  1. Thanks for the insight. I am not in on Ortiz period. He's like Arroyo from the Reds with a lower ceiling. Good glove, maybe 50 hit, 45 power. A guy like that doesn't have to miss his projection by much to be a utility guy. And he's not young. Obviously, the O's aren't giving up Holliday, but if the headliner is Ortiz, the Sox will have a bunch of better options. Hell, Atlanta's rumored package is way better than that and the two teams have made a couple of deals already. I predict the O's will prospect-hug and go dumpster diving to add to the rotation. I feel like if a deal was going to happen between these two teams, it would have happened already.
  2. Nor should they be. Maybe he's going to be their 3rd catcher as well as a back up infielder?
  3. I see 20th on mlb pipeline's midseason. https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-pipeline-2023-midseason-system-rankings
  4. Wait. They've already got several unknown lefty relievers. In fact, the whole bullpen is basically unknowns. Seems redundant.
  5. Yet another player the Sox could have drafted instead of Gonzalez that they would love to have in trade. Shanking the best draft in the last 10 years is going to haunt them for a while.
  6. I believe the charges have always been in the D.R. The justice system there is very erratic with the whiff of corruption. Remember when Oneil Cruz looked like he'd never play again? The Franco situation seems bad right now, but it's very hard to predict exactly how it's gonna end.
  7. Final Jeopardy answer: In 2023, he managed to be worse offensively and defensively than Yasmani Grandal, while being over 2 years older. (Who is Martin Maldonado?)
  8. I'd say "stick a fork in him" but all my forks are currently in Benintendi, DeJong, and Stassi.
  9. I keep saying they're going to lose 110 games. I'm being facetious and yet...
  10. Yeah, Arroyo is an interesting guy. When Seattle traded him, the bat was really trending up. He was mediocre to bad last year at the plate. Still a ++ glove. If you believe he’ll hit, great buy low target. If he doesn’t hit, he won’t be able to push Montgomery off ss and becomes a utility guy. A divisive prospect for sure. I love Petty, so I am intrigued. But this org really needs bats.
  11. I am trying to be optimistic, but I just came back from Christmas Eve. My nephew (to his uncle, my brother): Do you think you'll go to ANY Sox games this year? My brother: I dunno. I'm really not feeling it. Probably not. My nephew: Me neither. These are both huge, die-hard Sox fans and the last 2 seasons have killed their enthusiasm. It would have helped if Grifol had been canned. Both pointed to how dumb/arrogant he is negatively impacted their enjoyment of the product. It's gonna be a long, maybe 3 years?
  12. I’m not sure the Orioles have innovated. Like the Nats before them, they lucked into the first pick in 2 years where the top prospect was a stud. The difference between Rutschman and Holliday versus Vaughn and Madrigal is pretty stark.
  13. And now for a feat of strength: stomaching the 2024 Chicago White Sox!
  14. If Fedde's really a 2 WAR player, I bet they deal him at the deadline. This org has such little talent, there's gonna be years of churn.
  15. Actually, I think 2005-2006 was a pretty legitimate championship window. They won one year and were dominant in the first half until fading badly.
  16. And here’s to you, Chuckie Robinson, Pedro loves you more than you will know.
  17. I love Ramos, but he does not belong in the same sentence with Montgomery, let alone Robert. Robert is a superstar, Montgomery is a guy who has to pan out or they are screwed. Ramos is a guy trying to sneak into the Top 100, who may or may not end up a first division regular. This org needs impact bats. Especially if this is all Vaughn ever becomes.
  18. Apparently, his evaluation may have been off.
  19. Bazzana is the prize Oregon State guy this year. Chances are he’s gone by the time the Sox pick, but they could, and probably will, do worse.
  20. It’s being reported as “back up catcher to Korey Lee.” They’re going to lose a whole lotta games.
  21. They have picked a lane. They are developing pitching and supporting those pitchers with defense. I believe they are going to lose like 110 games, but at least they have picked a lane.
