QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 09:09 AM) While I am not a big James Loney fan, he is better at baseball than Travis Ishikawa. I'd rather have David Murphy than either, but its not very hard to upgrade on Ishikawa. If Travis breaks camp with the club, I anticipate it won't be long until some other LH bat finds their way to the Sox. If the Sox could get Loney for less than $1.5M, it may be worth the minimal risk. I'd shoot for closer to the minimum. Travis Snider is another idea. No great shakes, but a LH option for the bench. I have to imagine the Sox have been in contact with David Murphy. I think what we'll see happen is Avi gets his chance and will be re-evaluated when June comes around. If Avi is struggling in June, the Sox start shopping for a LH OF bat. Until then were stuck with the Avi experiment. My hangups with Loney are based on him only being a 1B and his bat is just not impressive. If the Sox were going to carry a five player bench I would be open to the idea of Loney but they are only carrying four on the bench so versatility from the last spot becomes more important, IMHO. Ishikawa/Sands bring the versatility that Loney cannot provide. I just don't see Loney being a significant enough of an upgrade to push Ishikawa/Sands out of the picture. At this point I would rather stick with what the Sox have and see how they look in June.

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 09:45 PM) Nope. After 3 straight losing seasons and after Avi's 1000 unimpressive career plate appearances, he should play if and only if he is producing. He doesn't get any more development time on the major league club. If he's hitting and can manage the outfield or can be hidden at DH great. If he can only provide value as a platoon bat, great. If he can't do that send him to AAA and see if he can figure it out. If James Loney or anyone else can hit righties better than Avi, then Avi shouldn't be playing. Like it or not it should be obvious the Sox are going to give Avi another chance. Sometimes it's better to give our own hot garbage another chance instead of trying another teams hots garbage. As badly as I wanted to see Avi replaced or traded this winter, I'd still rather see him get another chance over acquiring Loney.

Gotta love Jimmy Rollins. http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article/169...-to-work-deeper

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 05:13 PM) We'd get Loney for nothing. I'd guess less than $2 million. And the Sox gain nothing. There's no point to claiming or trading for Loney. One thing to keep in mind is that the Sox remain committed to Avi. That means on most days, the lineup will have both Avi and Melky in the lineup which means one of them will be the DH and the other will be the LF. No room for Loney. Sticking with one of Ishikawa or Sands at least gives the Sox some defensive flexibility since both can play 1B and corner OF. Loney is a 1B/DH, that's it. I'd rather see what a 24 years young Avi Garcia has to offer instead of a 31 year old James Loney. At least with Avi there is still some potential upside and untapped power.

As greatful as I am of LaRoche's 13M donation towards building a better Sox team without him, that money does not need to be spent right now. At least not on James Loney. I like Loney but for what he would cost in comparison to the marginal upgrade he would provide, it would be a dumb move this late in ST unless the Rays eat a big chunk of that salary. Save the money for future trades in June/July/August that could help the team more. That 13M is not going anywhere.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 01:28 PM) Shuck is bad vs RHP though. I think they are keeping Ishikawa. Last season Shuck was better against RHP. With the bench of Saladino, Navarro and Shuck, I'd guess Sands gets that last spot on the bench. Doubtful the Sox carry two LHB as outfielders on the bench.

Can't look too much into ST stats, good or bad. Davidson really should be at Charlotte since there's currently no starting role for him with the Sox and sitting him on the bench would be stupid. Things happen throughout the course of the season so its possible Davidson gets a shot at some point so its up to him to be ready. Sanchez is the guy I really feel for. Before the Lawrie/Frazier trades, I was hoping to see Sanchez get another shot as the starting 2B but the Sox understandably made those trades to boost the offense from their infield. I believe Sanchez will be an everyday 2B but for now there's just no room so Charlotte is the right call. Sanchez being just 23 years old makes it easier to accept. I think there is a very positive aspect being overlooked in these demotions. Davidson, Anderson and Sanchez all have the potential to become Sox infielders in the near future and they will be playing together everyday at Charlotte. Should the three of them ever become starters for the Sox, they will already have a rhythm developed between them on the field and know what each other is capable of on the diamond. Now, add little Jacob May to that mix of talent and thats four young players that are worth getting a little excited about, to some degree or another. Charlotte should be alot of fun to follow this year.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 07:56 PM) I have completely soured on rap. I can't even get myself to listen to Kendrick's or Kanye's new albums now and I just don't like Drake despite his skills. Just grew out of it unfortunately. Mostly listen to rock/alternative or singer/songwriter type stuff but everything I listen to is old. Whether it's five years old or forty years old, it's old. I can't get myself into any new music. I feel like this genre is dying. All the kids like country, EDM and like 16 year old rappers who do weird drugs or Gang bang or have one eye. Long story short, I need help being directed towards up and coming alternative or singer/songwriter type music. I hate country, I hate EDM and can't get into new rap. I like Counting Crows, Modest Mouse, Nirvana, REM, Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, Arcade Fire, Elliott Smth, Avett Brothers, Wilco, Silversun Pickups, Band of Horses, Bon Iver, Paul Simon, Pixies, etc. What is something newish and still active that I would like? Please and thank you. My tastes run somewhat similar to yours as far as Nirvana ( love grunge), Silversun Pickups and Modest Mouse. Not sure if you're familiar with the music site 'Bandcamp' but that's where I spend quite a bit of time finding new music and young/upcoming bands. I'm always adding to my music collection. The Brits have an incredible music scene going on right now with bands like Pulled Apart By Horses, Black Honey, Dinosaur Pileup, Gnarwolves, The Bohicas, Royal Blood and more that I cannot think of at the moment. The Kills have an album coming in June and they just debuted the first single from the album. The Dead Weather makes some good stuff too. Cage The Elephant is another band that keeps getting better with each album. One of my favorites over the last 5-6 years is a West coast band called Painted Wives, used to be called Railroad to Alaska. To me, they are a blend of Alice In Chains and System of a Down, but darker than both. Not sure if that's your thing or not but since you dig Nirvana you might like PW. Fuzzy Vox is an English singing garage band from France. They write some funny lyrics and the music pretty good.

Looks innocent enough to me. He easily could have ducked and run for cover but he didn't, he apologized and explained what happened. Lesson learned.
-
I wouldn't complain if the Sox gave Davidson a chance. He has more upside than last year's DH.

This Rockies' batting practice was video taped in front of a live studio audience. -
I have no problems with Swisher as a person, it's his s***ty batting stats that make the idea of him returning laughable to me. I would take Ishikawa/Sands over Swisher any day.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 28, 2016 -> 02:02 PM) The low back is actually protected well. It would put a great deal of stress on the posterior rotator cuff and lats (ala Peavy) in an attempt to slow down the arm and keep it from flying off. The hips would also be vulnerable because of the rotation in the place of the flexion. This is really good stuff and thanks for educating me. In order for Carlos to alleviate the abrupt finish in his delivery, would a longer stride towards home plate with the right leg allow more bending of the right knee and provide a better follow through with left arm? Perhaps helping his control?
-
-
QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 28, 2016 -> 08:56 AM) That would be my interpretation. Without the good trunk flexion to decelerate the motion, he really leaves himself open to abrupt finishes which makes it difficult to be consistent. Makes sense and thanks for the explanation. Do you think the abrupt finish in his pitching motion could add stress on the lower back?
-
QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 27, 2016 -> 09:09 PM) It says sinker in the article. Could swear he's been working on the sinker since late last year. Thought I had seen some fasballs with sinking movement in the low 90's from him.
-
QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 27, 2016 -> 08:53 PM) Tough to do with his motion. He'll really need to work on consistency. Is it the finishing part of his motion that inhibits him? The part where he finishes with a straight right leg and a lack of follow through with the left leg? His motion is odd in that it comes to such an abrupt stop.
-
So much potential in Rodon it's ridiculous to think about. Imagine how good Rodon could be if he learned to locate his FB/SL/CU and now add a sinker to that repertoire. Yikes!
-
Ha ha. I give LaRoche credit, he's much better at playing the role of the victim this year than he was at playing the role of a baseball player last year.
-
QUOTE (ypres @ Mar 23, 2016 -> 05:35 PM) His delivery seems different. Maybe its just me. I thought the same thing after his last start. Danks arm slot seems a bit higher than I remember.
-
Pretty childish move on Eaton's part. Eaton has lost sight over what's really important and that's team wins. Hopefully the Sox contend, May has a good season for Charlotte and the Sox trade Eaton next off season.

This should be fun.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 22, 2016 -> 01:39 PM) Frankie Presto @TimBaffoe 1h1 hour ago The biggest culprit in the White Sox/LaRoche fiasco? Insulated, privileged, willfully ignorant MLB player culture. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2016/03/22/baf...ite-sox-fiasco/ … There have been many good articles written on the topic of LaRoche but this is one of the best! Well done Baffoe! Thanks for posting this. Edit: cracked up with the Maiden reference.
