  1. All the Craig Bonds have done at least $750 worldwide and Skyfall was a smash. They aren't worried about Spectre making money. http://www.the-numbers.com/movies/franchis...ond#tab=summary Never mind, I'm an idiot. I was adding worldwide together with US. Skyfall is the only one above $600. Still think Spectre will be all right.
  2. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 03:16 PM) According to film analysts, Spectre needs to make $650 mil in order to break even. Zero chance it doesn't make that.
  3. Honestly I'm not sure why they passed on his option. They'd get $3M worth of production out of him in just 19 games...
  4. I have to think the two sides have been in communication and know what each other wants, so if there's a deal to be made it's practically already made. If the Sox want him back, there's not much risk of him signing elsewhere, right?
  5. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 08:11 AM) Norris is much better against lefties than righties. Like Phegley, there are ongoing criticisms about his D and his pitch-calling. His OPS was barely 700. And when you want to trade away a young 2B who can hit, a CF who did nothing but rake and play great D, Norris must be a hero. There can be no other explanation to pay that kind of price. Most teams would use Thompson and Micah...the sox have so little creativity and the manager so limited in skill, that they don't know what to do with them except assign Thompson as 4th OF. Both have skills well above the Sox median...find a way to use those skills. (Micah can hit; Thompson can defend and might be able to hit- at least he has so far) His OPS was barely .700... in a pitchers' park at the weakest offensive position in baseball. The problem is you throw the word hero around so often it has completely lost all meaning. From what I can tell, it seems to describe all guys who have ever succeeded in MLB but either aren't the absolute best or aren't at the top of their game. Sometimes there's value in acquiring some of those.
  6. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 3, 2015 -> 06:27 PM) Correct me if I'm wrong, but that stat is simply looking leverage and ignoring all other bullpen management aspects. Second, wouldn't having a high paid closer who pitched very well in high leverage situations completely skew that stat? Not to be a dick, but I'm not sure that stat really proves anything. Again, correct me if I'm wrong in my understanding of the metric. I'm not sure a high-salary closer would skew it that much, and the talent of the individual pitchers is ignored. It's just to measure whether the manager used his pitchers in the right spots. Whether his best guy was Wade Davis or Fernando Rodney doesn't matter. It's whether he tended to use that guy when the game was most on the line, or when the matchups were the most favorable, and so on down the depth chart. It's not useless but it is definitely not conclusive either. It doesn't know whether a guy was unavailable because of illness or rest, but I would think that evens out across the league. More importantly, it specifically doesn't address if a manager lifted his starter at the right time, which is one area where I think Robin is more open to criticism.
  7. 2015 MLB-wide catcher wRC+: 85 American League catchers: 82 Flowers: 78 Meh. 2015 was the worst year for catcher offense since since 2007.
  8. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 08:26 AM) The New Vegas vs Fallout 3 argument is very polarizing to people. Me, I think FO3 is the best game ever and New Vegas is just another game. Fallout 4 same devs as FO3 so that's good news. Never played New Vegas as it just didn't have the same hype factor as FO3 (which I agree is a classic). What specifically makes it inferior?
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 01:36 AM) I mean how dare those ladies on the View rip Florina's face like that. It's ridiculous. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 01:36 AM) Like I said Whoopi and Joy are no beauty queens. They better apologize Friday. These aren't even different posts. It's the same post.

  11. I don't think there's any chance of this theory being true. I think Jar Jar was created to amuse kids and nothing more. It's just a guy on reddit having some fun - my guess is even he isn't taking it seriously. People on reddit like to come up with quirky theories just to see if they can defend them.
  12. For the record caulfield didn't come up with that. It's in the comments section of the page he linked to. Do a better job of attributing things that aren't your own thoughts. Clearly it's confusing to a lot of people.
  13. This argument deserves a soundtrack.
  14. QUOTE (shysocks @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 12:16 PM) I've always liked Castro. I would give up Montas for him, no problem. His contract is long, yes, but it really isn't bad at all (4/$37, meh). I think he's as good a bet for a bounceback as anybody; I think luck has had a lot to do with his two bad seasons (look how he hit more ground balls those years yet had a lower BABIP); I think he's a prime example of the mythical Change of Scenery Guy. He's cheaper than Alexei Ramirez next year. He's, what, 10 years younger? I know who I'd rather have, and I'd give up some talent to do so. With the eternal caveat that it depends on price, Castro is exactly the type of guy we should be trying to trade for. I think more would agree if he wasn't a Cubbie. I've seen a lot of people posit that we'll pick up Alexei's option because the stopgap free agent shortstops aren't any good. That is true, but Castro could be a building block. He's no stopgap. Those are still my basic feelings on the matter. If the Cubs are intent on dealing Castro - which it seems like they are - the Sox should absolutely get involved.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 3, 2015 -> 08:59 AM) One thing that just hit me. If Sandy didn't take the job because of Robin's lame duck status, that probably means they aren't looking to extend him, otherwise they would have told Alomar they were looking at it to get him to come here. I think you're right. I've been puzzled at the conclusion some have reached that Robin will be extended, I think his seat is way hotter now than it was after the 99-loss season.
  16. QUOTE (spiderman @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 04:25 PM) Albers and Soto should be brought back, but, as well as Albers pitched, it should be on their terms. While I don't love their bullpen, and it take a hit losing a dependable guy like him, they need to spend their available money wisely. I agree with this. Don't give him more than a couple million. He is replaceable.
  17. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 23, 2015 -> 10:58 PM) Without going into spoiler territory, how does the story compare to previous installments? I know it's toned down, but is it as bare bones as some publications suggest? If you compiled a list of the plot's main bullet points, it would look a lot like previous Metal Gears. But that's only surface deep. A lot of characters feel pointless and uninteresting, but the biggest problem comes in the way the story is presented. They dump most of the key exposition on you in audio tapes, several at a time, each one being anywhere from one to ten minutes long. It was hard for me to absorb the information in those while also playing, so if I wanted to get anything out of the story at all, I ended up just sitting in the base listening to tapes for long stretches. It's also lacking some of the personality of the rest of the MGS games. The goofy Codec easter eggs are gone. I mostly forgave that because of all the weird items you can research and how they allow you to interact with enemies, but that isn't plot. I originally wrote more here about the nature of the ending, but I cut it because even those minor details felt kind of spoilery and I don't want to taint anything for you. I want to emphasize that despite these complaints, this is one of the funnest games. It's just fun.
  18. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 12:41 PM) https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWars/comments/...ined_force_user That is what makes the internet great. Right there.
  19. QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 10:42 AM) Saw that live last night. I laughed. Frank suffers from verbal diarrhea. Overall, it was really hard to watch Fox coverage of the postseason. Joe Buck doesn't do it for me, but I'm kinda whatever on him. 3-man booths suck. Verducci seems like a douche. Harold Reynolds is terrible...so stupid. I read something about Harold that's true...he would be twice as good if he said half as much. And really...I stayed away from the pre and postgame as much as possible. Pete Rose and Arod? Fox sucks. Harold Reynolds is just unbelievably bad. How can they not do better than him?

  21. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 30, 2015 -> 09:21 PM) I didn't see the game. What happened. Rose held it in isolation at the three point line for too long, started his drive too late, and took a bad step back jumper that wasn't even close. Ultimate Hero Ball possession.
  22. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 30, 2015 -> 08:59 PM) He was screaming at Rose to drive on that terrible last shot. Yeah that shot is what people hate about the NBA.
  23. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 30, 2015 -> 08:11 PM) Is Ventura known to give a lot of bombs? Those were some bad pitches. No, he limits homers well. Good work tonight Yordano.
