  1. QUOTE (kevo880 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 12:16 PM) Not sure where to post this, but cool article from FanGraphs on where the team is heading: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-white-s...-remain-nimble/ Whatever else you think about the deals, it's fun to be The Team Everybody's Talking About for a while.
  2. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 12:13 PM) I'm surprised that this only got 13 pages- only about 8 of those reaction to the deal, especially considering that this signing is possibly the biggest we'll have this season. That being said, this is an overpay but I think it was necessary. It was just swept away by the Samardzija undertow.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 11:55 AM) I don't think it will happen soon, as I'm sure he'll want to see what Lester/Shields/Max get Didn't mean "soon" as in this week or anything. More like next within the next few weeks or a month. I'm not expecting it during the season.
  4. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 11:53 AM) So what's the deal with us trying to extend him? Will it be something that may happen during the regular season? Total speculation here, but it'll either happen soon or not at all.
  5. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 11:41 AM) CL Robertson R SU Petricka R MR Duke L MR Putnam R MR Ynoa R LOOGY Surkamp L LR Beck That's my guess. Ynoa won't be in Chicago next year.
  6. QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 11:37 AM) And there was still people upset by what they gave up. Lol gotta love it. Semien was certainly more valuable than most of those 20 guys though.
  7. I see Ynoa likes to walk guys. Seems like somebody with a shot though.
  8. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 11:29 AM) I am OK with this if the Oakland pitcher is alive. If he can pitch in a major league bullpen next year, even better.
  9. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 11:28 AM) Agreed. With Abreu here, and him going on 22 next year I believe. He was not going to get a shot here. Post-Laroche DH? It's not that far-fetched to suggest, I think. Anyway, I liked the guy. Props to those who called Phegley too. Definitely won't miss him.
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 11:27 AM) Frankly, it's better seeing Ravelo go than Anderson. No doubt, but was Anderson even still on the table?
  11. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 11:14 AM) Susan Slusser ‏@susanslusser 14s15 seconds ago The #Athletics are actually getting four players in the Samardzija deal I hear. And #WhiteSox getting two. HOLY S***
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 11:02 AM) Still wouldn't be surprised if an Alexei trade to the Dodgers is coming. I would be extremely surprised by that. Like I would experience a brief bout of incontinence.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 10:56 AM) Hopefully Bonifacio.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 10:54 AM) So if you trade Danks, leaving Sale-Shark-Q at the front of the rotation, you now have to fill two slots with some combo of Noesi, Beck, and/or someone you acquire in the meantime. That is a steep drop-off. Rodon can be a 4th, but they are making it sound like he's in the pen to start (or AAA). The other considerable pitching prospects (Montas, Danish, Adams, etc.) are not ready, and the guys between like Recchia are not likely to be much more than #5 guys. You have no room for error. You'd need to find another starter, maybe a McCarthy or someone like that. I don't think you want to go into 2014 Opening Day with Beck, Recchia or anyone else at that level in the rotation if it can be avoided. Both may be more ready later, but neither are now IMO. All depends on what they want to do with Rodon. We could always ask Brett Anderson to make 5 starts.
  15. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 10:53 AM) I agree with you. I think Rick will work hard to get him signed. My guess is they back channeled to get an idea and at least figure they have a 50% chance of doing it, which for the Sox, was worth it. And if not, the draft pick makes for a softer landing.
  16. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 10:51 AM) I like Semien and think he will be a very solid ML player, but you have to give up value to get value and Semien was in third place in the 2B race behind Sanchez and Johnson at this point. They have Saladino to provide value as a UTL and so Semien was more of a luxury for the team. Semien is better than all those guys right now, and it's not particularly close. He was more than a luxury - I would have bet money he'd be the primary 2B in 2015.
  17. QUOTE (Real @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 09:29 AM) KW says the plan may have changed with Rodon due to these recent moves. Hints at bullpen in 2015 Kenny. Just... ugh. WHY.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 09:17 AM) I think he would get something more like a million or two on a one year deal. He'd get 1/$5 without a doubt. He is not "worthless" as some have said. Just bad.
  19. I bet another high-profile trade is on the way. Probably for that outfield hole. Signing Bonifacio makes way too much sense.
  20. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 10:28 AM) I do not believe they are going to let Samardzija hit free agency. The Sox typically won't trade for a guy like this without some assurance or knowledge that said player wants to stick around long-term. And it seems like that thought gained a little traction overnight. We'll see.
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 10:24 AM) I'll say this, I was someone who entered this offseason very scared that we were about to waste the next 2 years of a really great core of Abreu/Sale/Q. Others wanted to continue the build for a really strong 2018. I'm happy with this because I did not want to see any more irrelevant seasons from one of the best sox hitters of last 10 years, best sox pitcher in who knows how long, and Q, who is great. You are great Q. Good post. For all the $/WAR, budgeting, stat-inspecting, value-this-value-that talk that we do - and I love doing - on days like this I just get caught up in being a fan and getting excited about my team. 14-game plans coincidentally go on sale soon, and I'm probably gonna reward the team for making some noise.
  22. I will miss Semien a lot, I really think he is starting 2B material. I seem to be in the minority but that's a steep price for a rental. Bassitt is no great loss, and presumably the third guy won't be either. If we can extend Samardzjia, great. If not, and I've only seen a few people mention it in this (epic, hilarious, exciting) thread, cutting him loose with the QO attached will ease the pain a little. That comp pick is probably more valuable than Bassitt + #thirdguy.
  23. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 10:19 AM) alright, so we dont need Sale anymore. Lets trade him to, hmmm who wants him, Boston maybe? /dan_lifschatz I was following "Samardzija" tweets last night and I did catch one from a Red Sox fan who was dissapointed that we'd be hanging onto Sale after all. Tough day.
