  1. Didn't see it mentioned anywhere else on the site: The Indians locked up Kluber for 5/$32.5 with two option years. Other than Kluber's age at signing, which is a big factor, it is reminiscent of Sale's contract. Kluber will turn 29 this week, whereas Sale was what, 23 when he signed his?
  2. The villainization of A-Rod has gone so far, I feel like it's about to complete the circle and people will be actively rooting for him. (I am one of those people because I would just find it hilarious if he has a good year.)
  3. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 6, 2015 -> 11:03 AM) Library from 4-6 and school from 6-9. Phone on airplane and only school-oriented websites. Headphones on during my commutes and non-class activities. Have hope brother. Yeah you can pull it off. Headphones are a godsend. I'm attempting the same - Soxtalk and Twitter blackout at 3, then watch it on DVR after work. Will probably be easier for me since very few people I work with have any interest in baseball and the one who does knows I'm recording the game.

  5. Oof, what a gut punch. Also, Stanozolol? StaonozoLOL?? The jokes write themselves.
  6. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 03:20 PM) I still say Pizzeria Uno/Due are the best, though Lou's is quite good. They put one in about 4 blocks from home. I'm amazed I don't weigh 400 pounds yet. Nuevo Leon has been good the few times I've been there, though they were shut down by the health department fairly recently (since re-opened). Best tacos I've had by a fair margin are at Paco's Tacos. They're delicious and huge. Another favorite is Cemitas Puebla. There's one in Humboldt Park and one in the West Loop now. The Atomica Cemita is amazing. I get the sense you live in the West Loop maybe? Since Cemitas Puebla is on your radar and the Malnati's there only opened about 6 months ago. It's about a half a mile from our place and we have a rule that we only walk there - never drive or order delivery - to prevent said 400-lb benchmark.
  7. Nonsense. Malnati's is king.
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 02:07 PM) I struggled over whatever and facepalm You made the right choice.
  9. Legitimate LOL at the thread title.
  10. QUOTE (VAfan @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 01:56 PM) What are you talking about? LaRoche in 2014: March/April - .312, .413, .495 May - .341, .417, .585 If that's a slow start, I think we'll all take it! Career-long, LaRoche has a reputation as a slow starter and his OPS in April is by far the lowest of any month. He certainly bucked the trend last year though.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 01:51 PM) Something I think we're going to see a lot this year is Johnson being replaced by Beckham or Sanchez for defensive reasons in the later innings. SSS had a short piece today suggesting Robin will probably shift Conor to first and put Beckham in at 3rd a lot, which I can already promise you will make me angry because you're risking an Abreu-less lineup in extras.
  12. I got yer bullpen help RIGHT HERE. Jon Morosi ‏@jonmorosi 2m2 minutes ago Matt Lindstrom has signed with the #WhiteSox, source says.
  13. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 01:18 PM) Conor put up a 124 wRC+ against RHP last year. Even with some regression, 3B is far from a hole as long as Robin platoons Conor with someone capable against LHP. I'm little worried about Beckham being in that role though. Time for a little Beckham love like non-dislike: He will be a better option than Gillaspie in all aspects when we're facing a lefty starter. That said, his platoon splits last year are a bit of a mirage, they fluctuate year-to-year seemingly at random, and they come out more or less even for his career. But he still clears Gillaspie's bar.
  14. QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 01:09 PM) Good God, seeing it on paper it really hits home of how important Johnson is going to be to the bottom of the order. If he doesnt exceed expectations it will be a huge whole in the lineup for the bottom three. If Gillaspie's in there then odds are it's against a righty and I wouldn't call him a hole. He's legitimately good at hitting right handed pitching.
  15. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 12:07 PM) Projected lineups- Eaton Cabrera Abreu LaRoche Garcia Gillaspie Ramirez Johnson/Flowers Flowers/Johnson against A. Escobar A. Gordon L. Cain E. Hosmer K. Morales S. Perez M. Moustakas O. Infante J. Dyson WHY IS CABRERA HITTING SEC - Wait. Sorry, old habits.
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 01:35 AM) Thank you for bumping this thread. Brandon Phillips has never been a player who has been about OBP. He is merely a player who hit for a good average with a lot of power and hit pitches he could hit hard (or, rather, pitches he believed he could hit hard; this is the mantra of every hitter who has ever played the game of baseball). During a player's younger days, he is able to have the strength, quickness, and flexibility to hit those pitches. As he ages, all 3 of those deter and they are no longer able to do so. Some players adapt to this, and learn to hit pitches they can hit and layoff others, while others do not. Brandon Phillips may be an example of a guy who has not learned how, or is instead learning how to deal with it. It does not mean he is a bad player, nor it does not mean he is no longer capable of being a high-ish ceiling player. He has been a good player every year of his Cincinnati Reds' career, and last year was no different, so criticizing him, among the plethora of holes they have throughout that team, seems to be picking on someone who deserves not to be picked on other than the fact that he has a bit of a b**** of a contract (because the likelihood of him living up to $39 million over the next 3 years seems to be dim given that he's 34 in June and at some point, he has to stop playing great defense and hitting for good power). Brandon Phillips is a good player. Please (whatever the hell publication that was), don't pick on Brandon Phillips. Hey wait you're alive
  17. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 08:26 AM) Man, I'm pulling so hard for Beckham to do well. Like my god, the vitriol is insane. If he had never played with the org before we'd be hailing this as a good signing for a bench player. I'm a little bit bored of hearing this reasoning. You're right - if it was John Doe everything would be fine. But Sox fans don't know who John Doe is, while unfortunately, we have a lot of context and extra experience with Gordon Beckham that is absolutely 100% relevant. We've watched him play badly for half a decade, we've heard him proclaim a new attitude every season only for the same old patterns to repeat themsleves, and we're tired of it. I have a right to be frustrated about Gordon Beckham being on this team and I'm gonna exercise it.
  18. QUOTE (Sockin @ Apr 2, 2015 -> 12:23 PM) Haha I was going to update it in a little bit. It's a bummer that you can only get that on the club level/stadium club though. Honestly the sheer impracticality keeps me away from all the dumb helmet dishes anyway.
  19. QUOTE (Sockin @ Apr 2, 2015 -> 11:38 AM) The Sox Twitter account just tweeted all the new options, no idea about sections but here they are: Gourmet Grilled Cheese- https://twitter.com/whitesox/status/583665325708861440 35th St Tacos - https://twitter.com/whitesox/status/583665892996861952 Maple Glazed Bacon on a Stick - https://twitter.com/whitesox/status/583666284975501315 Garlic Parmesan Waffle Fries- https://twitter.com/whitesox/status/583666431105101824 Fried Pickle Chips - https://twitter.com/whitesox/status/583667197232418816 Grilled Chicken Caesar Wrap - https://twitter.com/whitesox/status/583667376773853184 Premium Desserts - https://twitter.com/whitesox/status/583667591475892224 You didn't even mention the RIB HELMET?
  20. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Apr 2, 2015 -> 10:53 AM) Every team has question marks. Sox stay healthy, get a little luck, and their young guys and bullpen do above average, this team can go pretty deep in my opinion. Look at the Angels, they have the best player in the game. They've gone to the post season 3 straight seasons with him, and haven't won a game. I mean other than LAA only making the playoffs in one of those seasons, all true.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 2, 2015 -> 09:07 AM) Besides Mauer, what the heck are the Twins spending all that money on??? Seems crazy their numbers are so high with a rebuilding franchise. 25.5 M between Ricky Nolasco and Ervin Santana. 10.5 M on Toriiiiiiiiii. Be sure to thank God for Sale, Quintana, and Abreu's contracts every night before bed.
  22. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Apr 2, 2015 -> 09:04 AM) Looks pretty darn nice: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0402-story.html Got through paywall. Watched 30 second ad for minute-30 video. Pretty nice though.
  23. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Apr 2, 2015 -> 08:57 AM) For as poor as the Sox attendance is and for as mediocre of a tv deal as they have, I don't think any complaints about their payroll this year have any validity at all. The Sox are just under the MLB average of roughly $125 million, but that number is skewed a little high due to the obscene payroll of the Dodgers and the Yankees to a lesser extent. Truth. The Dodgers are a problem.
