  1. It is too cold for TLR to function. Pray for snow squalls. This is really more like the Charlotte lineup with a ML starter. Cease deserves a bonus if he wins w this contingent.
  2. Agree. I think it comes down to what impact does the manager (including coaches) have on a team's success, what impact does the FO have (i.e roster) and what impact do the players have. I would say the players are at least 75% of the success/failure unless a FO has assembled a non-competitive team.
  3. Sox Management signed Leury to a 3 year contract less than 6 months ago. I think that could be a sign their management does think Leury has a place on this team.
  4. Did you say the same thing last year at this point?
  5. Leury is due
  6. Right now all of baseball is average. Only Cincinnati sucks. In one week , just about any team can go from 1st to last with a winning or losing streak. It will probably take 30 games before we start to see some trends.
  7. Hubie Brown is doing NBA color in the playoffs. He is 88. Jerry Reinsdorf is 86 and he hired him. Tony may have a longer shelf life than us fans want. They all must be taking viagra for the brain.
  8. If it was the NBA, he would have only got a fine.
  9. I think at 76 years old, Tony probably isn't one of the best. Just my opinion, there were much better choices. But some of the best managers will not even make the playoffs . How often do last place managers win Manager of the Year? The talent is more important than the manager but the most talented teams also need a good manager to win a World Series. Yankees are a great example. The Sox talent should be enough to get them into the playoffs. After that, talent, a good manager and some luck wins a championship. We will see how Tony does this year since hopefully it is his last.
  10. I would think Lopez is a also an option or may even be rated higher than Cueto. We will see him vs MLB as opposed to MILB
  11. Many teams will most likely see a jump in injuries with limited spring training.
  12. TLR??? I thought that was Charlotte playing in game 2.
  13. Hopefully the cold weather moves out before the weekend. Pitching in low 40's is not good for players who are still getting into game shape especially SP.
  14. Close but not quite. There is a bean counter in the back room who also knows that if you sell 100 bears for $1,100 profit or 200 for $1,200 you increased profit by $100. But you probably have to increase staffing to accommodate for double the sales. So the $100 is somewhat less when you include the extra payroll + expenses.
  15. It is only a matter of time until the owners will be installing pay toilets at the stadiums.
  16. Wait. If he is sent back to the minors to learn 2B so he can come back later in the year , he should be fine w that.
  17. No. Based on IL listing they are about 8th or 9th . Texas, Tampa, Cubs,Tigers , to name a few. Sox may have more starters out though
  18. In fairness ,he really has played 95% of his college/minor league career at 3B. Learning a new position for a young player at the major league level can affect their whole game. Seeing Yoan in front of him and available playing time at 2B, it is too bad the FO didn't give him more opportunities to learn 2B last season. If moving Yoan is not an option for some reason, Burger could go back to Charlotte for a month or two to work at 2B once Yoan returns. Then return him after All Star break. Still as someone posted, a good problem that needs to be resolved.
  19. SCCWS replied to flavum's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Some pitching staff w Horlen, Peters and Tommy John as starters with Wilbur Wood and Hoyt Wilhelm in the pen.
  20. The NCAA College basketball Season and the NFL have both completed their seasons after the worst of the covid outbreak. I have not seen/heard of any media reports of increases in injuries.
  21. "Don’t think this team is nearly as good as they believe and other teams in this weak ass division aren’t nearly as bad. " Again, you came to this conclusion after one game and without KC and Cleveland even playing one game. Your spring training analysis must have been very thorough. Come back and tell us after 2 months how good you think the rest of this division is.
  22. 1. Chicago 2. Minnesota Detroit-Cleveland-KC will fight it out for 5th
