How on earth are they getting dominated by Plutko and his 92 mph fastball? -

If we are going to carry Collins on the roster I say just DH McCann whenever either Encarnacion or Abreu rest. Collins should be good enough as an emergency catcher. -
Lol calm damn there sparky. It's not an insult, it doesn't make the season that did happen any less amazing...but yes the 05 team was a fluke, as in highly likely to be repeated. A lot of things came together that year that don't usually happen to a team all in 1 season, especially in the pitching staff. Fluke doesn't have to mean bad, you're taking the Dilfer reference too literal (or it was just a bad reference). That Ravens team was also incredible, regardless who their QB was.

Lets's hope the bats are hot today. -
Did and will always love the '05 team...but they are pretty much the "Trent Dilfer has a ring" of the MLB. It was a lucky outlier of a season. It would be nearly impossible to replicate the success of that team. And as someone else said, just say no to both Ricky and Ozzie.

MLB COVID-19 outbreaks: None of as Sept 18
TheFutureIsNear replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I’m not in the overly dramatic crowd...at the end of the day these are highly paid professionals that chose to assume the known risk. BUT yeah...this probably needs to be just stopped at this point. There was no planning for any of this. MLB pretty much stuck their heads in the sand and pretended that it wasn’t obvious this would happen. 3rd time won’t be the charm, just wrap up 2020 and call it a lost cause. Teams losing good players from their lineups on a weekly basis makes this already asterisk season even less meaningful. And hopefully the NFL is watching this and getting a grip on reality. Figure out a bubble situation or the season ain’t happening -

Florida is 1 of the most infected places on earth and the NBA and MLS bubbles are there and doing just fine. It doesn’t matter where the bubble is, as long as it’s a bubble. LA, Chicago and NY all have 2 major league stadiums and fit the geographic requirements. Fitting the games in logistically with the 60 game schedule starting when it did probably would have been really difficult, but establishing 3 bubbles cities and starting the season in early June most likely would have been very easily accomplished. Of course that also would have required the owners and players to have genuine, reasonable and intelligent conversations from the beginning.... which we all know wasn’t going to happen. -

Well clearly we need to make a trade if we are serious about contending this year. -

Well thankfully the offense is great, but this could get ugly. No bummer or Marshall and probably no/very little Cischeck available out of the pen. Probably going to see multiple Detweiler innings -

Delmonico probably isn’t a major league player...hopefully that will sink in sooner rather than later -

Bad D but Lucas has got to 1)locate his fastball and 2)vary his pitches more. They are jumping all over his fastball and it’s not in the right spot most of the time -

Lol wow. Just wow -
Bennetti is good, not great. Certainly nothing to b**** about. Especially whatever character flaws OP is dealing with and trying to project... I do agree the chemistry with him and Stone isn’t the best though. They try to play up the new school vs old school shtick too much and need to drop the banter at times. Then again, we are talking about 3 straight years of pretty horrific baseball to watch in general so it’s possible the pair will be better when the team is actually playing meaningful baseball games in a playoff hunt. Also 10x better than what Hawk was his last 5 or so years

Official predict the season win totals thread
TheFutureIsNear replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
36-24...don’t doubt this team can score 300+ runs in a 60 game season, just a matter of not letting up more than that. Cease, Lopez, G. Gonzalez, Rodon, Colome, Herrera...I can see how well the season goes hinging on those arms. Unless someone else steps up -
I still don’t understand why there’s no talk of adjustment by these owners. You’re telling me these guys worked their way up to being billionaire owners of sports franchises and now all they can do is just sit on their hands and cry poor? They should be trying to sell every inch of empty stadium space for advertising, creating new team products, set up a beer garden/restaurant outside the stadium during games, etc...I feel like nothing has been attempted what so ever so help the situation. Makes no sense to me

Kinda hard to imagine any teams are looking to add any kind of significant salary increases at the moment.
