QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 30, 2018 -> 12:43 PM) There are many groups and individuals out there representing native peoples who have expressed problems with both the Redskins name and the Chief Wahoo. And it's about them, not me or you, so I don't really see the argument there. It's insulting, people are offended, so do the right thing. Seems pretty simple to me. Just because you can find some individuals who aren't offended isn't particularly meaningful. Many are. Like with the Redskins thing. They hired some guy who I think was a Navajo, to represent them as being OK with it, how it wasn't offensive, etc. That guy made claims his tribe was fine with the name. As it turns out that was a lie, his own tribe's council said the opposite. You're clearly misinterpreting what I'm saying if you think I'm saying, "I'm not offended so it's wrong to change it!" I'm not trying to make an argument for keeping it or anything and I'm not making it about what I believe. I'm simply saying in a hypothetical scenario if no one from that race was/is offended, should it be considered offensive? Kinda going back to what the poster above said about changing the school's name in his region where they checked with the tribe who stated they weren't offended by it at all. I would say no. Edit: I think Cleveland should come up with a new name for it's baseball team in general, especially if they can't even use the logo nor mascot. Bring back the Cleveland Spiders.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 30, 2018 -> 11:28 AM) I don't know why people think that it's only on minorities to fix racism and offensive material. I don't think the story was making the argument that they have to fix it. In his story, the people who "should have been offended" were not offended hence, making it not offensive. Yes, I'm sure people in the race are offended but if for example they all aren't offended, then why does it need to be fixed if it isn't offending the race?

2017-2018 MLB player movement rumors and reports

QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Jan 30, 2018 -> 11:24 AM) Anyone have interest in Carlos Gonzalez? It's extremely unlikely that the W'Sox or Gonzalez have any interest in each other. I'm just asking politely here. I like Gonzalez as a bounce-back candidate and on a one year small deal could be useful at the trade deadline and putting seats into stands (I know I'd be interested in following him). Although he'd take PA's from youngsters. I'm only open to adding those types of players if we can move Garcia. It is the end of January so that isn't happening. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 30, 2018 -> 09:56 AM) It is so packed after work now. I hate it. Can barely use any machines or weights until I go Sat and Sun morning. Just elliptical and stairmaster during week. I can never get to a class on time after work/dog walk, if I wanted to. I didn't/won't even attempt to use these during the week after work (definitely when I start going before work). I use the machines and weights on Sat and Sun.

Sox expecting to open '18 with both Avi and Abreu
Bob Sacamano replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 30, 2018 -> 08:54 AM) I’d go the other way, sort of. If Avi is putting up those type of numbers in this fantasy world, he’d have tremendous value in July, coming off a breakout 2017 season. With the Sox true contention window seemingly 2020 and Avi a FA after the 2019 season, I’m not seeing a lot of scenarios where an extension would be signed. And nothing would stop the Sox from signing him as a FA after they traded him, as Hahn noted at Soxfest. This. Trade him and bring in more pieces and if they decide they want him, they can sign him then. -
So last week, I started hitting the gym right after work and I started eating better (and less portions). Makes a huge difference when you leave a change of clothes and your gym shoes in your car so I can go straight from the train station. Monday-Thursday, I ran on the treadmill for about 40 minutes or until I hit 3 miles (got easier each day) and then I sat in the sauna after each run for about 15 minutes. Friday night, I played in this men's wiffle ball league which was a workout in itself. Saturday morning I went to the gym and did chest and shoulder workouts and on Sunday I did biceps and triceps. I just gotta keep this routine going haha Edit: I've also been going into the office early everyday so it especially helps that I leave work early. When I'm back on a "normal" schedule, I'll likely go to the gym in the morning right when it opens before work.

2017-2018 MLB player movement rumors and reports
Bob Sacamano replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Royals trade Brandon Moss and Ryan Buchter for Jesse Hahn and Heath Fillmyer. I think they're clearing salary to likely add Hosmer back or maybe Moustakas and 1B (if I were a Royals fan, I'd prefer that latter). If they grab another arm from somewhere and can find another productive OF, you can squint and see a scenario where they can likely finish 3rd place, but also could have some pieces to deal at the deadline depending on who they add. -

Bob Sacamano replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Hahn also talked about how players that are traded could come back if they hit free agency using Miguel Gonzalez as an example when talking about Abreu and Garcia. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 29, 2018 -> 11:23 AM) No question, but Detroit and KC are awful, and they play a lot of games against them. Anything can happen playing head to head.

Cumulus Media trying to drop White Sox/Bulls from WLS
Bob Sacamano replied to Dick Allen's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 29, 2018 -> 09:28 AM) I don't listen to the score that often but when I do I hear the white sox discussed often, maybe just good chance. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ There is a Saturday morning show about baseball. Obviously more Cubs heavy but they do talk White Sox. -

Marlins/Pirates may have violated spending rules
Bob Sacamano replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Didn't have time to check out the article, but how do you pinpoint that their spending doesn't come from a certain area of revenue? There's revenue sharing, ticket sales, network deals, concessions, etc. How can you pinpoint what area the spending is coming from? -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 28, 2018 -> 12:10 PM) Great post. I do think, however, Hahn doesn't even have to give a year he hopes to first contend. Fans of the rebuild gladly will wait. It's the part of all this I don't understand. The huge majority of fans love losing as long as it's part of a rebuild. (Continues to overlook the point of rebuilding)

2017 Offseason White Sox News, Notes, and Tweets thread

Came across an article earlier where Hahn was talking about Cordell. I guess a few teams have called the Sox to try to deal for him. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 05:16 PM) Amen. But that ship has sailed. If you want a good seat, not some ridiculous nosebleed, you will pay huge bucks. And baseball wasn't designed to be a sport for the elite. There are so many games it was supposed to be the affordable sport. Baseball and the NBA now are for the elite (if you want a good seat). Ridiculous but it won't ever change. As far as baseball players, they are screwed because of modern sabes and metrics. Now 32 is considered old and in the past baseball players easily could play til 40 and were very productive. Now the cliche is you can't sign anybody to a significant deal over 32. Lorenzo Cain is 31 and people are thrilled he's gone. Because they think he'll hit .140 as a 36 year old in his final year of contract. The players are in trouble cause they are now ancient at 30 cause of the Sabes people. Of course players can still play well into their 30s. But for the most parrt, they're declining. I'm not surprised you don't get this though. (Oops fed the troll again)

QUOTE (zisk @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 04:20 PM) I'd be cool with owners not spending on questionable free agents if they would lower prices on tickets with the savings. I always go at least once a year to a home game, but if it were a little less expensive I would definitely go more often. FWIW I'm 55 and am financially comfortable. Its got to be tough for younger less affluent people to afford a day at the park. How "younger" are you talking?

Brewers Acquire Christian Yelich & sign Lorenzo Cain
Bob Sacamano replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 02:19 PM) Bob Nightengale Verified account @BNightengale 1m1 minute ago More #Brewers GM David Stearns confirms that they have talked to Ryan Braun about the possibility of moving to first base. Thames did see time in the OF last season. Would probably move into a backup 1B/corner OF role and pinch hit. Start at 1B when Braun gets hurt. -

I could see an argument for JDM since he doesn't cost a draft pick and you'd be buying him at minimal interest, but def not Mous. -
Brewers Acquire Christian Yelich & sign Lorenzo Cain
Bob Sacamano replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 11:35 AM) I'm not sure why they needed to sign Cain. Santana is cost-controlled and a much better hitter. Yelich can handle center field and Braun ain't going anywhere with that contract. If they gave Cain a contract till he's 36 only to use Santana as trade bait, it's a bad move. Like I said above, maybe they think Cain is a better investment at $16m/yr than Arrieta or Darvish at $25m/yr over the same amount of time. -

QUOTE (reiks12 @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 11:06 AM) Not sold on this Brewers team even if they add a quality starter. I feel like they need 2. Edit: and of course, a 2B (unless Villar hits like he did in 2016, or at least in between the last 2 years), and a catcher. -
Brewers Acquire Christian Yelich & sign Lorenzo Cain
Bob Sacamano replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
They probably figured they'd rather spend the money it would take to get Cain instead of $25 mill/year on a starter. They can deal from the surplus to get a cheap, controllable, younger starter. -
Brewers Acquire Christian Yelich & sign Lorenzo Cain
Bob Sacamano replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 10:06 AM) I don’t really see why this trade is indicative of a “wait and see” approach...they basically went out and acquired Yelich and signed Cain despite having like 7 other OFs. I’m not a huge Domingo Santana guy, but the transaction costs of replacing their OF from two days ago with an OF of Cain and Yelich (is Yelich really even THAT valuable in a corner spot?) include 4 prospects so far...does anyone really expect them to get a solid return for Santana and the other OFer they are shopping? I fully understand the value of cost-controlled players for a team such as the Brewers, but it seems like they are blowing through a lot of other currency to assemble an OF that I am not certain will be all that much better than had they just signed Cain and let the other pieces fall where they might have. It almost makes you wonder if they had to acquire Yelich to convince Cain to sign... Just for the sake of pointing it out, he homered as many times as the mammoth, corner OF Avi Garcia. His defensive value definitely goes up in a corner spot, especially LF as his arm isn't great.
