3/11 - Sox @ Padres, 3:10 CDT - spring training
Dude, he will be 22 years old on April 16, 2025. It doesn't matter that he was playing for a college team last year. He's old enough to make a bid for the major leagues next season (his age 23 year) and maybe even as a Sept call-up.

I don't have MLBTV so I just checked in with the gameday live website. I wonder how that throw from Braden Montgomery looked. Braden is the child prodigy....was in high school last year..

Passan address current challenges with TB/A's stadium situations, cites Sox and Royals predicaments
The perception you refer to was justified and was rooted in the sight of the Robert Taylor Homes from the expressway. That hi-rise project (and Cabrini Green) have since been demolished and at least to some extent been replaced with affordable low rise housing around the city. Bridgeport though is not and never has been a bad neighborhood.

Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox
Rate stadium, parking areas, ChiSox bar and grill, merchandise stores, concessions, etc, are a goldmine for the Sox and a money maker for taxpayers/ISFA. Sox just need to field a competitive/ interesting team that is fun to watch. Added ticket sales and viewership will follow. Look at how the Bulls have increased fan interest by assembling a young team that is starting to compete. If you watched their last two wins in Florida you know what I am talking about. No they are not going to win a championship any time soon, but their likeable young players are fun to watch. That is what we need on the South side and it has been a looooong time since we had that.

Moving forward extending a lease does not mean extending the original terms of the lease. That is what the Sox and the ISFA are likely to do....enter a new Lease that is fair - one that benefits the franchise and provides revenue for the taxpayers.

It is always hard to sell out the 500 level there. They are bad seats too far from the field and too high.

Opening Day 26-Man Roster
HR power obviously is an important criteria in selecting players for the final roster. My preference would be to sacrifice some OBP and even a bit of Defense with a few big guys in there (Drury, Ramos) to get a few more bombs. Not Joey Gallo though. I think that Lee should be shopped. Anyone looking for catchers out there? Sox don't need him and Teel is already a lot better, IMO.

Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox
Yeah who cares who will own and lead this franchise this season. I'm sure the GM and Manager don't wonder or care who they might be working for or whether they will be soon be terminated, and of course, most fans could care less, which is why dozens of posts speculating about this have accumulated here. Try another line of personal attack that isn't so transparent and maybe adds something to the content here. LMAO.

Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox
Yes, that would work plus JR's relinquishment of his chairmanship to the majority owner. No problem with Cap Gains or anything else for JR. I just wanted to know why this deal hasn't happened yet and why all the secrecy? As I said previously, the uncertainty does not help the team and is creating some unnecessary confusion for fans. Finalize this one way or another before the Opener.

Dude, he doesn't have to sell during his lifetime.

Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox
Some (including myself) did not understand that Jerry has a minority stake, reportedly around 20%. Therefore, he could choose to keep his 20% stake after a sale and avoid capital gains. This needed to be clarified because some posters had felt that capital gains taxes were a reason that JR might be waiting to sell until he passes. That said, JR is Chairman of the Board and has certain powers in that role including evaluating potential offers on behalf of existing shareholders.

Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox
I was asking for a tax accountant or someone knowledgeable in this field to explain this but I guess you can't be stopped.

Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox
If Reinsdorf has only 25% of the shares then Capital gains is not an issue since he can keep that until he passes away. That is part of what I was asking in my prior post since some have raised CG as a reason JR is hanging on to his shares.. I am not confident that any new owner, including Ishbia, will blow a billion dollars on a new stadium in Chicago, especially without owning a good piece of land and having reasonable real estate taxes. That's probably why the Bears are likely headed to Arlington Heights.

Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox
Perhaps a tax accountant can explain the potential capital gains ramifications of a sale prior to death for JR. For example, if Jerry maintains up to 49.9% of shares (a non-controlling share of the corporation) after a sale, wouldn't that minimize the potential capital gains issue for him ? We know he doesn't own 100%. Like a few others, I am wondering why this deal isn't being done now. Then there is this. Ishbias have a combined wealth that is insane...somewhere North of 10 Million dollars. Justin purchased a minority share a few years ago. What is he waiting for since then...is it that he is waiting for the value of the franchise to continue to go down as the WSox continue to struggle in order to "buy low"? If Reinsdorfs came to him, as the above post indicates, what is stopping Ishbia and his billions from getting this done now ? Also, why all the secrecy? Ishbia wants to buy it and he has more than enough money. Finally, it seems like uncertainty injected by this saga is not helping the organization and is only confusing fans.

Maybe launch Ethan Katz.

ST: Battle for 29th place
Just like last season, our starting pitchers get hammered early. That tends to demoralize the team and make the game less competitive and watchable for fans. As Yogi said, "it's like deja vu all over again" . Sox can't hit either this year.

Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox
Not sure how the 78 subsurface conditions (not soil...lol) came up but yea, digging half way to hell would likely be required. Look, the 78 thing is dead and no, Ishbia is not stupid enough to sign a lease there like UIC did before they bucked out. In fact, a new owner might not even sign a lease with ISFA and instead choose to move the franchise. Time will tell.

I don't care what the outcome is at this point, I really don't. But be careful what you wish for my friend.

Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox
I think Justin bid on the Twins while he was building Mara-lago-Chicago. I'd bet he loves Winnetka's North shore more than the South side of Chicago. But who knows what anyone's long term intentions are? Nevertheless, the old axiom that money talks may apply, especially to a billionaire corporate raider. I agree with Reinsdorf on one (and only one) thing - The White Sox are worth more out of town than they will ever be worth here. No amount of money can change the dynamic here with the Cubs as the dominant baseball franchise in town. Ishbia knows that which is one reason that he may seek greener pastures.

Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox
My concern is that Ishbia will be a short term owner, a private equity investor who improves the value of the franchise and then flips and maybe relocates the team. In some sense, that is what he does for a living.
-
Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox
I am wary of a private equity investor who lays in wait for years holding a minority stake rather than simply making a public overture to purchase the team outright, or alternatively, explain what his game is here. At some point perhaps Hobson/George Lucas decide to combine shares with Michael Reinsdorf and just box him out. That would be beating Ishbia at his own game.
