If The Sox Moved
I would be heartbroken if the Sox left Chicago, but they'd be my #1 team regardless of where they played.

Orioles DO NOT Sign Fowler
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 8, 2016 -> 08:56 AM) Not signing Fowler isn't a matter of budget constraints. It's a matter of "worth". The White Sox think that Fowler + forfeiture of top 30 draft pick is worth X amount. Fowler and his people don't agree, therefore Fowler isn't signed. That's all this is. The White Sox should not offer more than they are willing to offer just because fans are angry that they haven't done anything. 100% agreed. I'll admit, I've been a vocal critic of the Sox not doing anything to improve the outfield situation. However, if the Sox front office made decisions solely on what the fans wanted, this franchise would be a disaster.

I just created an account. Condor, if you had to guess, when you do you think the draft will start?

If you guys had to guess, when does Fowler make his decision? I'd have to imagine that it would be relatively soon as Spring Training is right around the corner.

white sox looking at more rotation depth
Bruce Levine is a f***ing moron. How is this clown a "baseball insider" if he can't even spell half of the players names right?

QUOTE (Condor13 @ Feb 5, 2016 -> 03:21 PM) I still need a playing card from ChrisLikesBaseball and Joshua Strong. How are everyone's feeling about the "offline draft"? If everyone will be pretty active and online fairly often I would love to do this idea. If everyone likes this idea I will set up a free forum where we can have the draft and discuss the league etc. On a side note, I think the idea of everyone putting $5 in a "pot" to send the winner is a great idea. I will not make it mandatory though. The league will remain free with a "pot" on the side. The "pot" will go to the person who finishes the highest out of those who put into the "pot". Ideally I'd like at least 3 more people (not counting BigHurt3515). Why couldn't we do the draft in this thread? It seems easiest to do it that way. I also love the money idea. Even if 12 people throw in just $5 apiece, that's a decent chunk of change for the winner. We could also give a little to the person that finishes in 2nd as well. Maybe $40 for first place and $20 for second.

Ideally, it would be nice to get 1 more team so that we have 8 total, but this thing is filling up fast. I'd love to do the draft offline.

Orioles DO NOT Sign Fowler
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 5, 2016 -> 10:55 AM) Fowler in CF, Heyward in RF, Schwarber/Soler in LF. The Cubs have said they will continue to get Schwarber reps at catcher which would give Soler more at bats in LF. Do you think the Cubs would platoon Schwarber and Soler? That seems kind of counter-productive to me.

Manziel is a freaking nutjob and I have no sympathy for him at all. He had everything given to him on a silver platter and he threw it away.

If Fowler wanted a deal exactly like what Melky got last year, would you guys be ok with the Sox signing him?

Merkin Suggests Sox go after Puig
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 5, 2016 -> 07:42 AM) This was posted in the Ethier thread too but it's interesting: http://www.latimes.com/sports/dodgers/la-s...0204-story.html White Sox called the Dodgers to express interest in Puig and Los Angeles tried to give them Crawford/Ethier instead. The White Sox have always been interested in Puig so it's not surprising. No real talks between the teams for Ethier it seems. If Hahn and Friedman are actually friends like some posts here have hinted to, this leak makes so much more sense. Obviously, the Sox want an outfielder. By the Dodgers leaking that the Sox are involved in trade talks, perhaps that could make Fowler and his agent squirm and finally make a decision as to whether the Sox are the right landing spot for him.

Sox should trade for Andre Ethier
QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Feb 4, 2016 -> 07:07 PM) Ken Rosenthal on MLB Network reporting that the White Sox interest in Andre Ethier is "overstated". Also noted that they are "likely" to add a starting OF'er before the start of ST. YES! YES!! YES!!! YES!!!!

I'm really happy to see that we have 6 members already! Preferably, I'd like to get as least 2 more people for a total of 8, but I suppose 6 people is enough if it came down to it. It's not a big deal, but I also think it would be nice if each of us put $5 or $10 upfront to send to the winner after each season. I feel like a money prize would be a nice reward and would keep more people interested.

2016 is the 25th anniversary of "New Comiskey Park" or USCF
To this day, I don't understand why they didn't build the Cell with the Chicago skyline in the background.

Merkin Suggests Sox go after Puig
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 4, 2016 -> 11:32 AM) IDK, worked for Gio in the past. I'm just trying to think of a player the Dodgers might be willing to part with that the Sox could get in return with Crawford, not that I want Crawford. In the end, it just doesn't sound like the Dodgers and Sox match up for any kind of trade. Maybe if the Sox were willing to put Robertson on the trade table but I doubt the SOX do that. Trading DRob would make no sense considering the position that the Sox are in. If the Sox intend to compete, DRob is a quality closer that is needed during a pennant chase. If they traded him, who would close? Jones? I have very little confidence in his abilites as a closer.

Merkin Suggests Sox go after Puig
Here's an outside the box idea: Carl Crawford + $30 million for Daniel Webb. The Sox would essentially get Crawford on a 2 year/$12 million deal, which isn't too bad. Then they could use the extra money towards a pitcher.

If Puig requires the Sox to give up Quintana, I hope Hahn is smart enough to hang up the phone right then and there.

I don't mean to sound like a tool, but is there any legit proof that this guy is really 16?

Merkin Suggests Sox go after Puig
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 4, 2016 -> 08:19 AM) When I was reading through the Eithier thread. I started thinking how a blockbuster trade between the Dodgers and White Sox might work and it centered around Q but thinking of it made my brain hurt. I thought of reasonable Dodger targets (meaning no Seager). Pederson. Puig, Montas, Thompson any of their starters not named Kershaw. They have depth but not a lot of quality and a few oft injured guys . I figured it could be done but I don't get paid to figure this s*** out, Hahn does ,so let his brain hurt. Quintana for Pederson, Urias and Montas .Is that a big enough "small army" for Q ? Or we csan take Eithier instead but then we get another prospect. The Dodgers would never do that deal.

Sox should trade for Andre Ethier
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 3, 2016 -> 12:08 PM) If the Sox signed Fowler, then maybe Shuck doesn't make the final roster, though I doubt it. Sands is on the outside looking in for an injury or something big happening. Agreed. Unless Sands absolutely RAKES in Spring Training, I'd have to guess that he's AAA fodder for now. Fowler is just really appealing to me because he has a very good OBP and putting him behind Eaton and in front of Abreu could do wonders for the lineup as a whole.
-

Even if the Sox signed Fowler, the outfield would be overcrowded. Obviously him, Melky, and Eaton are guaranteed spots, but beyond that, you have Shuck, Avi, and Sands all fighting for the 4th outfielder role. Personally, I'd like the Sox to sign Fowler. Then Fowler, Melky, Eaton, and Shuck would be the outfielders on the big league team and Avi and Sands would be in Charlotte to start the year.
