  3. QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 09:29 AM) Someone posted after 4 innings into the first game of how pathetic the team is. Its just a place to vent more than anything as an admin told me a couple days ago. Which is true. Some of the smart baseball minds even vent in some s***astic ways in the game threads. Cool, you've talked me down a little. Whining about people overreacting in game threads is probably more annoying than people overreacting in game threads by now anyway. Just like the guy who says "nobody cares about your fantasy team" has jumped the shark and is now worse than the guy telling you about his fantasy team.
  4. QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 9, 2015 -> 09:21 AM) Gamethreads have always been that way and will always be that way. They are that way when things are going good as well. Then you see a whole lot of over confident posts in them too. Yeah I know, it just seems especially ridiculous to proclaim so many things over two games. It's just really, really not enough information.
  5. The game thread last night was seriously ****ing comical. You cannot draw conclusions about any team, ever, based on two games. World championship teams have two game losing streaks and bottom feeders have two game losing streaks. Don't overreact just because they were the first two games. For all the pearl clutching about Robin (and hey, I wished he'd pinch hit Gillaspie for Beckham in the 9th; not an extremely vital move but an extremely obvious one), it comes down to this: If Shark and Q combine for an 8.18 ERA all year then we're screwed no matter what else happens. And that's the bottom line, cuz shysocks said so.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 02:58 PM) This doesn't seem like an especially strong lineup. I'm confused as to what Bonifacio's role on the team is going to be. On the plus side LaRoche did drop in the order, which I consider a good idea.
  7. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 02:55 PM) #WhiteSox lineup for 4/8: Eaton 8, Cabrera 7, Abreu 3, A. Garcia 9, Ramirez 6, LaRoche DH, Beckham 5, Flowers 2, Sanchez 4. Quintana 1. https://twitter.com/CSNHayes/status/585893493891080193 I told myself not to get upset the first time Beckham started BUT IT DIDN'T WORK AT ALL I'M STILL UPSET.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 09:57 AM) I doubt we play this game tonight anyway. To that end... Scot Gregor ‏@scotgregor 3m3 minutes ago Weather forecast not promising in KC tonight for White Sox-Royals. Looks like heavy rain arriving at 5 pm and sticking around
  9. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 08:44 AM) So I'm a plain old groomsman for my buddy's wedding in July. July 4th to be exact. Sigh. I've never been one before. Do I have to do anything special before hand or am I just walking down the aisle, standing, walking back? Do I have to get my own tux? I'm clueless. The best man should take the lead on the bachelor party, any pre-wedding gifts for the groom, etc. If he's a good best man you won't have to deal with any of that. The only extra wedding duty you'll have is to be in pictures. Tux depends on how the groom wants to do it. Commonly, he will coordinate a rental package through Men's Wearhouse or something so all the groomsmen are wearing the same thing. You'll have to go in and get fitted a few weeks before the wedding. You'll probably have to pay for it and it'll be $125 or so.
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 08:26 AM) Hopefully Q is on tonight, but never fear, Johnny Danks is nails against KC. I wonder if Royals fans call him Cy Danks. Wow, he actually is. 3 quality starts last year and 5 runs in 20 innings. Also 15 K's to 10 walks. Shrug. Year before, 8 shutout innings. Everything pre-injury you can probably throw out.
  11. So physical and psychological punishment. Got it.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 08:00 AM) Lets just get the unofficial official gamethread superstitious rules out of the way now: If you start a game thread and the Sox win, you get to continue to make the game threads until the Sox lose. If the Sox lose, let someone else make it. If you forget to make one the next day, and it isnt done within an hour or two of gametime, squatters rights are lost. If the Sox lose this game that you forgot to make a gamethread, you are banned forever and the rest of the Sox season will be blamed on you. the end How does this blame manifest?

  14. QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 7, 2015 -> 07:16 PM) I don't understand how Alexei can screen him when he's coming from a different direction--that is, unless Micah was out of position, which he did seem to be--and it looks like Alexei was verbally called off the ball, which it didn't seem clear he could get to in the first place. Just visually, it looked like Alexei's fault because he shouldn't be wandering so far to the other side of the bag if the second baseman has a good shot at the ball, which Micah did. But I think we also have to assume there was some kind of miscommunication as you said, because Alexei had the play until he sort of pulled off it.
  15. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Apr 7, 2015 -> 02:36 PM) Hmmmm. I recall a buehrle game. Against CC. Im gonna have to look it up. Maybe it was 05 buehrle's hfirst start. Ill see if i can research it. March 31, 2008. Buehrle 1.2 IP, 7 ER. Sabathia 5.1 IP, 5 ER.
  16. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 7, 2015 -> 10:54 AM) I am not upset with any of the actions on either side and I think being upset with the Royals' guys is borderline homerism. I am not sure that Ventura hit Garcia on purpose, but the Sox had a right to respond and considering it was Samardzija's first start he wanted to show the type of guy he is. Moustakas is a douchebag to other teams' fans but I am sure the Royals fans love his energy. If he got pumped up after hitting a home run in front of 45K so be it but it's understandable that his teammate might get a bruise for it. 1.) Ventura hits Avi. Maybe it's an accident, maybe it isn't but it doesn't matter. 2.) Samardzija immediately comes at Hosmer to warn them. Awesome on Shark's part. 3.) Samardzija hits Gordon - fine, the Sox owed them one. 4.) Moustakas showboats after a homer - it's OD and a big day for KC and he's that type of guy, whatever. He knows the potential consequence but either way I don't think what he did was ridiculous. 5.) Samardzija hits Cain - 2 for 1 mentality, Moustakas just showboated, fine. 6.) Cain gets upset he was hit and he should have, it was an obvious plunking. I think everyone acted in accordance with baseball's rules given the circumstances of each individual situation. The true winner here was the umpires. They let the players play the game. Plus it's hard to fault a guy for how he acts after getting plunked. If I were struck with a baseball moving 90 MPH, I would literally curl into a ball and cry for 20 minutes.
  17. QUOTE (oldsox @ Apr 7, 2015 -> 08:39 AM) I have a bigger problem with Moustakas. He needs a humility lesson. The way he was pumping his fist and screaming you'd have thought he just hit a walkoff to win the division, not a solo homer in the 5th inning of OD. And yelling at Shark from the dugout after the plunking - guy needs to chill out just a tad. I'd feel differently if I was a Royals fan but guess what I'm not!
  18. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 08:50 PM) I was only half able to watch the game today (despite my grand talk of the day off, Looks like you edited your entire post away, which is a shame because I read it when it was there and it was long and looked like you put some work into it.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 09:05 PM) Well, of course they're PROBABLY not going to go 13-6 against the White Sox, and the Indians are even more formidable than before. God I hope not.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 07:49 PM) Id say theyre about even....lose Shields, Butler and Aoki....replace with Volquez, Morales and Rios. The paramount thing is, the confidence of their young core guys like Gordon, Cain, Perez, Moustakas, Escobar and Hosmer is at an all-time high. Same with Ventura. Shields and Butler werent as good as usual last year, either. Volquez is no Shields and it remains to be seen if Rios and Morales have anything left. They will also have to deal with regression in the bullpen and probably won't be going 66-1 when leading after 6 or whatever it was. I'll be shocked beyond shocked if they win more games than last year.
  21. I should add that Jennings did a nice job pitching to Gordon regardless and that I like Robin going to Drabek for an audition in a game we were never gonna win by that point. Cool it with the KC "powerhouse" stuff. They were honestly one of the worst pennant winners of the last 20 years and they got worse.
  22. Not even one game before Robin is getting confused with Jennings. Don't walk Morales anyway, he is not to be feared until he proves otherwise. It didn't make a difference in the outcome since we couldn't hit today, but someday it will. Terrible game for Flowers. Eventful debut for Micah. Get em next time.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 02:14 PM) Samardzija for both This. He'll be under a microscope.
  24. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 04:10 PM) It's not that bad for the Twins. They save over $6 million and it's not like they had any chance to compete this year anyway. You make a good point, but I think in general you'd like guys on 4-year deals not to get busted for steroids before they've played a game for you.
