Why would he catch often? I mean, I have no problem with Grandal getting early rest DHing a lot when Vaughn isn't up (assuming he starts in minors) and the position is more open but I don't want to lose Abreu, Vaughn, or Grandal's bat "often."
I'm willing to sacrifice the like, 10 games. Although I would prefer he was extended and on the roster day 1.
Edit: just looked at the schedule and realized they don't have many days off early. But of course, that can change due to weather and COVID.
I think the point he is trying to make is if you use the excuse that they want to see him get minor league at bats for a couple weeks (just enough to get to that cutoff), you suddenly don't have that argument with the AAA season being delayed.
I feel like that shouldn't effect guys currently in the MLB though. Guys called up prior to any changes in the CBA and service time should be grandfathered in under old rules in my opinion.
