Definitely not a casual fan. Just at a point in my life where I can't watch games almost 3 hour 30 minutes long with nothing happening. Missed someone of those good Astros/Dodgers games due to being so long and slow.
That's another thing too. Start playoff games at 6:05/10 PM CT instead of 7:05/10.
Nitpicky comment here, but the closer pretty much never gets pulled after one batter (not even after two really) in a save situation. But I get where you're coming from.
Spotrac has their competitive balance payroll (including an estimated $14 mill in player benefits) at about $173 mill. The Giants would probably have to deal away a little bit of salary to make it work (probably a reliever or two like Dyson, Smith, or Watson or Joe Panik).
I was more looking at his OBP against lefties last season and career. Not good, but not as awful as Joc. If rosters somehow expand to 26 this year with a maximum of 12 pitchers, they can definitely add another bat to platoon with him (their boy Valencia!). But who knows if that will go into effect this year (probably not).
Looking at free agency and the Indians depth chart, they can still piece together a decent OF next year. A Brantley-less OF, but they can still improve over what they currently have. Denard Span (1.9 WAR) for LF or RF and then sign Jones or Dietrich for the other corner. Hell, even Joey Bats (1.4 WAR) as a DH with Santana playing 1B and Bauers playing a corner.
Hypothetically, if the DH were added to the NL tomorrow, how quickly would Carlos Gonzalez, Jose Bautista (despite the low average, still had some pop and about an 18% walk rate), and Evan Gattis sign?
I guess maybe in the sense of getting him here, letting him get to know the organization, and then throwing more money in his lap to keep him here longer could be easier. Think last off-season when they tried trading for one year of him.
Oh shit you're right. Opposite of what I said. Month-end close is the death of me today.
But my comment about them sucking for a long time still stands lol
If that prices the Orioles out of their price range, what are they going to spend the money on exactly? That organization is going to suck for a long time.
I only take it as a fluff piece if it's a major leaguer who has struggled the season (or two or three; think Beckham, Garcia etc) prior to the Spring Training the story is being written.
