  1. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 6, 2015 -> 01:41 PM) Please, for the love of god, don't make Shuck a starter. It is not making him a starter. It is playing him and Gordon while they are swinging a good bat. That means anyone hitting over .250. They started last night's game w 6 sub .250 hitters.
  2. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 6, 2015 -> 12:19 AM) Or it's just more of an argument that this was never going to be a one-year turnaround. And I still don't think it is. If the Sox end up 81-81, it's a huge win, IMO. You get a draft pick for Samardzija, keep everyone else, and you enter the offseason needing to add 4-6 more wins to be a playoff team. I thought this was a .500 team going in so I am not as upset as some fans. Management has already come out and said they expect to challenge for a playoff spot this year. So I don't see them keeping "everyone else" if they finish at .500 or less. But what happens if this team finishes 4-6 games under .500.. Are you content for 2016 to shoot for .500 and 2017 to challenge???
  3. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 6, 2015 -> 11:58 AM) I do get a good laugh out of how our only solution for the 2 hole after Melky is the one guy who's hitting as bad as he is. I hate to say it, Gordon is probably the right answer Alexei went 2 for 4 in the 2 hole last night. So you are not going to make another change for a week or so until you see if it sparks his bat.
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 06:45 PM) Maybe he's playing dumb, but he should know they haven't reached game 54 yet. I was thinking the other day of the Peavy trade. Boston offered Iglesias and the prospects for Jake. Hahn wanted a ML ready outfielder and not an infielder. So Detroit took the SS and we got Avi. I had seen iglesias play numerous times and I liked him but Avi seemed like a player who could be a star. In hindsight...............................
  5. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 05:52 PM) tex..... i wouldn't want to be greedy but ask for prospects that will help and ones that tex would give up. ss/of - Ryan Cordell - 23, wonder if he can def on ss, why not 3b , pitcher - Jose Leclerc - 21 yr, c- Tomas Telis - 23 yr Tellis would be a definite but the other two are not ML ready or really close.
  6. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 02:59 PM) That return would not even be close to getting Q IMO. The Sox would demand a lot more than that. The Sox have to get ML ready players if they do trade Q. Either players on ML roster and/or excelling at AAA in a position we need. Last winter I was hoping Sox could get Bogaerts and 1 of the young catchers from Boston for Q. But Boston would not do that now with their present situation.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 12:41 PM) There were people here who thought CarGo, Matt Kemp, and Jayson Heyward were good ideas. Sometimes it doesn't work. I really don't know the hate directed LaRoche's way. He's been doing pretty well lately. I am also sure Melky will rebound at least some. Actually LaRoche is having a pretty normal year for him. His average is down about 20+ points but as you indicate he has been slowly raising it. He is a career 20 HR-70 RBI guy and he is not far off that pace, His doubles are way down and his BB are way up.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 10:35 AM) We're always one or two years late. Dunn, Downs, Keppinger, Cabrera, LaRoche, dealing Alexei, Samardzija/selling low on Semien... We may be adding Josh Phegley to that list. In fairness, Semien has had a good bat but a bad glove
  9. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 12:29 AM) FWIW there is plenty Ventura can do to improve this team. First, stack all your decent/good hitters in a row. Eaton, Avi, Beck, Gillaspie, Abreu and maybe sprinke in some LaRoche. Melky Sanchez and Flowers should all see less at bats. I don't care how much you paid a motherf***er, this team needs to be shook up and bad. This is why Ventura should be fired. He has no idea how to make adjustments. If you go that route, Shuck should be in and Eaton or Melky on the bench. Take your pick
  10. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 06:34 PM) You have it backwards. Quintana put a fWAR of 5.3 last season. He's a stud. He has already accumulated 1.2 WAR this season. He's a guy that you don't trade unless you get an absolute haul considering the contract he has. I don't have it backwards. I used WAR which is what Baseball Reference uses. You deferred to fWAR. Q is a good pitcher but he is not a stud. Chris Sale is a stud. His WAR for 2013 and 14 is 6.9 and 6.6. I don't know what his fWAR is
  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 04:26 PM) If we lose Shark & trade Quintana, who the f*** do people think will be in this rotation exactly? We have some #5 types in Danks, Beck, & Erik Johnson, but counting on more than one of those guys next year and you're not serious about competing. Build around Sale, Rodon, & Quintana and find a way to keep Shark if the contract is right. As long as the rotation is strong, we'll never be that far away from competing. I think that would be a very solid rotation. In fact it is the present rotation. But if we end up in September w a .500 team despite that rotation, then what??? Positions like SS and catcher are damn hard to fill via FA. The everyday roster does not have anyone to trade that would fill more than 1 hole while creating another. Do we hope Johnson Kottaras and Davidson solve the offensive/defensive issues?? I love Q and would hate to see him go. But he may be the only tradeable piece Hahn has. If he has a substandard year then that probably eliminates trading him anyway. Maybe Avi can get a return but again that just opens another hole.
  12. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 12:44 PM) I disagree. What's wrong with having 2 aces and a #2? All 3 of which are bargains for next 6 seasons. I'm not trading Q unless I get a ton in return. Nothing wrong. Actually it is a great position to be in. But what happens if we finish last again because of numerous holes on the offensive side. They probably have 1 trade chip in Shark but he is a rental and may bring 1 propect back. You referred to Q's WAR but it was not 5 last year. It was 5 in 13, 3.5 in 14 and is near even this year. I am not a huge WAR fan which is why I think Q still has major value. Now we know he has had some bad breaks but if he doesn't turn this season around, he would not bring a ton. Our offense/defense is bad. Those guys are not going to bring anything back via trades. So if the FA money is limited, then Q may be the only tradeable player that can fill more than 1 offensive shortcoming.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 12:04 PM) There is no reason to trade him right, that is for sure. Just speaking to his value. Though it is an interesting thought when you think of it in the terms that his value will never be higher. If Q is your #3 starter behind Sale and Rodon next year, you have to see what he could bring on the open market. Suppose he could bring back 2 top prosects ( ML or AAA). If Q brought back say a catcher and a 5th starter or a 2B and an oufielder you may need to go that route to fill two holes from a depth position. Now if Rodon or Sale drop off, you cannot consider it. I think you wait till the offseason and see what you get for Shark this summer and what you may see in any call-ups in September. If one of the young pitchers in the ssystem looks like they could work into the rotation next year that is another plus.
  14. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 12:34 AM) no wants Danks...... plain and simple. trading Shark and Q right now, you might as well tear apart the team, the sox do not have replacement players for 2 sp's. I think Q is the key. I agree w LDF that Danks will only bring salary relief. Shark brings a return but he is a short term rental and as such might bring 1 player back in return. I think Q can bring a couple of players back that could hopefully fill some holes. But that opens a rotation spot and if you don't sign shark it means 2 next year. I was hoping the Sox could offer Q to Boston since they needed a lefty starter and always have a bunch of prospects available. But they called up a young lefty who has thrown 2 straight wins so I think they need to find another trade partner.
  15. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 10:23 PM) Wow flowers a triple away from the cycle Full moon
  16. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 08:07 AM) The 2013 team was more Rick Hahn's than it wasn't. It wasn't like he came from another organization to inherit that mess. As Asst. General Manager, he had influence on every single individual comprising the roster that year. He also had an entire offseason beforehand to make changes to the roster, and he didn't, really, other than adding Keppinger. So I'd say he is as much to blame for that horrific '13 season as his predecessor. It seems a little far fetched to me to suggest that from 2002-2012, when Kenny was GM and Hahn was Asst. GM, that somehow Kenny was solely responsible for baseball decisions made to the team during that timeframe, and that subsequent to 2012, it has all just been "The Rick Hahn Show". I think Kenny's periodic interviews suggest rather strongly that he is still very influential on any baseball decisions made. So as far as I can tell, since 2002, the White Sox have essentially been run by the trio of Reinsdorf, Williams & Hahn, with only a change in titles for the latter two a few years ago, while maintaining a consensus view between the three in terms of strategy and decisions made throughout these past 13 years. I think you missed something.I would agree when Kenny was GM and Hahn AGM " it was far fetched that Kenny made all the decisions". But now Hahn is GM and Haber is AGM. So now should we not conclude it is Reisdorf, Williams, Hahn & Haber making the decisions. Maybe Haber wanted Melky...............................
  17. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 05:27 PM) If it's not RV, it's KW or JR or DC or freaking Chris Rongey or something. I made a new logo: Blame Tom Thibodeau.
  18. Maybe KW had more to his message. By saying this team should compete for the playoffs, he could be laying the groundwork for changes. If the team fails, then changes would have to happen. At thst point Hahn can say despite the players not living up to expectations, we are forced to replace the manager. Maybe the FO decided they need to start dropping hints that a change is coming so the RV separation is less of a media circus than the Bulls are facing.
  19. I think the concern will be how much better other teams get and will the Sox match them. We have already added our impact addition in Rodon. So now we have to hope individual players continue to improve. The Sox do not have any other possible impact players coming back from injury. But the Tigers do for example. I am not convinced yet the AL Central is better than AL East. Most of the East teams look pretty even and it shows when they beat up on each other. But Yankees just took 4 out of 6 from Royals and the White Sox just played well against one of best AL teams. So teams are up and down especially as rosters are still being juggled.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ May 10, 2015 -> 08:21 PM) Gordon's play has been welcome, previous performance aside. I was never that enamored with his 2b offense, but my God him playing 3b vs Gillaspie playing 3b is night and day. I will take the horrendous offense just to give some reliability at one position in the infield defense. They already did that at 2nd base.
  21. QUOTE (Jake @ May 31, 2015 -> 04:31 PM) From .400 to .340! So a AAA player has a great April then goes into a 3 week slump and you call him up??? That may be why he is not even hitting his weight in the majors. Maybe he is even playing hurt which would explain the horrible May he has had.
  22. Danks with a complete game shutout and Tyler Flowers with the game winning RBI. ................and the full moon is coming.
  23. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 31, 2015 -> 04:52 PM) Danks is so frustrating. You never know which one you're going to get. You can be sure it won't be Jordan.
  24. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 31, 2015 -> 03:17 PM) I bet money Micah doesn't turn that. Agree, it would be a hell of a throw from Charlotte.
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 31, 2015 -> 01:52 PM) I read something yesterday where they are crying in Boston hoping this new guy they called up is goodbecause it has been since 2007 they have brought up a sarting pitcher that has been good for them. And that includes years with the great Theo in charge. True but there is some history there. They brought up Buchholz and Lester in 2006 and 2007. They traded Anabel Sanchez as part of the Josh Beckett trade and they traded Justin Masterson for VMart. So that is 4 pretty decent pitchers from 06-09 that were homegrown in their minor league system. They now supposedly have another batch of pitchers in AAA but Boston media is always touting stud prospects many of which have fizzled. But they do churn them out or use them as trade chips.
