Just got back from physical therapy. Glad I missed this again. Welcome to second place. 5-12 in the last 18 games. Tom Petty's song, "Free Fallin'" is going through my mind. Again a starter is only able to go four innings which put a strain on an overworked bullpen. And yet AGAIN another clutch two out RBI hit kills them. Now they face a hot Tigers team back in the race. I'm sorry but these guys look D.O.A. Just somehow scrape together five more wins, call it a winning season and head to the golf course.

Have physical therapy this afternoon on the shoulder then have an appointment to see my surgeon. Will check in later to see how this one turns out. Frankly I'm not getting my hopes up but that's why they play the game...anything is possible.

True, but it's also important to note that going into today the Sox have lost 11 of 16 games. That qualifies as pretty mediocre/crappy too.

This is just my personal opinion, last night was a soul crusher. Just win five more games to become the first team to go from a 100 loss year to a winning one in consecutive seasons. Anything over and above that is gravy in my book. But frankly right now, I don't know if they can even do that as in win five more games. We'll see.

Two factoids today: September 16, 1904 - Smack in the middle of an amazing, 45-inning scoreless streak, Guy “Doc” White painted a masterpiece: a 1-0, one-hitter over the St. Louis Browns. Without play-by-play data it’s hard to know how these games played out over a hundred years ago. But we do know that the one hit White allowed was a Tom Jones triple, so whether in the first or ninth inning, or with none out or two, that hit put the shutout and win in some jeopardy but White and the Sox were able to prevail. September 16, 2007 - Sox slugger Jim Thome joined an exclusive club when he hammered his 500th career home run in the ninth inning of a White Sox 9-7 win over the Angels at U.S. Cellular Field. Thome was playing in his 2,000th career game when he connected off Dustin Moseley for the win. The Sox trailed 7-1 at one point before coming back. It was the first time that the 500th home run for a player was a walk off winner. Jim would hit 134 home runs in a White Sox uniform.

I remember that vividly. It was on my birthday: August 25, 2022 – Over the decades the most incredible, strange, bizarre things seem to happen to the White Sox in Baltimore. Games that are ready to be won, are lost in the most astonishing ways, ways that only seem to happen once in a decade except to the White Sox. Case in point, a night game in Baltimore on this date. The Sox led the Orioles 3-2 with two out, no one on in the last of the ninth inning. Sox closer Liam Hendriks was working on his 20th consecutive save. Baltimore outfielder Kyle Stowers sliced a fly ball that drifted into foul ground in left field. Sox outfielder Adam Engel ran to the area, put his glove up…and dropped the ball. The error gave Stowers a second chance and he promptly hammered a flat curve ball from Hendriks into the seats for the game tying home run. Baltimore would wind up winning the game 4-3 in 11 innings.

By the way what ever happened to that other trade acquisition Brazelbon? 😄 He was supposed to be good as well right?

Experience matters in a race especially in September a lot of these guys haven't gone through it yet.

Fine feel free to tell that to them. Unlike the Sox who are pissing away a division they are actually winning games right now at an important time of the year. Do I think they'll win it? No. Are they eliminated yet? Also no. So in fact they do have a chance and will be playing like it. And tiebreakers don't matter unless you are actually tied.

Very true and assuming they lose tomorrow it's not a given they will kick Detroit's ass. Those guys are now only five out, have won 8 of 11 and will be playing their asses off because they still have a chance.

By the way the guy who got the game winning hit was 9th in the batting order...and yet again for this staff the hit came with two out. We've seen opponents get a LOT of two out RBI hits this season.

Reading the box score it appears those who were concerned about Murphy "starting" were right.

Glad I missed this one. Reminds me of the game in Boston, they were one strike away. This one may cost them a whole lot more. Cleveland does, what Cleveland does, they've been doing it for years. 12th time the Sox took a lead into the 7th inning or later and lost the game. So much for the momentum from Monday. By the way, Detroit won again that's 8 of 11 heading into Chicago.

Which is exactly why the four game set starting Thursday makes them dangerous, especially depending on what they do and what the Sox do the next few days. Six out now to start the day.

Tigers have suddenly gotten hot again. Winners of seven of 10. You talk about an up and down club.

That makes sense but when the lockout starts on December 1, it could impact minor league players as well since if I remember right, they are now also represented by the MLBPA.

That would be SO White Sox to have it come down to the final game of the season and Adams to shut them down with everything on the line.
