  1. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 11, 2014 -> 09:41 AM) Verlander, Sanchez, ?, ?, ?. Ugly Price is still there.
  2. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Dec 11, 2014 -> 09:24 AM) Watching him in NY - you'll see Seems like he was pretty good in NY. You're gonna have to give me a little more than that.
  3. I guess Porcello will hit free agency next year too. I had assumed that he had more years of control left than that. That makes this a little more even. Another consideration - is this a response by Boston to Masterson signing with the #MysteryTeam?
  4. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Dec 11, 2014 -> 08:54 AM) Jon Morosi ‏@jonmorosi 46s46 seconds ago #Tigers will obtain minor-league pitcher from #RedSox in Porcello-Cespedes deal, source says. @CJNitkowski first reported trade.@CJNitkowski reported. That makes more sense. Straight-up, Porcello for Cespedes was a robbery.
  5. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 08:52 PM) Ortiz's first 5 years yielded a 1.3 OWAR, Dayan's is 2.3. Ortiz did take off in year 6 though. WAR isn't quite fair because Ortiz didn't get as much playing time, although I understand it goes to your point that Viciedo's learning is taking place in the majors. Ortiz had a 105 wRC+ through his first five season compared to Viciedo's 95, which has headed in the wrong direction pretty much every year. There's just no evidence that a breakout is coming, other than "some other guys took awhile too." Let another team burn a roster spot for that belief.
  6. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 08:50 PM) You will be sorely disappointed over the next four years ..... Hahn's Dunn. Based on what?
  7. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 05:53 PM) I have no problem giving Viciedo another year to show improvement at the plate. He's not going to be a good defensive player but there have been a lot of bad defensive players that can hit and hit for power. I don't know why everyone is writing off a 25 year old. There are numerous players that have struggled at the plate in their early to mid 20's and then turned it around into nice careers. Ortiz and Carlos Gomez come to mind. I'm not saying he'll turn into that type of hitter but I'm not writing him off either. I always see in the minor league section people talking about guys being in age appropriate levels. Viciedo has been in the bigs since 21 so his development is occurring at the ML level. Nelson Cruz was just entering ML at 25. Ortiz was always a plus hitter and Gomez had speed and defensive talent to fall back on. Viciedo's "development" has consisted of the same recurring bad habits and continuing deterioration at the plate. After this many plate appearances, age is no longer an excuse.
  8. Sale - 5 WAR Q - 4 WAR Shark - 3 WAR Danks + Noesi - 1 WAR All of those are realistic, perhaps even pessimistic projections as to what our rotation could do next year. That's 13 WAR, which would have put us at 9th in baseball in 2014, and within 0.4 of 6th. To me, that makes this rotation fine. Certainly we aren't well equipped if somebody gets hurt, but I don't know a team that is, and if any of those top 3 miss significant time we're ****ed anyway. Would I prefer if Noesi was the 6th starter? Yes, but there are too many needs that are more urgent than this. I would not be opposed to a 1-year innings eater type guy, but anything beyond that would be a waste of resources.
  9. Tricky Rick? Tricky Dick Ricky?
  10. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 10:51 AM) Can't wait for that 720 ops signed til he's 37. Young LF please. You keep pointing to his .720 OPS as if it's in any way likely to resemble his numbers going forward. It was by far the worst offensive performance of his career and it's not like he's 34, he's 29. It's a completely unrealistic idea anyway, but stop misrepresenting the player.
  11. QUOTE (balfanman @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 10:36 AM) Maybe I'm off base here, but Crawford seems to me to be a guy who can transfer quite nicely from a speedster, to more of a power guy with adequate speed. Sort of a Jim Thome with a little less power, but better legs. Is it wrong to think that he could hit 25 - 30 home runs at the cell and provide better than average defense? If he doesn't have to rely quite so much on his legs he might remain healthier. Then you have the Herm Schnieder effect too. It's probably wrong since he's never even hit 20 and he's not getting any younger. I understand you're talking about him changing his play style but that's still too optimistic.
  12. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 10:30 AM) Just saw the signing bonus is actually for 30mil lol And to think that money could have gone towards rushing the bleacher reno.
  13. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 10:15 AM) ESPN just told me that Joe Maddon is worth 16 wins to the Cubs, yup. I need context.
  14. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 10:17 AM) Longoria is married to a Playmate. Ten years ago, the White Sox acquired Scott Podsednik, who also is married to a Playmate, and immediately won the World Series. Therefore, it is imperative the White Sox acquire Evan Longoria, so that they can immediately win another WS. I also understand that he happens to be kinda good at baseball, which can only be deemed a bonus. Are there any other baseball players who are married to Playmates, or supermodels of any kind, that might be cheaper to acquire?
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 10:10 AM) He will go fart I read this, chuckled, looked away, then read it again and chuckled harder. I am an adult.
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 09:42 AM) So I am absolutely not trolling here whatsoever, but I think Ervin Santana makes a hell of a lot more sense than Edinson Volquez. I brought him up a long time ago but his gopheritis worries me. He could be rough in our park, as rough as Danks. Unless Danks is gone, I don't think signing any starting pitcher makes much sense anymore. Put the energy into the lineup.
  17. As long as Gordon Beckham isn't hitting 2nd, it typically won't make much of a difference, as wite said. A fraction of a run per game.
  18. This would have to be contingent on a Danks deal. Guess I'd rather pay Volquez 2/20 than have Danks. But if we shed anything less than 100% of Danks' salary then what's the point?
  19. We won a World Series because Iguchi was unselfish.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 09:19 AM) Bill Brink ‏@BrinkPG 8h8 hours ago Buzz in the hotel lobby: #WhiteSox and Edinson Volquez have mutual interest. Only if it's a cheap one-year deal. Otherwise, please no. EDIT: You know what - please no regardless.
  21. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 10:14 PM) He's not as attractive at the deadline as he is now. He's a big buy low candidate. If the Sox traded for him from another team we would all be very excited. I haven't read the thread past this post but I can tell you that it is false false false. I would be unequivocally pissed if the Sox acquired him. Just like I was when they tendered him an offer.
  22. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 09:44 PM) That kid is a complete tool Yeah somebody needs to smack him and anyone else who spends time antagonizing famous people on Twitter.
  23. QUOTE (QuickJones81 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 02:03 PM) Matt Davidson........bwahaha, sorry guys a little loopy from all the news today It's improba-bleh, but not impossi-bleh.
  24. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 01:12 PM) Seriously though, it seems that everything has pointed at the Sox organization being in love with Micah for a while now, I think he's your starting 2b. I agree, Hawk crushed on him all year. I don't think he's ready though. It might not be pretty. Get Bonifacio. He's Bona-FEE-day.
