August 3rd Game Thread: ChiSox at Detroit
Bob Sacamano replied to InTheDriversSeat's topic in 2016 Season in Review
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 08:51 PM) Detroit looks so much nicer in the aerial shots than if you were actually walking done their streets. Never been. I'd like to see the team play there though. Have you been to Comerica? -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 08:47 PM) I got some bad news for you... QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 08:48 PM) Yeah he was the choice. Someone would have had to get him from his hospital bed, and somehow tell the league the were only joking putting him on the DL. How does Ventura stay employed? He can't even see this obvious move Lmao -

The look on Sale's face after the game. Not sure why people think he'd take a discount to stay here. Don't see the organization changing much from now until then. -

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 07:25 PM) Why? If he can go to the plate and risk getting hit by a fastball what's the greater risk of playing 1B? This. So much this. More likely to take a fastball to the head than somehow miss a ball thrown to him. -
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 05:50 PM) If someone claims Shields, do they take on his entire contract or just the portion that the Sox owe him? No way Melky clears waivers, he is below market value asset in a constrained environment. Robertson is near market value, but with the low number of quality arms available I doubt he will make it through. Agreed. Boston and Yankees I'd think would both place a claim on Robertson so he wouldn't even make it out of AL.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 06:15 PM) This team plays some stupid baseball What happened? Didn't see. -
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 05:37 PM) Is there any sort of return-policy or take-backs on the Duke trade that we can call upon? Don't think so.
-
QUOTE (Username @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 03:28 PM) Yeah I don't see him clearing either - but the Sox have some leverage over claiming teams, because they have no real incentive to just give him away. So if he hits well this month I don't think it's impossible that he returns a decent prospect. In some ways he could actually be more valuable than most available bats, as he's basically riskless money-wise. We did trade Dunn so you never know. If he has a good month they may be able to an interesting prospect.

It's that time of year again...2016 edition

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 01:12 PM) Also, his argument is that a team shouldn't "intend to lose games". Well, obviously. No one is suggesting that Robin is telling the players to throw the games. But as a fan who has no impact on the team, I am HOPING they lose every game. Exactly. They're not going out ttrying to lose games. The results certainly make it seem like they are however. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 12:47 PM) That isnt necessarily true, every season players surprisingly sneak through and get moved. And who knows, maybe one gets claimed and the Sox are like "well, ok. Take him." Not likely, but could happen Frazier doesn't make a lot of money. He'd definitely be claimed. A contender or team looking to contend next year can place a claim.

Here's a nice source. http://www.baseballamerica.com/statistics/...ankings/majors/ -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 08:22 AM) They have a month to get these guys through waivers, it isnt over yet Frazier and Lawrie would never clear. Shields I believe would.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 09:17 AM) Big Avi fan eh? Hawk's comments about Avi yesterday were embarassing.
-
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 07:47 AM) If that was the case he would be on the White Sox now. Multiple reports said the Sox were pursuing him, and if the Dodgers wanted nothing of value in return a deal would have gotten done. There were also reports Monday saying they were not interested so I'm going with that was actually correct.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 07:43 AM) Why? 1) baseball is the only sport I follow these days and the SOX have been my favorite since I was a kid so I just don't know any other way. 2) it's f***ing baseball, man! 3) still looking forward to seeing if Frazier can eclipse 40HR. 3) the development of youngsters like Anderson, Tilsen and Saladino. 4) hoping to see Abreu rebound enough to replenish some value and traded this winter. 5) hoping to see more of Frazier at 1B. 6) having fun watching Eaton have such a good year. 7) watching Q and Sale pitch. 8) Gonzalez has been a pleasant surprise and nice story to follow. 9) hoping to see Rodon rebound some the rest of the season. 10) curious to see what happens with Fulmer the rest of the season. It's been a rough year no doubt but I'm just doing my best to enjoy what little I can because I'll be missing baseball when the season is over. Yeah all these are good reasons to tune in. I just don't really make time to watch them. If I have nothing to do and I'm home and don't feel like watching a TV show or movie or playing a videogame on a weeknight, I watch. Not how it is when a fresh season starts and you get to watch the sport you've been missing the past few months.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 07:36 AM) Price gave up another 4 runs. They'll come crawling, begging for Sale this winter watch. Sale will be a Red Sox for Monvada, Benny +++ If they decide to sell. Though I don't think selling one of them for a couple near-MLB ready position players is the signal of a teardown.

It's that time of year again...2016 edition

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 06:17 PM) That's the other thing: top 10 draft picks tend to begin their careers on top prospect lists and hold tremendous trade value, that value can skyrocket with a fast start in pro ball and they tend to hold that value longer partly due to how high they were drafted (a guy like Mark Appel.) Another good point. -
If he goes on dl, bring up Shuck and Leury. This bench needs depth to the point Avi never has to play outfield again. Send down a bum ass reliever.
-
QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 07:10 PM) Except for people at the beginning of the year who hated the Rollins signing right off the bat, and wanted Mr. 633 OPS as our starting SS. I believe more for defense than anything.
-
QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 05:50 PM) If Sox don't believe that Fulmer is ready to join the rotation next season, they should keep Shields for another year and hope for the best. If not, there's no reason for Shields to be on the roster. Agreed. And I don't think he's ready. So keep the rotation intact unless you decide to rebuild. Or trade Shields or Gonzalez and sign another 5th starter.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 06:46 PM) Nice contact for the base hit. Good to see Miggy congratulate him. He really matured well. I don't think anyone has more fun playing the game than Miggy.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 04:16 PM) Problem is, no one besides Shields is going to clear waivers on this team. Yeah he's the only one I'd expect.
-
QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 03:37 PM) The Sox would have to send cash to a trading partner for Shields. I don't see that happening. If it's money coming from the Padres, I don't think it matters.
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 02:41 PM) Melky and Robertson dont have a chance to clear waivers. But they should make it to a contender you could maybe work something out with. Would be wise to monitor injuries and perhaps delay putting them through. Shields will 200% clear. Hes the only chip here. Doesn't make a difference when you put them on. Once they're cleared, you can negotiate with anyone. And if you can always take guys back and put them back through if they're claimed anyway.

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 03:37 PM) Do you think it makes a difference to win 76 games and miss the playoffs, or win 70 games and miss the playoffs? This. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 03:38 PM) The higher the draft pick the larger the bonus pool, that's reason enough for me, having more money to spend is HUGELY important. And this.
