Chris Beck is a very underrated prospect around here....I don't think he'll be a front line starter, but I think he can be a good #4 who can keep his ERA around 4 and eat innings. Don't get too caught up in the K #'s....plenty of sinker ballers have had successful cseasons with a K/9 in the 5's.

Time to find a reason to put Danks on the DL. The phantom "shoulder fatigue" could work. Wouldn't mind seeing Beck get his feet wet in the majors for a a decent stretch.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 10:25 AM) You say this (and everything behind it)... ...and then follow it with this. Do you understand what I'm getting at? I probably should have quoted but I was responding to the couple people who made it seem as if we were giving up too much. I completely agree that trading for Hamels would be right move for our franchise, but that's only because I don't believe we are poised to win at the moment and 1 pitcher isn't going to change that. But from a pure value/talent standpoint I don't think the package in the OP would get us Hamels and isn't even close to too much.
-
Lol at our B and C level prospects being too much for a top ten pitcher in baseball with a world series ring and mvp who is controlled for 4 more years at fair market value. How is his contact a hindrance if he's pitching great? If he was on the open market he wouldn't get more than 4 years 90 mil? If Philly really is open to trading him (which I don't believe) they would have a lot better offers than what we could possibly come up with. But with all that said we aren't nearly in a place to be even considering a deal like that and I'm pretty positive Hahn isn't.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 06:20 PM) I believe that there is value in not having a rotation in shambles. Danks helps stabilize what could very easily be a disaster of a rotation with no obvious candidates to step up. What disaster? We lose 90 games instead of 86 and subsequently get a higher pick? Sounds downright horrible.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 03:27 PM) Danks can certainly be a factor in the Sox next run for the World Series. He is not an average pitcher, he is an average mid-rotation pitcher, something that is not that easy to replace or the Sox would have three more of them. His contract is reasonable for his performance and it is unlikely that the Sox would get any discount by bringing someone in put up similar production. Couple that with the way that Danks has continued to improve the further he has gotten from surgery, he could end up being an extremely solid #3 starter in a playoff rotation. The money is not holding the Sox back from anything and the Sox have a terrible track record of acquiring established players in free agency. Danks is what he is at this point....You can most likely rely on him for about 185 innings of 3.8-4.3 ERA ball. Don't get me wrong, there's no shame in that kind of performance, but he is by no means a good value at $14M or hard to replace at all. We should and will be able to replace Danks at at least 1/2 the price. Not to mention that if a lefty has to go when Rodon arrives in Chicago Danks is without question the odd man out.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 02:04 PM) I truly believe that if we move Danks, we're all going to be disappointed with the return. Unless moving his contract will truly open up the door to a big acquisition, I think he's more valuable to us as a relatively stable back-end rotation piece (in a rotation that includes Scott Carroll) than he is to any other team as a rotation plug. Trades are fun, but if I'm being honest with myself, I think we should just keep him. If you're being honest with yourself John Danks is not going to be a factor in whether we can compete for a world series again relatively soon. The shoulder injury turned him into a pretty average pitcher that is replaceable at a much lower cost. If someone is willing to take the contract let them as far as I'm concerned. Free up the money and you never know what could happen, it's not like this franchise has shied away from acquiring high cost players in the past. Who cares who our 4th starter is for the rest of the year when we aren't making the playoffs anyway?
-
I am also guilty of underrating Q. I was calling him "only" a #3 starter in the off-season. I'm now proud to call him a legit #2 starter with a bright future ahead of him.
-
Anybody want to take a guess on the figure we'd have to chip in to get a couple of decent prospects back? I was thinking something like $8M. 2 for the rest of this year and 3 for the 2 remaining years. Turns him into an $11 million dollar pitcher which seems to be around the market with guys like Jiminez, Arroyo, and Feldman. If we could get 1 of Clarkin or Judge for Danks I'd be extremely happy.

Baseball America White Sox Mid Season Top 10
TheFutureIsNear replied to GGajewski18's topic in FutureSox Board
Rodon would obviously be #1, but would Spencer Adams also crack the top 10? I would say he could definitely fit somewhere between 7-10 -
Idk doesn't seem like much actually. Street has been incredible and has a pretty reasonable option next year. I don't get the hype with Lindsey. Sure, he has pretty good pop for a 2B, but his track record doesn't exactly project to him maintaining a very good avg or obp in the majors. I'm surprised another wasn't willing to give up a better prospect honestly.

Christian Walker is also an interesting name from the Orioles organization. Not the "toolsy" type with a huge ceiling, but he's done nothing but hit since his days of winning 2 CWS at South Carolina. .301/.367/.516 with 20 HR's in AA so far this year and just got called up to AAA.

Time to sell high on Gillaspie?
TheFutureIsNear replied to TheFutureIsNear's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 05:51 PM) The topic sucks anyway. Davidson is a minor leaguer who took a huge step back and still Ks for the world, and we want to trade Gillaspie? No. No we don't. Let's hope Davidson builds enough value to get us a nice RHSP prospect or something, now that would be great for us. But who cares about this year? Do you really think Conor Gillaspie is ever going to be a starting 3B on a team with World Series aspirations? Personally I don't. If you get value for him you absolutely trade him. Whether or not we get value is arguable, but its certainly possible given the lack of corner infielders on the market. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 17, 2014 -> 09:15 AM) If his odds were 10 to 1, I doubt a guy making no money gets waived. I understand the whole no risk, high reward thing, but why don't we preface it by saying, this guy obviously sucks so bad right now and is a longshot to be anything, or else he wouldn't be available for nothing. He throws hard, great. Maybe they can get something out of him, but there is a reason he was waived. Every team needs pitchers. Just think about how bad a White Sox minor league pitcher who throws 98 has to be to get waived. Bobby Jenks, Matt Thornton, Gavin Floyd, John Danks....all thought to be expendable and a lost cause by their former teams before they got here. Is this guy going to work out? Who knows, there's a good chance not. I don't see how this is a move anybody would complain about.
-
Can never have enough guys that throw 98...he's still relatively new to pitching so who knows what can happen. It's worth a shot with the track record this organization has with these types of arms.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 15, 2014 -> 07:56 PM) SS is a premium position and Alexei is among the best in the league, is only 32 years old and is under control for two ore sesons at a reasonable salary. The Sox have no one in the organization pushing him, so they have no reason to trade him unless they get an offer they can't refuse. If some contender wants a top level SS like Alexei to put them over this season plus be under team control the next two seasons, they better be willing to cough up more than a flawed prospect like Garcia, an outfielder with poor defense who is big and strong but has never hit for much power and who has great speed but already seems to have lost a half step and is probably going to lose more speed as he gets heavier and older. He may have been rated as a top 50 prospect by somebody, and he may turn out to be a productive player yet, but for Alexei the Sox better get a top 50 prospect that is more of a complete player and has proven more than Garcia has to this point. Plus a few more good prospects. All I got out of your post is that you really dislike Avisail Garcia....I have a feeling that you're going to be disappointed if you're expecting a more talented prospect than Garcia in return for Alexei.

Yeah catcher is the obvious top need. Personally I'm not as worried about SP as others. I don't really care what hand they throw with, Sale, Quintana, and Rodon should make up a very good 1,2,3 punch for a long time. Filling the 4,5, and bullpen shouldn't be too difficult and shouldn't really be a top priority in my opinion. Of course I fully expect a power pitcher in A ball and a "toolsy" OF who can't quite put it together coming back to us in any trade.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 14, 2014 -> 09:03 PM) Um no, you don't trade Conor unless you're bowled over by an offer. I don't care what his BABIP is the guy mashes RHP and plays a cromulent 3B, those guys don't exactly grow on trees. Plus, it looks like Davidson might be the perfect right handed side of a 3B platoon. This is a deal that might make sense to make this time next year. If Davidson is all that, and Conor continues to hit and increases his value, then you can trade Conor. No rush, not when he's still pre-arb. His BABIP actually goes all the way up .407 if we are just talking against righties. In other words....his success right now is unsustainable. I don't think Conor is a bad player by any means, I see him as a .280/.340/.440 guy who can only hit 10 home runs a year. If that was my 2B I'd be ecstatic, but if he's going to be just "cromulent" at the corner IF positions he needs to produce more at the plate. He's the kind of guy that is fine for now, but you would hope to upgrade from. But you are right, we shouldn't just give him away to any offer or anything like that, but let's just say hypothetically that a team like Toronto offers their 12th and 18 best prospects (whoever they may be) for Conor. Do you take that deal or are you still waiting? -
Just curious to see what everybody's opinion is on this since mlbtraderumors listed Conor in their 3B trade market post today. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/07/trad...-basemen-3.html Curious to see what the boards willingness to trade him is. Personally, I see a 3B with little pop and a .370 BAIP that screams trade him while his value is highest. His contract should also help and not be a deterrent for any team. However, that contract is also a big reason for us not to get rid of him....and Davidson sucking certainly doesn't help the idea of trading him. So would you trade him? And what do you think we could get?

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 12:50 AM) Prediction: Rodon Anderson M. Johnson Hawkins Montas Davidson Danish Ravelo Michelzewski Adams Not bad Are you not counting Semien and Erik Johnson as prospects or did they just not crack your top 10?
-
I wouldn't say Danks' contract is necessarily bad...not great, but "anchor" is an overstatement if you ask me. If you look at the market for SP's from this past off-season I would say Danks fits right in with the Santana/Nolasco/Garza/Jimenez group that averaged $12M per. So maybe the $14M is slightly high for Danks, but I don't think it would be a huge deterrent in a trade. I mean a worst case scenario we could throw in a total of 5 or 6 Mil spread over 3 years if it made the other team feel better in order to get a better haul. JR Murphy and a A pitcher with a big arm like De Paula seems like it would be a reasonable return.

Micah Johnson, Frank Montas on Futures Game rosters

Sox Draft Carlos Rodon> Draft Day Discussion Thread
TheFutureIsNear replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
Don't feel like going back through all the pages, but is Spencer Adams considered signable? That kid looks like he could be something special in 2-3 years. If we can get him and Rodon signed and into the system quick we could really have something going with our pitching staff. -
Ehh we should probably make sure these guys can actually play before we call it a "glutten". I don't like any of their bats enough for them to stick at either SS or 3B honestly. At least not on a team with world series aspirations. I think both Semien and Johnson will both be at least serviceable MLB 2b, but the rest are depth/UTL guys.
