  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 22, 2018 -> 03:12 PM) 670 The Score‏Verified account @670TheScore 1h1 hour ago #WhiteSox righty James Shields aims to reinvent himself and has made adjustments to his delivery, writes @MLBBruceLevine http://cbsloc.al/2CC9dpy How many starts was it last season where he threw on that 3/4 angle? I feel like he wasn't that bad to end last year.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 22, 2018 -> 01:25 PM) Once he goes through the 7 (was just changed in last CBA) days, he can then be waived. Gotcha. Having said that, I figured a team would trade for him though.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 22, 2018 -> 01:00 PM) He was designated for assignment, not waived. This. The Rays had 10 days to find a trade partner or he would become a free agent. He wasn't placed on waivers.
  4. The only reason looking at specific time frames makes sense if you are looking to see how a player was doing before and after an injury.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 22, 2018 -> 10:36 AM) Why did it take forever for Darvish to sign? Why isn't Arrieta signed? Do they need to be better players? Same agent. Similar problem, only everyone can use pitchers. And as you said, there are teams on the sidelines trying to stay under the luxury tax to reset their penalties. It's a pretty big reason that people seem to be brushing off.
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 21, 2018 -> 11:11 AM) I just kinda think he's Ross Gload. That actually wouldn't be a bad thing.
  7. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 21, 2018 -> 03:25 PM) I just don't see any reason for him to sign for that low AND that long. If it's that much of a steal, I could be comfortable with it, there's just no reason for him to do it. If he ends up having to settle for $12mm/yr, it'll be for 1-2 years. But yeah man, I don't even know if we're really on other sides of this fence if that's the price you have in mind. That could end up being his best offer. I just don't know how many other teams need a 3B or could potentially be done rebuilding in a year.
  8. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Feb 21, 2018 -> 02:59 PM) Kopech is starting on Monday, the game is webcast at 2pm......and I'm off work. Hell, I'll be working and still watching lol
  9. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Feb 21, 2018 -> 01:51 PM) If you strike out on Machado you move on to Arenado, not Donaldson. You wait a year?
  10. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 21, 2018 -> 01:39 PM) You keep saying that, but I don't know why. He put up 2.2 fWAR last year and both Steamer and ZiPS project him at 2.5. A league average player is "roughly 2 WAR." Ok, maybe he's slightly above? He's within rounding error of a league average player. Where did you get this number?
  11. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Feb 21, 2018 -> 11:30 AM) I think I’m leaning towards throwing a bunch of money at Donaldson for a few years instead of less money to Moose for more years. Gives us the chance to see if Burger tears it up in 2028 or not. What year did you mean here?
  12. QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 21, 2018 -> 10:01 AM) Either adderall (stims in general) or weed. Since he is challenging it, I'm thinking adderall (I posted this in the other thread about it too).
  13. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Feb 21, 2018 -> 10:14 AM) That deal would make zero sense of the Sox, you are paying a guy for two seasons that you don't anticipate being competitive and then lose a draft pick that could well be a contributor in your anticipated window of contention. If the Sox give a five year deal, there could not be an opt out. I am not all that interested in Moustakas anyway. He flashed Richard Hidalgo like power last season, but his career numbers don't seem to support that output being sustainable. I am more inclined to wait on Burger and see if he can be a solution rather than dumping a bunch of money and a pick on a guy that has been as inconsistent as they come. Oh I agree. It doesn't make sense. But at this point in time, that's probably the type of deal he will end up getting from someone to come out as a win for Boras.
  14. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Feb 21, 2018 -> 09:53 AM) Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN The Astros’ Forrest Whitley, one of baseball’s best pitching prospects, has been suspended 50 games without pay for a violation of the minor-league drug program. Didn't really know where to put this, so feel free to bump. He's challenging it. I'm going to assume it's for adderall if that is the case.
  15. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Feb 21, 2018 -> 09:19 AM) Yep, to have a guy like Moose batting 6th with guys like Moncada, Abreu, Jimenez, and Avi in front of him sounds fantastic... I was going to say, sticking him around that spot would be fine. I know people really get into players having a high OBP, but I think OBP matters more or less depending on what spot/area of the lineup you are talking about. If he's in a spot to drive in runs after the more important guys fail to produce some runs, hewould be fine in that spot.
  16. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Feb 20, 2018 -> 07:59 PM) If the Yankees don't want Andujar, I wouldn't mind him coming to the Sox. This move makes some sense for the DBacks and Rays, but why did the Yankees do this? So they have an option at 2B. Once Torres comes up, Drury falls back into more of Zobrist role filling in the infield and occasional OF, assuming Andujar is doing well himself. The move doesn't really impact Andujar much (at least not to open the year).
  17. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Feb 20, 2018 -> 08:11 PM) While our stadium is certainly not ugly, I don't get why I've recently seen Sox fans, both here and on Twitter, take jabs at other teams' attendance as if we're some sort of powerhouse in that arena I was going for the ugly AND empty "jab" (wasn't really intended to be that way). Like you said, at least ours isn't ugly.
  18. Florida firesale continues. It must feel like such a relief to get traded by a team that plays in an ugly empty stadium.
  19. Where's Souza playing? Platooning with Dyson and they're finally dumping Tomas?
  20. QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Feb 20, 2018 -> 03:45 PM) Look, if we can get Mous under 50 million due to draft reasons, I MIGHT be on board. But Mous is about as 'unsexy' as it gets. I do like that he is only 29 and not some 32+++, so it's not like he's super old, but he is a Boras client and that means he is likely not going to settle for a cheap deal. For that reason I say.. No, no no no no. But I have to admit, I don't think any other team out there will take on Mous. The white sox are the only team that actually makes some sense. (Yankees won't go over luxury tax and need money to spend on the deadline etc. NO reason for the Yankees to take on Mous right now). All other teams do not need Mous, except the White Sox. For that reason, I expect the White Sox to sign Mike Mous at some point relatively soon. I also think it will be a multi-year deal and I have to hope that they get him for under $50 million due to draft pick compensation talk that I hear. edit: Don't mind me, I have no understanding of draft pick compensation and $50 million number being thrown around. Read posts above me. Sox give up second round pick no matter what.
  21. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Feb 20, 2018 -> 01:52 PM) Seems like if it's Yeah the team who loses the player still gets compensation (later round like you said). We would still forfeit our second pick I believe.
  22. QUOTE (buckweaver @ Feb 20, 2018 -> 01:35 PM) I give you...Matt Davidson! Matt Davidson plays above average defense?
  23. With limited interest, it makes sense as opposed to handing out $300 mill+ next off-season with more teams involved.
  24. If the Royals were interested in Hosmer, they might as well go after Mous and sign a 1B for about the same/a little over what Hosmer got annually (and also not as long).
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 20, 2018 -> 12:41 PM) The 0.7 was in 27 games. And he really only started to hit 3 or 4 years ago. It depends what kind of a bargain he is. I wouldn't be too worried about a 2nd round pick being lost. He's definitely better than what you would expect a second rounder to be. Boras being is agent probably means the bargain cannot be met. Probably means 5 year deal with opt-out after 2 years to avoid being on the market with Machado and Donaldson and other big free agents teams will spend on.
