A look at the depth picture for the major league club
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 4, 2016 -> 10:56 AM) In my view it is playable, but he'd likely have one of the weakest CF arms in MLB if he becomes a starter. Cool, thanks. I've been under the impression he ends up in LF due to his arm but wasn't sure if that was the right impression. I suppose if he can make accurate throws, hit the cut-off man and throw to the correct base, those things could help compensate for the lack of arm strength. Regardless of where he ends up playing I have high hopes for the little guy. Would love to see him leading off and raising hell on the bases in the near future.

Crain's: White Sox sign with Coke after 15-year run with Pepsi
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 4, 2016 -> 11:21 AM) Apparently I'm the only person here who likes Pepsi/Mtn Dew better. Nope, before I gave up soda I would take a Pepsi over Coke any day but Mountain Dew was my soda of choice. Live Wire baby!

Crain's: White Sox sign with Coke after 15-year run with Pepsi
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Apr 4, 2016 -> 09:42 AM) They both suck. America's obesity and diabetes problems start with these damned carbonated sugar drinks. Just say no. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Apr 4, 2016 -> 09:46 AM) I agree. Just drink beer at the ballpark. And make sure to buy a few before the 7th inning. Cheers to that. I gave up soda a long time ago. I stick with coffee for caffeine and Patron for a buzz.

A look at the depth picture for the major league club
It's been fun following May the last few seasons. He caught my eye by chance when I was following Anderson's progress during the '14 season. Question on May: The scouting I've read on him says his arm is below average so is it at least strong enough to keep him in CF?

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Apr 1, 2016 -> 11:40 PM) Wow AJ Pollock broke his elbow today I'm willing to trade them one of the Sox outfielders.

Sands gets the 25th spot
Shuck 2015. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...ar=2015&t=b Nothing reverse about those numbers.

Sands gets the 25th spot
I think the rationale behind this is to have left handed and right handed outfield bats on the bench.

How much would you pay to take Panda off of Boston's hands?
QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 1, 2016 -> 08:13 AM) coming from the fat men of the world, which in a way i am kinda, this was extremely funny. BS13, try to beat that one. Sandoval's father was the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and his mother a Teletubby. Sandoval wears a pool cover for a raincoat. Sandoval's scale weight looks like a phone number that ends with ' to be continued '. Sandoval ate Old Country Buffet out of business in one sitting. Eminor's avatar is actually a portrait of Sandoval smiling.

White Sox Sign Miguel Gonzalez
Looks pretty obvious to me that the Sox interest in Gonzalez is to add depth at Charlotte in case an injury or failure happens to the Sox rotation. I really don't think there's anything more to read into it other than that. Gonzalez reminds me a bit of Jeremy Guthrie as far as pitch selection (FB/SL/CB) and statistical results. When Guthrie was on, he could be tough but when he was off, he was serving up batting practice on a tee.

Looking at Sandoval's belly leads me to believe he's about to give birth to a teenage mutant ninja turtle.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 07:38 PM) His contract is signed, he has four more years of no weight clause. There is no reason for him to just give them a reason to withhold money This^ +1

How much would you pay to take Panda off of Boston's hands?
If a weight clause was possible with Sandoval, his weight wouldn't be a concern right now. Sandoval's lack of self restraint when it comes to food tells me he is not very dedicated to his job or his team. Boston can keep that bloated contract and player.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 10:26 AM) Honestly I don't think I want him at any price. He would just clog up DH for five years. And the toilets!

Seriously, is this guy trying to eat his way out of baseball? WTF? Sandoval could pass for Fat Bastard's stunt double in the Austin Powers movies. http://nypost.com/2016/03/31/pablo-sandova...million-backup/ Again, the Kung Fu Teletubby.

77M, give or take. The Red Sox can keep their Kung Fu Teletubby.

Spring Training Cuts thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 10:07 AM) They seemingly spent the winter trying to replace Avi. I have no doubt that if he flops again, they will keep looking to replace him. Yep. When I said " bet the house", I was being serious. Believe it or not. I'm hoping Davidson continues to hit at Charlotte to force the issue. Same for Sanchez who presents another scenerio in which Lawrie could be moved to DH to replace Avi and Sanchez to 2B to replace Lawrie. The nice thing is that the Sox have some in-house options to fall back on until June arrives. Who knows, maybe the in-house options prove to be the solution and then the Sox could be looking to use LaRoche's 13M charity donation towards acquiring a SP to replace either Danks or Latos.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 09:40 AM) Versatility wise, they have 5 OF (between 3 OF spots, DH and Shuck) as of right now so another guy who can play OF isn't really necessary for the last bench spot. True, but two of those OF are Melky and Avi so I would use the term 'outfielder' loosely with them. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 09:45 AM) Avi has an 84 wRC+ against RHP in 800 PA in his career. That's terrible. Loney's bat might not be impressive, but even his uninspiring 2015 RHP splits are still way better than Avi's career numbers against RHP. I hope the Avi experiment has a short leash. I'd bet the house that Avi will be on a short leash. The Sox have other in-house options ( Shuck/ Ishikawa/Sands/Davidson/Coats) to experiment with in case Avi's fails before June and if those options fail then I suspect Hahn and his cell phone will be very busy making phone calls in June. I think there's too much focus on the LHB aspect of things. What really matters ( should Avi fail) is finding a bat, any bat, that can be productive regardless from what side of the plate he swings.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 31, 2016 -> 09:09 AM) While I am not a big James Loney fan, he is better at baseball than Travis Ishikawa. I'd rather have David Murphy than either, but its not very hard to upgrade on Ishikawa. If Travis breaks camp with the club, I anticipate it won't be long until some other LH bat finds their way to the Sox. If the Sox could get Loney for less than $1.5M, it may be worth the minimal risk. I'd shoot for closer to the minimum. Travis Snider is another idea. No great shakes, but a LH option for the bench. I have to imagine the Sox have been in contact with David Murphy. I think what we'll see happen is Avi gets his chance and will be re-evaluated when June comes around. If Avi is struggling in June, the Sox start shopping for a LH OF bat. Until then were stuck with the Avi experiment. My hangups with Loney are based on him only being a 1B and his bat is just not impressive. If the Sox were going to carry a five player bench I would be open to the idea of Loney but they are only carrying four on the bench so versatility from the last spot becomes more important, IMHO. Ishikawa/Sands bring the versatility that Loney cannot provide. I just don't see Loney being a significant enough of an upgrade to push Ishikawa/Sands out of the picture. At this point I would rather stick with what the Sox have and see how they look in June.

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Mar 30, 2016 -> 09:45 PM) Nope. After 3 straight losing seasons and after Avi's 1000 unimpressive career plate appearances, he should play if and only if he is producing. He doesn't get any more development time on the major league club. If he's hitting and can manage the outfield or can be hidden at DH great. If he can only provide value as a platoon bat, great. If he can't do that send him to AAA and see if he can figure it out. If James Loney or anyone else can hit righties better than Avi, then Avi shouldn't be playing. Like it or not it should be obvious the Sox are going to give Avi another chance. Sometimes it's better to give our own hot garbage another chance instead of trying another teams hots garbage. As badly as I wanted to see Avi replaced or traded this winter, I'd still rather see him get another chance over acquiring Loney.
