  1. The name of the game in the mlb now is home runs. Teams routinely sacrifice some D in LF for power. Eloy is fast and gets to balls other players cannot. His height and a long reach helped him snag that ball on Opening Day which aided the victory. fans in the LF stands reacted and he acknowledged them with a tip of the hat and that smile. He also beat out a throw avoiding a DP which allowed the winning run to score. I go to games and evaluate players based on what I see. I don't buy into screeds like "he's a DH playing LF, is a danger to everyone around him.." I have never heard of roster decisions based on fear of injury. Almost every player will sustain some injury over the course of ST plus 162 games. Engel, Robert, Yasmani, Moncada, TA, Burger....all have had injuries (inc some serious ones) over the past few years. Anyway, speaking only for myself, I enjoy going to WSox games and seeing all the players in person, including Eloy . Again, IMO , I think he adds a lot to the fan experience with his personality and his performance on the field. I like the "Hi mom!" and his interactions with fans. His positive attitude is contagious. That is always a good thing in any field of endeavor.
  2. I like Burger/Sheets DH platoon with Burger used in spots as a back-up at 2B and 3B
  3. Any credit go to TLR......ever?
  4. Eloy is a generational hitter. He is a stud - his body looks like LeBron's , about 6'4" solid muscle. Vaughn will; be a good hitter but IMO, he will never generate the power numbers that Eloy will. Vaughn and Burger are arguably the same type of player, lthough I think Vaughn may hit for better average while Burger seems to have more of a home run cut and possibly more power. . I like them both, but please, neither one is on par with Eloy. I sense some people do not like Eloy for other reasons, but I am not sure what those reasons might be. Eloy is the heart and soul of this team. Eloy makes people smile and laugh and makes the game fun to watch. It's an added dimension to his game that other players just don't have.
  5. Jake hit a 430 ft. bomb in cold weather. He is carrying himself like a pro and taking his job seriously. Let's see his game play out a bit more before making further judgments about him. For example, I could definitely see getting rid of Leury or Harrison and keeping Burger on the roster if he keeps this up. Jake's D has been surprising to me. I thought he was not going to be as mobile as he has been after his Achilles injuries. HRs win games and Jake's blast against a pretty good pitcher probably won that game for the Sox.
  6. Eloy looked to be in pain as he hopped away. I hope there isn't a broken bone in his foot but that did not look good.
  7. IMO, it is best to see Vaughn or any prospect prove himself over time. That is all I am suggesting. Vaughn has not done that yet. He hit .235 with 15 HR last season. That was not a small sample size. In addition, scouting caught up with him toward the end of the year. Vaughn is also a veritable tank, short wide and slow in the field. Sheets or Eloy are much faster than Vaughn Vaughn is probably a DH on most teams Sheets hasn't proven much yet either, but from what I have seen in person, he has the type of powerful LH swing that could produce a lot of key HR for the Sox. Vaughn seems like surplusage at this point for the Sox , a team that has plenty of RH power and Abreu firml;y in command at first base for a few more years. Another consideration with a trade is the player's wishes. Vaughn is a Left coaster who misses his old friends and family and might love playing for Oakland, which is close to home for him.
  8. I would not include Sheets in any package for Montas. Sheets looked to be in great shape (from my perspective in RF yesterday) and seemed faster than he was last season as he tracked down a couple of fly balls including some that he had to run down a long way. Sheets doeskin get the hype that Vaughn does but he could end up being just as valuable to this team.

I never said Vaughn can't hit. I said he hit .235 and will be given the opportunity to prove himself this year ....before people equate him with the likes of.... Ohtani.. LOL at Steve Stone. I also posted links to several dives he took last season ...before the one where he almost injured himself in ST. That's the one that may have cause Hahn to pull the trigger on the trade for AJP. I'll be at the game tomorrow with my boys. Want to meet up?

I'll have some at the Opener tomorrow on my hot dog.

Great hitting but realistically, Detroit pitching was pretty awful . They hung a lot of pitches. Hope the hitting is contagious and it continues tomorrow at the Opener,.

AJ Hinch is having a bad series. Dude has made some terrible decisions in just two games, including letting a weak left handed pitcher face Vaughn in that situation. And leaving Casey Mize in to face Grandal. LOL. . 408 feet. 104.1 mph exit velocity Love the bat drop Maybe Hinch isn't much of a manager without help from cheaters. Love the HRs. don't stop now boys.
  13. Hahn doubling down on Kimbrel for 16 Mil is even more maddening when considering what Rodon could have meant to our rotation.
  14. Opinions from fans about baseball rank up there with genocide? Give me a fukin break bud.
  15. I can't believe I am saying this after one game but I think I would rather have Leury at 2B than Harrison. Leury has a gun for an arm and that helps turn double plays. Maybe not unthinkable to explore possibilities by starting Burger at 2B for a few games with Leury at 3B until Yoan comes back. I was really impressed with Burger's composure at 3B as he handled the routine plays easily.
  16. Eloy or Vaughn would have had that ball. Pollock was too nonchalant given the situation. You have to look that ball into your glove and put the game away.
  17. I liked AJ Hinch decision allowing a lefty to face Vaughn with the game on the line. He grooved him.
  18. Vaughn has to stop diving. Burger looks so good at the plate. Maybe he takes the Vaughers RH DH spot when Moncada comes back.
  19. Stone on Eloy : "He's gotta stop diving in LF" LOL. Stoney picking right up where he left off last season. Meanwhile Eloy 1- Tigers 0.
  20. Burger can hit but, IMO, he doe not have the footwork nd balance to play third on a regular basis. Having said that, that I think Jake will be fine for a few weeks until Yoan returns. Great opportunity for Burger though and it is exciting to see him get it. I hope Moncada returns soon though because we need his D and his LH bat.
  21. Austin Meadows goes 2/4 with a HR. Eloy and Robert also homer and Sox win 6-4.
  22. I would have been OK with Cody Bellinger, instead of AJP for probably less than 10+5. Frankly, if the just got a team to take over Kimbrel's 16 Mil salary that would have been a positive outcome. . Consider if AJP spends 50+ games on the DL the Sox can still buy him out for another 5Mil. That's 15Mill for an POFer on a team that has a boatload of them. Frankly at the end of the day ptatc was right about the priorities being misplaced. Maybe Vaughn's lawn dart dive sealed the deal with Hahn. Never forget some posters here lwere all in on the original trade for Kimbrel. Terrible trades can weigh down a team with older or under-performing players and bloated contracts .Rule #1 - Don;t trade young #1prospect for an old Closer in decline. Rule #2. Don't make stupid trades with the Cubs.
  23. LaRussa was right about the Sox having guys who could play RF , at least at what they call serviceable standards. Like Tony or not, he was probably right. Meanwhile, Hahn, with a boatload of outfield types on board, cashes in his 16 MIl. Kimbrel chip to get another one. Realistically, there is no "window" to win "multiple championships" when you don't have a deep and solid starting staff. There are some talented pitchers like Kopech and even ReyLo, but they are not guys who can be counted on to start all year. Keuchel has looked lost after umpires startled checking for foreign substances. Another problem with a weak rotation is the potential burn-out of bullpen arms who have to cover more innings than expected.
  24. So much so that Vaughn, Sheets and Burger might get buried under it.
