  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 14, 2016 -> 08:42 PM) Astros fans HATE the two big trades they've made over the last 8 months (Gomez and Giles) I don't blame them one bit and would hate those trades as well if I were an Astros fan. I'm not sure which trade the Astros got hosed on more. The Astros gave up two really good hitting prospects in the Gomez trade but gave up some really nice young pitching in the Giles trade. Tough call.
  2. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Apr 14, 2016 -> 03:16 PM) Velasquez with a complete game shutout against the Padres. 16 Ks. Just finished watching the highlights. Man, was he filthy today. The Phillies have really nice young arms in their rotation.
  3. That is a really nice write-up and thanks for posting it LDF. Maybe I'm a Homer but I do think the offense will become more productive. I'm more concerned with the #4/#5 pitchers.
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 14, 2016 -> 07:43 AM) LaRoche lies throughout this article and sounds like a dumbass parent who thinks his kid is more special than anyone else's. Two infuriating parts of this article: But Drake was different, he says: "the exception to the rule." He began to accompany his father to the field at the start of spring training in 2011, LaRoche's first year with the Nationals. By the second day, LaRoche says, 9-year-old Drake was shining shoes and picking up baseballs after drills and feeding tees. LaRoche says it got to the point where teammates would wonder what happened when Drake wasn't there. Yeah, you dumb f***. It's like when you wonder why your teacher didn't show up or your boss isn't there. It's not because you're sad, it's because "holy s*** this is amazing!" "I would go to those managers every year," he says. "I would tell them, 'Listen, if there's ever an issue, specifically if a player comes up to you, you've got to let me know.'" So what the f*** changed you dumb f*** you. "You can say, 'That's no place for a kid to be,'" LaRoche says. "The way I see it, he's going to be around that regardless, unless you home-school and raise them in a bubble. I can't think of a better place for him to be when he gets a taste of that than with me." You stupid f***, Adam LaRoche. Being around it with children your own age and growing with them is different than being around a bunch of testosterone-filled professional idiots. Does Drake? "Honestly, I think he sees it as more time to hunt and fish," Adam says. Notice the complete lack of ever talking about development or schooling. F*ck you and your stupid f***ing kid, Adam LaRoche. I wub this post! Well said sir!
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 13, 2016 -> 08:16 PM) Similar to his first outing where he gave up the big hit with 2 outs. Kind of shocking how bad he's been in his first two outings. Agreed. He looked pretty good in ST. Could be a matter of adjusting to a new team, league etc. I think he will be fine but he may take longer than some expect.
  6. Ouch. Fulmer just gave up a 3 run shot.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 13, 2016 -> 07:47 PM) You don't like a 7/0 walk to K ratio? Eh, it could be better. Maybe my expectations are too high?
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 13, 2016 -> 07:28 PM) Fulmer walking the world again Nah, can't be. He's ahead of where Rodon was this time last year.
  9. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 13, 2016 -> 10:27 AM) Here is the Deadspin piece. Thanks for posting this. Now, I get it! That is a great write-up!!!
  10. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Apr 13, 2016 -> 09:02 AM) You've won the internet for today and it's barely 9 AM. Bravo. Thanks Mike! Had to end my day on a good note before I go to bed. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 13, 2016 -> 09:04 AM) :notworthy
  11. Well, it's been said that one night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble. So there's that.
  12. QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 13, 2016 -> 08:02 AM) while you do make a great point, getting someone for this season, well it is not going to happen. i think the sox should do what they can to invest in a young talent, like him, for next season and on. they need to really think of fixing those next seasons, while at the same time, doing minor little tweaks to continue strengthening the main core. i just hope they think there job is done and will not do anything, in otherwords, just going thru to the motions and reap the rewards of the success, this team, this yr, and the success it will or may bring in. constantly improving the system, with major moves in the beginning, paying what is necessary in the front end, will pay much more dividends in the backend. that is the essential elements of successful org. I agree and am all for building the farm and would love to have Vogelbach in the system for 2017 and beyond. I was just responding to the idea of trading for Vogelbach to fill the 1B/DH void this year, which he is not ready for. The Sox need to look elsewhere for that solution.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Apr 13, 2016 -> 06:00 AM) Is he even MLB ready yet? I thought I remembered people here saying he was only in AA. Nope, not ready yet. Vogelbach just began his first season in AAA and his power has yet to come around. He needs more development time. I'd certainly like to have him in the Sox organization but he wouldn't be able to fill an immediate need. For those interested... http://www.baseball-reference.com/register...id=vogelb000dan
  14. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Apr 12, 2016 -> 05:54 PM) The Sox will continue to run Avi out there five days a week because they're looking to see if he's developing as a hitter. I wouldn't expect to see him go anywhere for the next few months. This is exactly what will happen. I'd guess that if Avi doesn't improve by June, Hahn starts making phone calls but until then the Sox seemingly remain committed to the Avi experiment. Maybe we will get lucky and Avi will warm up with the weather.
  15. Anderson and May need the reps at Charlotte so I'd leave them there. Sanchez would be a nice bat to call up but not as a DH, his glove should on the field. If Sanchez were called up, the infielders could rotate through the DH spot to get them playing time but i admit that im not so sure thats the best option. I wouldn't bother with Sands or Ishikawa unless an injury happened. Davidson should stay at Charlotte until he shows he can hit for a better BA and cuts down on the K's. Imo, I'd go with Coats since he can play LF which would move Melky to DH. Another idea could be calling up Sanchez to play 2B, move Melky to DH and see if Lawrie could handle LF. Not saying it's a good idea, just an idea and likely a desperate one at that. The internal options really do suck at the moment.
  16. QUOTE (ron883 @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 03:39 PM) I'm not entirely sure why Rollins is entitled to all this play time when he is coming off of an awful season and has very diminished range at SS. I simply don't support starting somebody his age at SS. The Sox have an above average defensive SS in saladino. He had a good spring and has had minor league success. Does anybody argue that Jimmy Rollins provides more on field value? Screw veteran entitlement. Play the player who helps the team more. Thought? Does Jimmy ride the pine soon? Saladino: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/saladty01.shtml Rollins: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/rolliji01.shtml If Rollins '15 season was awful then how would you describe Saladino's '15 season?
  17. Where's a good face palm emoji when ya need one? Oh well. Despite my die-hard fandom for the Sox and distain for the cubs, I do wish Schwarber well and a speedy recovery. I have to admit that I was surprised Schwarber covered as much ground as he did on that play. Runs quicker than I would have thought for such a big dude.
  18. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 02:53 PM) Lowest of low type of sports fan? Really? For hoping Arrieta goes down for the year with an arm injury? Why should I be upset or feel sorry for Arrieta if this were to happen? Please explain. Come on man. You really don't see the problem with hoping for something bad to happen to another person? All because of the uniform that person wears? As a team, I would love to see the cubs fail but I don't wish anything bad on their players. They have the Billy goat curse and that's good enough for me.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 8, 2016 -> 01:59 PM) Why not Melky No. 2? He's got no power and if he has to play, the 2 hole seems perfect as he proved yesterday. I'd rather have Rollins ninth. Because Melky is the best LHB the Sox have to slot into the middle of the order to break up the RH bats. Rollins in the 2 hole brings more speed to the top of the order.
  20. Have some huge fat snow flakes coming down in Schaumburg right now. It's a beautiful day for baseball!
