  1. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 03:20 PM) Only the White Sox could have two rumors on the same day which would send the team in two complete opposite directions for the upcoming year lol. This doesn't even rise to the level of rumor. This is Red Sox idiots throwing s*** at the wall.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 03:14 PM) They won't go no matter what if the Sox don't compete for the division. Just like Reddy, by no means do I want the White Sox to trade Sale. However, if it's a deal that is just far too good to pass up, then they need to consider it. Such an offer will never occur because that type of trade gets one or both GMs fired, which is why it's ridiculous every time this topic comes up.
  3. QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 02:58 PM) You should check out the tweets of some internet scrub named Dan_Lifshatz. Dude is convinced this is basically a done deal lol. I wish I hadn't.
  4. Guy gets dirty sox sometimes.
  5. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 3, 2014 -> 10:39 PM) Who cares? He isn't a one year rental, we would have him till he's 34, that's as good as it's going to get. I'd listen if Dodgers are willing to throw in some money. Not necessarily though, the final three years are essentially one big player option. So if he has another great year, he opts out. If he struggles, then you're probably on the hook for $77M for a player who just struggled. I don't think this one's realistic. I couldn't root for that guy anyway.

    Hamburgers

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 1, 2014 -> 11:16 AM) Has anyone ever been to The Assembly in Hoffman Estates on Barrington Rd and I 90? Every burger comes with a mushroom sherry sauce, and it is pretty much the best thing ever(with a burger) They also do excellent ribs. A place called Sweetwater in the Loop has surprisingly good burgers. Au Cheval's cheeseburger is amazing.
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 10:57 AM) with one of the more bizarre love stories i have seen in a video game Haven't played Dragon Age so not sure what you're referring to, but consider Mass Effect too and I think we can safely say Bioware has a thing for bizarre love stories.
  8. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 10:44 AM) A guy who put up 5+ fWAR on a cheap contract under team control for a while. He's also left-handed. It's not easy to get into the top 50, but it seems like Quintana is the perfect combo of talent, team control, and below-market value contract. Yep. The Jays would trade Encarnacion (49) for him? The Phillies wouldn't give up Hamels (39)?
  9. It's easier for me than the vast majority of people to go to games. I live 4 miles north of the park right on I-90 and that's an easy drive regardless of time of day, or I can take a quick Green Line ride. I still only go to 7 or 8 a year because watching in the living room is just more comfortable. That's all the excuse I need. I don't think that makes me a bad fan because I still devote an inordinate amount of time to the team. Attendance is over-quoted anyway, for all sports, because an ever-increasing amount of money comes from TV. I echo those who have said that you can't compare the Sox to the Cubs. The Cubs are an anomaly because Wrigley is an American Treasure.
  10. Quintana being nothing more than an honorable mention is puzzling to me, and a big miss on Keri's part.
  11. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 2, 2014 -> 04:12 PM) Dan Hayes ‏@CSNHayes 7s7 seconds ago #WhiteSox did/will tender contracts to Dayan Viciedo, Tyler Flowers, Javy Guerra, Hector Noesi and Nate Jones before 10:59 pm deadline.
  12. QUOTE (shysocks @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 09:58 AM) We're all unwittingly involved in a prank that Jose Canseco is playing on all of us. Every last one of us. God, I had no idea how on-the-money this was. I just kind of meant that his whole life is a prank.
  13. Normally not one for rosterbating but here we go. Lineup: L Eaton S Melky (4 years, $60 million) R Abreu L Davis R Avisail L Gillaspie R Alexei R Flowers R Semien Bench: R Viciedo S Sanchez S Nieto L JorDanks L Shuck Rotation: L Sale L Quintana R McCarthy (3 years, $42 million) L Danks R Noesi Bullpen: R Petricka R Putnam L Duke R Guerra L Surkamp R Carroll That's a .500 team with room to get better, no?
  14. The whiff of Q being involved in trade discussions makes me sad. Like others have said, you better be BLOWN AWAY to consider it.
  15. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 06:42 PM) I'd rather have Davis than LaRoche. I would too, it's a much better upside move. Just keep him away from lefties and you've got yourself a good hitter, and cheap. And Davis isn't good enough to force you to scrap any potential rotating DH plan if you brought him in, so that could still be a possibility.
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 03:15 PM) God what a comparison. It's never too late for something that amazing. I would say do it. New avatar. Thank you for giving me the encouragement I needed.
  17. Onelki, you came and you gave without taking... Nice enough pickup. Get arms, see who sticks. Repeat.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 02:58 PM) http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/11/...for-assignment/ Just so we can have it somewhere. My initial reaction to this was HURRAH and my reaction after thinking about it for a little bit is HURRAH Also, my favorite Belisario memory was when he gave up all those hits to the Twins because I was at a bar and I was like "this sucks, I've totally been jocking this guys balls on Soxtalk and he's going to blow this save" and then he blew the save. My favorite Belisario memory was attending the Sox-Yankees game he blew after Danks threw 8 shutout innings. Also I kept wanting to put Bottles the Mole from Banjo-Kazooie's head on Ronald Belisario's body and calling it "Bottles the Moleisario" because I think they kind of look alike but I never got around to it and now it's too late.
  19. Article speaks for itself. This was really fun to read. Bonus points to anybody who can figure out the Sox guy before reading it, I know I couldn't figure it out. http://grantland.com/features/mlb-transaction-trees/
  20. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 10:59 AM) It's an interesting case, for sure. His salary is going to be JUST high enough that it feels like it costs something to keep him. Even though I'm as big a Viciedo-hater as anyone, I think I'd tender him a contract. If we fail to land a real solution in LF/DH, giving him another year probably IS the best choice. And worst case, if we DO get a real solution and you can't trade Viciedo, you can DFA him and only be out $4m. Seems like a good insurance policy. I resent that. Viciedo's estimated arb is $4.4M, which is basically what we're paying Duke next year. It's not a big deal but it isn't nothing either and I'd prefer we didn't even put ourselves in that position.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 10:26 AM) Viciedo is a strange case. He just turned 20 when he was assigned to Birmingham. What would Courtney Hawkins have done in Birmingham this year? There are flashes. Early in 2014 it looked like he turned a corner. Maybe another year of Steverson would do the trick. This guy seems to have a different hitting coach every year. Steverson was quoted a couple of weeks ago saying how good Viciedo wants to be. You look at his physique and I one would tend to think he probably gets a little lazy, but apparently he is very hard working. You aren't going to get much for him, unless he is some throw in with a bigger trade, which would be fine. If the option is to let him go for nothing or trade him for someone else's crap, I think sticking with him one more year makes sense. I did listen to a Hahn interview at the end of the season, and he was asked about Viciedo's status. He pretty much danced around it. I would hope the Sox are mulling the third option, which is to non-tender him and avoid the risk of being on the hook for $4M and another year of a wasted roster spot. Let somebody else waste time and energy on him.
  22. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 10:24 AM) He only had 600 PA's because he struggled with ML pitching. Ortiz had 1200 and at his age 25 season put up a slash line of .234/.324/.475. That line is obviously better than Viciedos this season, however, the entire league was better offensively in 2001 than it is today. I am sure someone here knows where to find the differential factor between 2014 and 2001, but I think when applied, the numbers will not be all that different. I don't think hitting is Viciedos problem either, it is more being disciplined of when not to swing that gets him in trouble. That's why I cited wRC+, it factors in the league's offensive environment. Ortiz was at 100 in that season. Viciedo was at 88 last year.
  23. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 09:55 AM) I think people forget how young Viciedo still is, he sure does have room to improve to reach his ceiling. He comps pretty well to how players like Bautista and Ortiz did through their age 25 seasons in a time where offensive production has regressed. There is still so much raw talent in that bat, I would hate to give it up only to see it get put together someplace else. I understand I am in the minority here as many have moved on from Viciedo, but I still have hope that he can put things together. He has shown flashes, periods of time where his bat is dominant, but unforunately not very consistently and not as often as you would like, but I still have hope for him. So that being said, I would need a very interesting return to trade him, not a backup C with no real upside. I would take another change of scenery candidate or quality player that fills a hole along with a low level prospect. Jose Bautista only had 600 PA's by age 25; I don't think he's a comp at all. David Ortiz had a career .351 OBP and a 101 wRC+ through age 25; he knew how to hit. Viciedo doesn't, is sitting at a .298 OBP and 95 wRC+, and he's going in the wrong direction.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 04:49 PM) Nick Cafardo ‏@nickcafardo 10m10 minutes ago Whitman, MA According to a mAjor league source the Red Sox offer to Jon Lester falls into $110-$120 range over six years. I'd be insulted at that if I were Lester.
  25. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 04:30 PM) Two of them actually. Melky and Rasmus. Yup, thank you. Oversight on my part. QUOTE (Lillian @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 04:52 PM) Compare the career stats for Navarro and Viciedo. Then, take into consideration that Navarro has had 5 years, in his prime, between ages 25 and 30. Viciedo is just 25, and has his prime years ahead of him. I think it's reasonable to assume that Viciedo should improve his career stats over the next 5 years, while Navarro is likely passing his prime. I'm not at all opposed to trading Dayan, but I'd think that they can get a better player for him. He still holds promise, which Navarro lacks. Navarro is what he is. I don't see any reason to expect him to improve going forward. There are probably teams who believe Viciedo can still become a potent offensive player. That may, or may not be the case, but a 25 year old, who has already had two seasons of 20 plus homers, one in fact with 25, might be tempting to a GM, looking for a RH power hitter. You neglected to mention that Navarro has put up those numbers as a catcher, while Viciedo did it as a (particularly bad) corner outfielder. There's a huge difference there. And the thing about Viciedo's age is that it doesn't matter when he hasn't shown any improvement. I agree that a breakout is possible but it's been the same thing with him every year. My stance is known. I've already got the hat picked out.
