  1. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 11:16 AM) The Astros can have Fister and his 86mph fasball. No thank you to Fister. Why was his velocity so bad last year? Was he injured or something? If he has arm problems that I don't know about, then I'm happy that the Sox passed up on him.
  2. I would've liked to have seen him come to the Sox, especially on a 1 year deal. Oh well.
  3. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 11:03 AM) Jackson is another name I'm not against although he provides the least offensive upgrade of the three. Jackson does have three things going for him though 1) cheapest salary of the three 2) best defense of the three 3) won't cost prospects or a comp pick to sign. I would be fine with any of those three but as of right now, my order of preference would be Fowler, Ethier, Jackson. I will admit this, my mind can change directions like the wind so that order is subject to change at any given time. I can see good points for all three and that's why I kind of bounce back and forth on those three and even Desmond. Glad I'm not Rick Hahn, lol. I agree with this. I think the best options for the Sox are either Fowler + Latos, Desmond + Jackson, or Jackson + Latos. At this point, I think I'd be ok with any of those 3 scenarios.
  4. QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 10:55 AM) Doug Padilla is moving back to LA to cover the Dodgers. Looks like ESPNChicago is hurting, think they are only going to do general Sox updates, not have anyone on the actual Sox beat. I didn't like Padilla anyway. He's like Merkin honestly...just a bunch of lip service that isn't meaningful at all.
  5. Sale is a LOCK to leave when his contract is over. The Sox will never pay him what he'll be worth. I'm just enjoying him now, because I know he'll be gone in a few years.
  6. If Harper is projected to get 14/407, what do you guys think that Trout will get? 16/500?
  7. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 09:40 PM) BLOW IT UP. 5-0 losses are UNACCEPTABLE. Package Kane and Panarin for Carlos Gonzalez. I love you.
  8. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 27, 2016 -> 11:14 AM) You kind of make my point by bringing Alexei into the discussion. Alexei's RngR and UZR are considerably worse than Desmond's so less errors are going to happen when a player cannot get to as many balls in play. Desmond had 9 throwing errors last season and Alexei had 10. I think Desmond's capability of getting to more balls in play than Alexei led to some additional errors made by Desmond, at least to some extent. I'm not saying Desmond is a good SS but I'm not saying he isn't bad either. His defensive numbers are just plain weird to me. I'm definitely up for the idea of Ethier since upgrading the OF is a bigger necessity than SS. Jay Bruce on the other hand comes with the same question marks as Desmond so I can't see how someone would be against Desmond and yet be fine with Bruce. Bruce took a few steps back last year defensively, much like Desmond. I want absolutely nothing to do with Ethier. old + expensive = bad
  9. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 27, 2016 -> 11:12 AM) Projected numbers: Sale: 2.99 ERA Quintana: 3.73 ERA Rodon: 3.81 ERA Johnson: 4.70 ERA Danks: 4.88 ERA Beck: 5.38 ERA Carroll: 5.35 ERA Turner: 5.98 ERA Frazier: .255/.318/.449 Eaton: .277/.352/.400 Abreu: .285/.352/.505 Lawrie: .255/.310/.406 Saladino: .232/.290/.347 Navarro: .259/.314/.385 Avila: .203/.321/.336 Melky: .281/.325/.403 LaRoche: .226/.317/.401 Garcia: .265/.311/.394 Anderson: .257/.283/.369 Those ERA projections for Quintana and Rodon are laughable.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 27, 2016 -> 11:06 AM) Daryl Van Schouwen ‏@CST_soxvan 13s13 seconds ago Jason Benetti and Steve Stone will work all 10 spring training TV games for #whitesox. NOOOOO!!!!!! Where's Hawk going to be?
  11. Would you guys rather: - Give up prospects for Dickerson - Give up the draft pick and $$$ for Fowler For me, it's a hard question that I don't know the answer to.
  12. Trade Erik Johnson for Dickerson and sign Latos. Problem solved.
  13. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 08:03 AM) I'd take our rotation over the Cubs' any day... This, especially if Fulmer replaces Danks at some point in the near future.
  14. When Cespedes inevitably opts out and becomes a free agent next offseason, can we keep the discussion in this thread as well? It would be awesome if we could get this thread to 10,000 posts or more.
  15. My personal list: 1. Kershaw 2. Sale 3. Greinke 4. Price 5. Scherzer 6. Keuchel 7. Arrieta 8. Bumgarner 9. Hernandez 10. Kluber
  16. I laugh when I see people putting Arrieta ahead of Sale.
  17. lol at the guy that thinks that Gray is WAY more valuable than Sale. He might have slightly more value, but it's close.
  18. Would anyone else care to share an opinion as to how I can improve my team?
  19. Here's my plan. - Trade Avi and Tyler Danish for Carlos Gomez - Sign Ian Desmond to a 3 year/$45 million deal Lineup: 1. Adam Eaton (RF) 2. Carlos Gomez (CF) 3. Jose Abreu (1B) 4. Todd Frazier (3B) 5. Melky Cabrera (LF) 6. Ian Desmond (SS) 7. Adam LaRoche (DH) 8. Brett Lawrie (2B) 9. Alex Avila/Dioner Navarro © Thoughts? That lineup seems pretty well rounded from top to bottom IMO.
  20. As the Mets have signed Cespedes, their outfield is crowded. They have Cespedes, Granderson, Conforto, De Aza, Lagares, and Nimmo all either on the big league roster or close to it. As there's only room for 3 of them to start consistently, I'd have to imagine that they'd be open to moving at least one of them. That brings us to Lagares. He is elite defensively, is signed to a pretty team friendly deal through 2020, and is only 26 years old. He had a down season last year, but is only a season removed from a 5.5 WAR campaign. How would you guys feel about the Sox going after this guy? Obviously he isn't anything special with the bat, but the Sox could really use his defense in center and he would make it possible to shift Eaton to a corner. I don't know what the Mets would want for him either, but the two sides could most likely make something work. Hopefully, we can make a nice little discussion thread here. Thanks.
  21. I'm kind of warming up to the idea of Desmond. Say they sign him and Jackson. Eaton Melky Abreu Frazier Desmond LaRoche Lawrie Jackson Avila/Navarro That isn't perfect, but it's not terrible either.
  22. What is with all the fascination with Ian Desmond on here? He is the type of player that the Sox should be avoiding.
  23. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 10:37 PM) If the Sox really wanted to, I think they can get Desmond & Fowler for under 27.5 million for 2016. ...while giving up 2 draft picks in the process. Hell no to that idea.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 10:10 PM) Frazier, Lowry, the catchers, and the season hasn't started yet. I was referring to strictly outfielders. Frazier and Lawrie are nice but I don't know if this team is good enough even with them.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 10:07 PM) Here comes the meltdown I am not melting down. Please don't put words in my mouth. It's just annoying how the Royals and Tigers upgraded and the Sox got absolutely no one. But that's how it always is so I'm not surprised.
