If the White Sox can stick around the top of the standings for a few more months and then Eloy and Robert magically come back ahead of schedule, they would be a formidable play-off team.

St Louis Manager needs a new translator that can tell him when he needs to change pitchers.

Considering the large first baseman's gloves and so many close plays at first this is a good question. On "bang-bang" plays the ump sometimes listens for the sound of the ball hitting the glove while looking at the base to see when contact was made. If you couple that with the rule that clear video evidence is needed to overturn a call on the field it still leaves some wiggle room. Back in the day, "tie goes to the runner" was a gentlemanly way that these close plays got resolved. Now we need frame by frame analysis by off-site experts in NY.

As we know, Hendriks has been disappointing at times and so has Bummer and most of the rest of the pen for that matter. Even Cody Heuer has had some rough outings. Not sure where Hahn can go in terms of potential acquisitions/trades to bolster the pen at this point but I am sure he is thinking about it. Hopefully Katz can help each of them improve or at least become less predictable with what they throw in any count or situation. Obviously walking people in critical situations doesn't work and we have seen that all too often.

He didn't start anything. Yermin did and those who dislike/hate LaRussa have prolonged it ad nauseum. Plenty of ageism mixed in with outrageous accusations that Tony is suffering from Dementia. Nice. Jason Benetti continues to rub salt into the wound and continues his off handed and often unjustified criticisms of LaRussa. He may want to check to see how that kind of schtick worked out for Harry Carey after Reinsdorf purchased the White Sox. Maybe Benetti should bring his opinion about LaRussa as Manger into the open instead of playing games with it. Unwritten rules may be different elsewhere around the league but for the White Sox, Tony has made it clear that players have to obey take signs and directions from their Manager. Tony sets the rules for the players as long as he is Manager and has the support of the Owner. He does. End of discussion. Mercedes will obey signs and directions and if he shows up late for another game, there will be additional fines or punishment. I know Ronnie Kittle as I am sure some of you do. As a rookie in '83, he would never have even considered disobeying a sign and showboating. Ask him if you want to verify that. And ask Fisk or Hawk while you are at it. I bet they would agree with Ron. Oh well maybe way back in '83, that was old school - follow directions from your Manager, show up for games on time. keep the gold necklaces inside your jersey, and maintain some degree of humility , especially as a rookie. Pro athlete should set an example for young kids who play the game. Sportsmanship isn't a rule, but it has been a thing for a few thousand years.

I watched s replay of Vaughn's diving catch. Very nice effort indeed by the young man but in all honesty, he wasn't airborne very long before gravity ended his flight. A better effort though than Avi Garciai's infamous human lawn dart dive when he injured himself. Be careful out there Andrew.

I watched the video of Mercedes ignoring the take sign and loading up to hit the home run. This is a guy who just came into fame and fortune and decided to showboat. And yes, IMO, multiple gold necklaces worn on the field by a baseball player look trashy to me. Someone has to take the garbage out.

A lot of us may have overrated our team...or underrated the losses of Eloy and Robert, the loss of McCann (given the offensive numbers that Collins and Grandall have been putting up) and maybe we over-rated our bullpen. OK LaRussa, LaRussa LaRussa, but maybe we just aren't what some of us thought we were - a top tier team .
-
DA: I encourage you to look at the video of Mercedes glancing down to the third base coach for a sign, seemingly ignoring it or blowing it off, and loading up for the meaningless HR already while up 11 runs at the end of the game. He pimped it a bit and all the gold necklaces jangling around his neck as he rounded the bases didn't take away from that perception. Forget what you think about LaRussa for a minute (and it has already been discussed ad nauseum) wouldn't it serve Mercedes better as a rookie to be a little more low key, more respectful and a bit humble? Or maybe that is another old school, unwritten rule that doesn't matter either.
-
Throwing a guy out at home instead of going to first is a standard play for a third basemen. It is is not comparable to what Mercedes did . Not even close. Benetti went there though. I wonder if JR is listening to that garbage.

Benetti is a stroke.

Somebody has to take out the garbage.

Vaughn might be the most overrated rookie on the Sox since Brian Anderson. Soon he might be hitting below the Mendoza line as someone pointed out. Most of our players do not have respectable batting averages. Collins and Grandal? Leury, Hamilton, Eaton, Lamb, Mendick.. LOB is a joke for some guys who you would expect to be knocking in key runs. OBP is OK for say Grandal, but you have to hit if you want to compete for a championship and you need a lot of home runs. w/o Eloy and Robert and a reliable bullpen, this is beginning to look like a middle of the road team that has boosted its current W/L record against sub .500 teams.

If Hendriks held them in the 9th, who pitches for the Sox in the 10th with a ghost runner at second, nobody out? Hendriks again? You can question every decision you want. The Sox just got beat in a close game that could have gone either way. Vaughn hitting into the triple play was brutal. It is what it is. Try to beat Cole tomorrow.
-
What if Tony put in Liam and he pitched a 35 pitch inning before giving up the winning run ? Hasn't Hendriks been lit up late, including home runs to RF ? You can Monday morning quarterback every decision. That doesn't make you smarter than any major league Manager.

Maybe not being in First place?
-
Did you watch the triple play?
-
You wanted to bring him in a tie game with day games tomorrow and Sunday? It was a possibility but still no guarantee. Marshall has been rather bad and I was disappointed in the home run off Kopech. I did not like the fastball i.by Michael in that situation. Oh well, very well played and managed ballgame by both teams. Vaughn's triple play and Marshall's 9th inning costs us the ballgame.
-
How did the Sox get Hamilton to second with no outs?
-
He was out. Fucking Vaughn.
-
That triple play was a game-changing nut buster. Vaughn has been in a slump and is probably the slowest player on the team. I think Vaughn should have been pinch hit for by anyone who could have bunted. Second and third with one out instead of a triple play and out of the inning.
-
Your calling a guy a liar for stating the truth - it was a great game.
-
Yea, hitting into the double play would have been bad enough.
-
Great game but it sucks if we lose it.
