MLB scouts analyzed Mercedess at-bats and have provided pitchers with a template to counter his approach - both his leg raising 16" softball swing or his protection swing with two strikes. Both of Yermin's swings/approaches provide pitchers with options to get a swing and miss from him. Back to the drawing board for Yermin to counter those scouting reports with a modified approach. Not sure what that might be but one obvious option would be to try to hit off-speed pitches and outside pitches to the opposite field (instead of lifting his leg and trying to pull everything until he is down 2 strikes). From what I can gather from watching his ABs his head is also pulling off the ball as he swings, which sometimes indicates that a hitter is trying too hard to pull the ball. -
Classy moves by Carlos Rodon and Jerry Reinsdorf
tray replied to South Side Hit Men's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Sinister, ulterior motives? Really? That is really cray-cray. The entire narrative that "Jerry won't spend the money on player contracts to build a winner" is predicated on the assumption that there is a 1:1 correlation between player salary and winning percentage. It also presumes that other teams won't simply match price and in turn, cause salary inflation which could reduce the profitability and viability of the weaker franchises. There has to be a balance to make things work for the league. Anyway, commemorating outstanding player performances (including no-hitters) with a ring has been a tradition that Jerry established at least as far back as Humber's perfect game. Giolito and McCann got rings for Gio's perfect game. How about Cub Curmudgeon Joe Ricketts and bis overt support of certain extremely divisive politicians ? -
I agree. My personal preference would be to end games that are tied after 9 innings (or 7 for DH games) by recognizing a tie in the standings. I understand that a lot of fans want to see a resolution of every game, but I prefer a tie than the ridiculous 10th inning ghost runner rule or watching prolonged extra inning games. Play 9 inning single games or a double header with two 7 inning games, and that is it.

You can complain about EVERY decision in every loss. If this decision was made, perhaps there may have been a different outcome. So what? At this point, the LaRussa trolls have become predictable and their 20/20 hindsight is more than lame. This is a winning team with a winning Manager. Go ahead, complain the rest of the season. JR doesn't care and neither do most Sox fans....especially if we keep winning and are in or around first when the big boys come back in August. I guess some people have made this a cause and almost a hobby, but it only amounts to useless time wasted making oneself miserable. Carry on.

DA: This was clipped after the Count was 3-0. Watch the video. He actually looked for a sign before pitcher threw at 1-0, 2-0 and 3-0. Any question about that? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdaDRW2NT5w "Take Take Take" was inserted by me, because that could not be heard on the video link, but there is no question that was what happened. I probably could have inserted what Mercedes likely thought..."yea. eff you, thanks for busting me for showing up late for a game this week, you know what, I'm swinging, this is my game" Sorry you have fallen into this camp of LaRussa haters Dick. I say the same thing to some relatives about their politics. Love 'em, but sometimes I just don't get where they are coming from. Know what I mean?

No. just responding to hundreds of posts, including the false narrative that Mercedes did not get a take sign on 3-0. (The frame shows 2-0 because it was not updated after the 2-0 pitch Then there was LoungeGate also filled with false information and angry critics.

Sox won 5 of the last 6 games. This kind of mean-spirited garbage is not helpful as the team and the fan base is attempting to gain some momentum.

The so-called "analysis" typically consists of questioning line-ups or in-game decisions in hindsight - the easiest and cheapest form of criticism. So, if he did this, then maybe that would have happened.. Of course, maybe something worse would have happened or maybe nothing different at all. And probably, other considerations that these Monday morning q-backs do not have knowledge of were involved. As far as criticisms of other Managers, historically that happens to managers of losing teams or it comes from fans of rival teams, like Cub fans who always try to throw some shade at the White Sox and their fans.

And that’s ANOTHER White Sox Winner! Let’s Win Two Edition
tray replied to South Side Hit Men's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Hamilton will be on the roster all year. He has contributed to a couple of wins already. Tony made some good decisions. Key hit by Collins. Mercedes is starting to fade a little. I hope he picks it up in this series. -
Good question. I think he should.

Come on now Carlos. This has to be a shut down inning.

I can't believe they let the run score without a throw.

Great move sending TA !!

Wow. my advice to Zak did not age well!

Take a walk Zak

So far, I don't like the Sox offensive game plan against this guy. Start taking pitches ...this guy will walk himself into trouble.

Limit of 13 pitchers back in place next season...

Here is an old article where the author recounts the 1968 rule change concerning mound height.: 1968 Rule change reducing mound height to 10" I think that prior to discussing possible rule changes, everyone has to agree on what problem they see that needs to be addressed. is it the fact that the game has moved into all-or-nothing at-bats - strike-out or Home Run? As a fan, I I like seeing the home run and I also like strike-outs, so I personally do not see a reason to change things. I do however, acknowledge that all-or-nothing at-bats and defensive shifts take away from excitement of seeing balls hit in play. Therefore, I could see experimenting in the Minors with a lower mound, perhaps lowered from 10" to 6". At the end of the day, the game has had many changes over the years so I do not think anything is set in Stone. Look at the different configurations of the parks and home run distance...look at the Green Monster or the wall of weeds at Wrigley. -
This would have been where having Kopech as the 5th starter would have been huge. As it stands, I just hope we can split this 4 game series with Cleveland.

Hahn never did the due diligence necessary to make that determination. On the other side of the trade, I recall that the SD Manager had words with James Shields and demanded that he be traded. No way should Hahn have thrown in ANY prospect in a deal where he was already doing SD a huge favor in taking Shields off their hands. That was one of the worst trades in MLB history and there was absolutely no excuse for Hahn;s negligence.

I understood that the LaRussa sign was placed there in 2020, before he was hired as Manager and probably before those who put it there knew he had a DUI ten years earlier. So change the name on the little fuking sign and move on.

I for one, appreciate how you put a lot of thought into your posts. I value them more than those by others who often react out of some obvious and lame agenda or those who perpetually involve themselves in a laughable one-upmanship game. These are just anonymous posters who have an opinion about a game, so don't feel the need to counter them at every turn.
