Everything you will read this spring about Rodon starting the season in Chicago will be completely driven by the media. In the example of this story, I'm sure he was asked if he's ready now, and of course he said yes because who wouldn't. There is no doubt that the Sox already know he will be spending time in Charlotte this year. And there's no doubt that's the smart decision. There are also legitimate arguments, which many are making here, that he isn't ready anyway.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 7, 2015 -> 02:54 AM) The Padres' announcer implied there was no correlation between stolen bases and having an effective offense. I guess he didn't watch the Royals from July on... I guess you didn't either? In 2014's second half, the Royals scored the 11th most runs despite stealing 40% more bases than anybody else. And the actual correlation between runs scored and stolen bases last season was -.017, which is a meaningless result. The announcer was absolutely correct.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 01:19 PM) Adam Dunn retired. Michael Jordan, Roger Clemens, and Brett Favre also "retired." Don't give up hope.

Who's taking it personally? I feel like I'm at least co-piloting the Beckham Sucks Express - I needed something to do once Viciedo was gone - and I don't think I've said anything nasty. Any examples anywhere?

QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 06:21 AM) If he had tried and failed in another organization it would be so much different. But we all have memories or the rise and fall. It's hard to dismiss that. But yeah, treating him as anything more than a utility player and role model is probably too much. That's exactly how I'll be treating him. What annoys me about him is the thought of the powers that be treating him like more. I'd like to not see that happen.

3/5 ST: White Sox vs Dodgers 2pm MLB Network

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 5, 2015 -> 03:08 PM) Apparently Conor is a storm chaser. Thought this was common knowledge. Either way it doesn't get less funny. -
By the way, Hahn could have done absolutely nothing besides signing Beckham and Hawk would have given him the same review.

At least he's trying to tone down the hyperbole.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Mar 5, 2015 -> 12:23 PM) What inning does Danks give up a 4 spot? Speaking of 4 spots, Melky hitting cleanup is certainly unique. -
WRT the linked article, those curveball heat maps were downright sexy. WRT shirseys I got a Dunn one about five months ago and I'm extremely proud of it.

I'm having difficulty believing there's a game today because it's been roughly 4 degrees outside for the past 3 weeks.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Mar 4, 2015 -> 10:01 AM) That's not the time I'm looking at. If you look at July he got up to .312 batting average. He had to end his season in august cause of an injury. Thanks for correcting me. He definitely took a nosedive after that point. Still, his numbers at that peak were not spectacular and I still think he has more to prove in AAA, injured or not. In the meantime, I'm of the opinion we're better off with Sanchez' glove.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Mar 4, 2015 -> 08:42 AM) Plus he actually was hitting in Charlotte before the injury slowed him down. I don't think that's true. Maybe I'm not clear on your timeline, but in the ten games he played at Charlotte before he missed two weeks, he hit .273 with one walk, three doubles, and one stolen base. That's not great.

QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 3, 2015 -> 02:41 PM) Well, he's a better hitter against LHP than Gillaspie. So is everybody.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Mar 3, 2015 -> 02:27 PM) Sanchez instead of Johnson.. Oh and Beckham I am irrationally annoyed that Beckham is on this team and it's only getting worse.

I've seen "The Sox want Micah to win the job" an awful lot in the last few months and I'm curious what is making people say that so often. Is there something specific you can point to? Just that's he the better prospect and they want all the better prospects to do well? I think I have an idea but I want to hear what people say first.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 26, 2015 -> 09:53 AM) Our own Rob Young (southside hitman) takes an in-depth look at the five-man field vying for the starting job at second base. This is a really good primer on the pros and cons for all five. Who do you think wins the job, and why? I imagine by now everyone knows where everyone else stands, but I'm Team Sanchez. I know the injury sucked for Johnson, but he needs to show something above Birmingham before he's handed a starting role. And him hitting .450 in spring wouldn't change my opinion because as we all know, Spring Training stats are stupid. The defensive state of the Sox also requires putting somebody steady anywhere they can, in order to mitigate the problems at other spots. Sanchez is the only one who qualifies because Bonifacio is needed elsewhere and Gordon Beckham is bad.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Feb 25, 2015 -> 01:38 PM) I don't know. My feeling is that Gordon Beckham will step up with a renewed vigor and be the everyday secondbaseman Everyone here should throw rotten fruit at you for saying that. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 25, 2015 -> 09:02 AM) I don't know, after the first one it felt like he would come back, these are the "no, no he's not coming back". And rebuilding sucks, I have no desire to watch bad basketball. That's fair. I shouldn't speak for all fans, but that was definitely how I felt. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 25, 2015 -> 09:33 AM) Nah, Jay wasnt on a team that had championship aspirations(right or wrong). Steve is right, the last time was Rose last year, and Rose in the playoffs 2 years ago. His first injury was easily the most devastating because he was in peak form that season (when he played) and the team was probably better than the ECF team from the prior year. The two injuries since then have had a sort of nail-in-the-coffin feeling for fans. The first one, that was a guillotine. -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 24, 2015 -> 11:24 PM) Man, you don't always win trades that decisively. It's not over yet, Soptic is only 23. Lots of guys have repeated high A ball while walking almost a batter an inning at that age and gone on to become stars.
