A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron
BlackSox13 replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Apr 22, 2016 -> 03:31 PM) Jose should be sent to Siberia and be forced to work in the freezing cold till his back gives out. This is a good idea but only if Rocky Balboa is Abreu's personal trainer. I can see how there would be some concern for Abreu but an early slump is nothing to panic about. If Abreu is still hitting like this come June, I'll be worried. Imo, Abreu is merely in a funk, that's all. -
Way to go Timmah! Davidson must feel Delmonico nipping at his heels from Birmingham.

Braun is 32, in the first year of a 5/105 deal and had lower back surgery last winter. No thank you.

Miguel Gonzalez getting called up, Danks skipped
BlackSox13 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Good to see the Sox are ready to do whatever it takes to win each game. Gonzalez makes much more sense if only for one start against the Jays. Will be interesting to see what the Sox do if Gonzalez pitches well against the Jays and Danks bombs against the O's. Not that I want Danks to bomb, but it's possible. I also think it's possible that if Gonzalez pitches well against the Jays he could take the Baltimore start away from Danks. Why not start Gonzalez against the O's, his former team? -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 07:47 PM) I liked Prince. Now I like a ton of music and I'm Prince's age. I have Purple Rain on vinyl and 1999 on CD. Can't say I've listened to anything recent from him but when you find good music you always like it. It's also good knowing he performed at the last Bear's Superbowl appearance and even did a bit of Foo Fighters "The Best of You " at the halftime show. His music spanned a lot of different genres which was cool and a funny moment from the movie Purple Rain when Morris Day was mockingly singing "Let's Go Crazy " most likely because it sounded like white people music. One of my fav albums from the 80's ,She's So Unusual by Cyndi Lauper had at least one Prince written song on it that I really liked called When You Were Mine. Also wrote the hits Stand Back by Stevie Nicks, Nothing Compares 2 U by Sinead O'Connor ,Manic Monday by the Bangles, I Feel for You by Chaka Khan and many many others. Rock on my man! You bring up many names that takes me back to my youth. I absolutely love anything with Stevie Nicks and Cindy Lauper has always been "cool". The Bangels did a hell of a job on their remake of Hazy Shade of Winter and intact it's on my phone. Like you, I dug me some Chaka Khan. I can live without Sinead O'Conner though, got really tired of that song due to the radio playing the hell out of it. Hey, do you remember what year Prince played for new years Eve on network TV? I think it was '84/'85...? While I'm at it, I'll just go ahead and mention the names Apollonian and Sheila E. since we're talking about Prince.

RIP Prince. Have always had a tremendous amount of respect for his talent and music. My all time favorite from Prince is 1999.

QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 05:38 AM) Doesn't that make your phone really heavy? What program(s) do you use to play and organize? I use the stock file manager and music player that came with my HTC phone. My music is stored on the netbook so I just plug in the HTC and copy whatever files I desire from the netbook. The important thing is to make sure the music is properly tagged before copying it over to the phone because if it isn't, the files will be crammed into an "unknown" folder on the phone.

I have 93GB of music stored on my netbook and 59GB of music on a micro sdx card in my cell phone. Best part is that all the music I listen to is 100% commercial/ad free. Soon I'm going to upgrade my cell phone with a 200GB micro sdx card so I can have all my music with me. Also going to get an external hard drive for storage. I love music.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 06:47 AM) No offense to the OP but, what a horrible article. Seriously. Some of those suggestions are quite funny at this point in the season. -

Frazier. I think tonight he gets things back on track. -
QUOTE (The Critic @ Apr 16, 2016 -> 04:30 PM) If you're going to b**** about it, don't go. Do like the Sex Pistols did, write an open letter refusing induction. I agree. Miller is a hypocrite for bashing the hall he was being inducted into. Only thing I can think of is that he wanted use his induction as an opportunity to bash the industry as a whole. I think Cheap Trick handled it much better than Miller did.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 17, 2016 -> 05:56 PM) Melky and Lawrie just turned it around too. This is true and shows that there's at least some signs of life coming from the offense. Another thing worth noting is the Sox have had one scheduled day off, a postponed game and have played 2 of their first 12 games at home. Now they come back home for 7 straight games after starting the season 7-3 on the road, I'll take that.
-
Every starter not named Eaton, Melky and Lawrie are struggling so its not just Frazier that's hurting the offense. Frazier's struggles are cause for some concern but the same goes for Abreu, Jackson, Rollins, Avi and the two catchers. Can't replace em all. Imo, there's no way any of those players struggling will continue to hit at their current numbers. All will improve to some degree, even Avi. The Sox are 8-4 with a struggling offense, imagine what they will be like when a few bats wake up.
-
No surprise at all. Some of us were pointing this out when the idea of signing Jackson came up. Jackson is better than Eaton in CF and Eaton better than Avi in RF. It's academic.

After reading this a few days ago, I'm even more against the idea of Sandoval. No athelete should need a food baby-sitter. Sandoval knows what he needs to do and yet does not do it. Hard pass is putting it mildly. http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/red_sox..._control_weight

Bangkok red light "mission trip" saved Sox from LaRoche
BlackSox13 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Hostel: Bangkok. Starring Adam LaRoche w/diabolical beard and favorite torture device, the crossbow. Adam Eaton as LaRoche's sidekick " the bearded clam" . Cameo by Chris Sale whom enjoys torturing his naked victims by slinging upper 90's fastballs at their genitalia. The cocked crusaders will torture their victims in the name of the Lord because it is the Lord's will! Movie shot in the latest technology the film industry has to offer, Gopro-vision. Coming to a theatre near you! -
Unless Danks lands on the DL, he will be in the Sox rotation. He will have some really good games mixed with some really bad games, just like he has been doing the last few years. Gonzalez best chance of becoming a Sox full time starter will be next season after Danks and possibly Latos are gone. Sox can keep him stashed at Charlotte until then.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 13, 2016 -> 01:15 PM) http://www.rollingstone.com/music/features...nsults-20160413 The Black Keys basically have recanted their induction speech for Steve Miller because of how much he was a dick to everyone It was rather stupid of Miller to bash the very hall that he was being inducted into but I do agree with some of the things he said about the music industry. One thing Miller failed to point out is the DIY part of the music industry today. There's an enormous amount of bands doing their own mixing, recording and self promotions without record labels, thanks to modern technology and the internet. In the end, Miller just came across as a bitter old man. Still love his music regardless.

The Sox bumped alot of kids up a level so the early struggles aren't that surprising to me. Then there's players like Engel and Michalczewski that were moved up despite having rather average seasons last year in A ball. Not that they should not have been moved up, just might take a bit to adapt to the higher level of competition. Plus, Michalczewski is pretty young for AA. I'll be much more concerned if some of the minor leaguers haven't adapted by the time June rolls around.
