  1. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 06:28 PM) The effect a manager has on the game is overstated so much in Chicago. The South Side thinks the team isn't a playoff team because of Ventura, the North Side thinks their team is a championship contender based on Maddon. Both assumptions are equally dubious. Or to give an example: John Farrell Manager Toronto 2011 81-81 2012 73-89 Boston 2013 97-65 World Series Champs 2014 71-91 with almost the same lineup to start as he did in 13.
  2. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 05:32 PM) lol what. Beckham was NOT on the bench, as he had already been brought in as a PH (and went 1 for 1). hopefully this was a joke post. It was but actually the offense needs a jolt going into Detroit. Beckham needs to be in th lineup while he is swinging a hot bat. Neither Eaton or Johnson are hitting their weight and they end up back to back the second time around. Add Cabrera to the mix and it looks like Larry Moe and Curley in a row all hitting sub 200. Play Shuck, move Johnson to leadoff and stick Beckham at 3rd or sit Johnson and let Gordie play 2nd. Get Flowers bat back in the lineup. Bunting practice tomorrow at 6:00am
  3. My problem with Robin is he didn't play the percentages. As many have said, Eaton does not know how to bunt and should never have been asked to do so. The percentages say it was a bad decision. But the bigger problem is he had 2 of his best RBI men this year in Flowers and Beckham on the bench. Robin should have gone with the percentages there and hit for Melky and Jose and we would have at least tied the game. Besides Flowers at 1st and BecKham in left would have made for some exciting extra innings
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 02:15 PM) I really don't know why a team trying to get a stadium built would trade it's signed long-term face of the franchise. Longoria isn't going anywhere. Thinking he's available is as proposteurous as the guy in Boston who thought the Red Sox were owed Chris Sale. I do think Longoria would be available for a major package since I think the stadium decision is still a ways off. Tampa Bay has lost Price, Maddon and Zobrist all of whom were not only big names on the field but also in the community. So I don't think Longoria is an untouchable. But I think Rodon would have to be the starting chip.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 12, 2015 -> 08:20 PM) The good news is the Sox aren't the worst team in the division Let's hope that holds after the road trip.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 12, 2015 -> 12:13 PM) Apparently he is good enough where Robin would use him in an emergency or maybe interleague. I know Boston wanted him to play 3B if they signed him. Dick I don't hink that was Boston. At that time Boston had a glut of SS/3B candidates and the Boston media felt Abreu would play 1st in place of Napoli. But several reports even tempered that by saying that was a temporary spot and they felt Abreu could be heir apparent at DH to Ortiz. Their scouts felt Abreu was a poor defensive player which supposedly is why Boston stopped the bidding at $50 mil. I bet those scouts were redfaced after last year.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 10, 2015 -> 08:32 PM) No not a Sixto Rodriguez album. Building on a NESN article, I researched the last four years....so we have a complete picture of all MLB playoff teams since 2001. Only 3 of 118 teams have made the playoffs following an 0-4 start. 2011 Tampa Bay Rays...0-6/1-8 2011 Milwaukee Brewers...0-4/3-4 2012 Atlanta Braves...0-4/5-4 The 2003 Braves started 1-3/1-4, the 2007 Phillies 0-3/1-6, 2014 Orioles 1-3/1-4, 2012 SF Giants 1-3/1-4 and 2013 Pirates 1-3/1-5. Seven teams from 2011-2014 started 1-3 and still made the postseason. Historically speaking, now, the odds would suggest our chances are less than 3%. Exactly 2.54% to be more precise. Your research leaves out some very important pieces of data. How many teams that started 0-4 without pitching their ace failed to make the playoffs. Also, of the teams that started 0-4, what was the home/away makeup of those games. For example, an 0-4 team at home vs an 0-4 team away. A sampling of 4 games is too small to make any conclusion. For example in 2011 when Tampa Bay started 0-6, they also started that season with their best player, Longoria on the 15 day DL.
  8. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 10, 2015 -> 07:13 PM) Fire robin I have seen this same bad baseball over 3 different rosters he is clueless and way way way too relaxed. Club plays lifeless and sloppy game after game. I agree that Robin looks like he is sailing along on a cruise ship. But the dugout shot of Coop laughing his ass off beginning the 9th tells me the pressure this staff is under. If I was Hahn I would fire that lard ass and shake things up.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Apr 10, 2015 -> 01:01 AM) Sometimes I think getting players from losing organizations come to play. I still don't get the Samardzija hype. I still think the minors it littered with poor fundamentals and they never seem to run out of mentally weak players. I can't back that up in anyway but it is a hunch. Are the White Sox a losing organization right now????
  10. Need to get Beckham, Flowers and Sanchez into the game. They had hot bats last night...................................
  11. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 09:50 AM) I have 0 confidence in this game today. A lot of Royal fans are saying the same thing.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 02:43 AM) I want to see the Sox declare war. After watching LaRoche stare down Duffy, then whack a double, I'm convinced he can be our leader. If we get swept by KC, I hope LaRoche freaks out in the clubhouse. So what if it's early. 0-3 will be unacceptable. In this day and age, the clubhouse leader better be bilingual. For several years, Boston had multiple interpretors in the clubhouse because of the diversity of today's players.
  13. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 7, 2015 -> 03:13 PM) The difference is that it wasn't a big or important play. It was a home run in the middle of a boring game they were already winning. A game winning hit in the 9th or a big strikeout in a close game is different. Play the game get excited where it's warranted. None of it matters to me as I'm not playing the game. However I can see why it effects the players the way it does. Does it make it right...no, but they're human and people get ticked off. If Royals thought it was on purpose, they will plunk Eaton tomorrow.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 08:49 PM) Id say theyre about even....lose Shields, Butler and Aoki....replace with Volquez, Morales and Rios. The paramount thing is, the confidence of their young core guys like Gordon, Cain, Perez, Moustakas, Escobar and Hosmer is at an all-time high. Same with Ventura. Shields and Butler werent as good as usual last year, either. At the end of the day, there #1 beat our #3. Q will come to the rescue.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 03:53 PM) If the Sox win 2 of 3 against KC, I'll start believing. If the Sox win 1 of 3 against KC, I will try not to get mad. Somebody remind me I said this if we go 1-2. If the Sox get swept, it will be very annoying and the only reason I might not freak out is because the Royals did reach the World Series. Right now would I take 1-2 if it was offered to me as a certainty? Probably not. I'd want to play it out and see if the Sox can scratch out 2 of 3. That said ... will any of you absolutely freak out if Sox go 0-3? If the Sox go 0-3 I think Ventura will be fired. If the Sox go 3-0 his contract will be extended until 2020............................
  16. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 4, 2015 -> 06:50 AM) Samardzija is 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA vs. KC. So if that's what you're going by, he might be right. However if you are going by his 15 straight scoreless innings on opening day, he may be wrong. However if you are going by his awful ST performance, he may be right. However if you are going by a coin toss for him over Q, you probably found the answer.
  17. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 30, 2015 -> 07:27 PM) Thank god. Don't know why they are starting the season a week later than last year. What's the official word? Trying to avoid snow outs? Seems like first week of April (or March 31st) has been opening day for most of my adult life and now it's the 2nd week of April? Easter
  18. I think 84 or 85 wins which is improvement over last sseason. Starting pitching will be good, bullpen shaky, offense average and defense below average.
  19. QUOTE (Baron @ Mar 30, 2015 -> 01:45 PM) Good question and my answer is yes Boston is supposedly very interested
  20. QUOTE (daggins @ Mar 30, 2015 -> 08:44 AM) Passan bitin' on Jonah Keri with that order. As for the title, I would guess its either the AL Central, AL West, or the NL Central. NL East is probably the worst, even with the improved Mets. I have seen several AL East teams this spring in Florida. That division looks pretty loaded. Boston must have the best lineup in all of baseball. Luckily their pitching has some questions in the 4 and 5 spots.
  21. QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 29, 2015 -> 08:45 AM) wow, that is close. Sanchez is having a real nice, quiet spring. this is a choice that is hard for a coach to make, and i am glad i am not making it. Johnson turns 25 this year if that affects management thinking.
  22. Let's face it. If you are going to a home game, one consideration is would that be a day Sale is on the mound. How often do White Sox fans actually choose to go to a game based on that??? Well a problem is coming. When Rodon joins the rotation this season, fans are going to be forced to choose on some occasions. Will some fans start picking Rodon games over "Sale days". What a nice dilemna!!!!
  23. QUOTE (Señor Ding-Dong @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 04:24 PM) It was bound to happen sooner or later, but damn if it ain't a little disappointing. Really enjoyed watching him this spring. Zero is a very low number. If Melky breaks his leg tonight, there is some chance hawkins makes the opening day roster.
  24. I read all these positive offensive things and I figured we won. I see why no one mentioned our pitching or lack ther of today. It seems like we are giving up a lot of homeruns lately.
  25. According to Farmer's Almanac, April 6th game will probably be postponed due to sleet/rain. Count on the 7th as opening day
