between a successful franchise and the White Sox.
  14. You hope the error in the first inning which eventually led to a pair of unearned runs doesn't bite them in the rear end when all is said and done. Fundamentals...yet again.
  15. Story has some details on the Sox stadium contract situation that some may find interesting: https://www.southsidesox.com/2025/3/30/24396153/what-will-be-the-fate-of-the-rate-at-the-gate-chicago-white-sox-attendance-game
  16. I don't know if Cannon would fare any better but what I do know is that the exaggerated twisting follow through which seems to be the "norm" today makes it almost impossible to actually field your position and as soon as the pitcher releases the ball he becomes a fielder. But I guess it's more important to throw 100MPH than 95 and actually be able to play defense. 😆
  17. I fully expect far more offensive performances like today's than Thursday's. Once again, fundamentals lose the game. Allowing a two-out RBI and a two base wild pitch setting it up. Little things add up.
  18. I was told that because I started the first game thread and they won, that I have to start the next one. OK...here you go. Can they make it two straight to start the season?????
  19. I was told by an individual that Hahn got royally pissed off when he started hearing that the Cubs were basically laughing at him for taking Eloy in the first place. They supposedly were telling other baseball people that Eloy had severe limitations.
  20. See my original thread post.

  22. With yesterday's tribute to Bill Melton before the broadcast it reminded me that I saw where former Sox broadcaster Bill Mercer passed away a few days ago at the age of 98. He was a broadcasting staple in Texas for decades including doing the Cowboys and Rangers when they first moved from Washington D.C. but he worked with Harry Caray on Sox broadcasts in the early 1970's. He had a good sense of humor. Had the chance to do a long interview with him in 2010. Bill didn't just do sports, he was on the scene for the JFK assassination in 1963 and was the reporter who told Oswald he was being officially charged with his murder.
  23. According to the Awful Announcing web site, Twins fans yesterday saw the Cleveland-Kansas City broadcast for the first few minutes on their regional network/ options instead of their game and MLB.TV had technical issues all over the place yesterday.
  24. By the way the last story tonight on the national CBS Evening News was about them winning the game and possibly offering hope after last year's disaster.
