  1. The Padres have been rebuilding for the last 8 plus years. i'm not sure that they are a great example.
  2. Wellington Castillo is not in the Sox long term plans. Let Navarez catch every day and develop. Playing Castillo is a waste of time and is trade value is now gone cause he got popped.
  3. Yep. Another reason why the Sox should lock up Mr. Hahn with a 5 year extension now!!!!
  4. So if we are declaring that the Ray's already won the Archer trade, then it is clear as day that Hahn got hosed on the Sale deal right??
  5. All young pitchers are ticking time bombs for the most part. There is a reason why the smart teams rebuild around stud position players and buy/trade for pitching later.
  6. Yes. You get the total of stolen bases by Nick Madrigal at the end of this season. I get the total for Gorman's entire minor league career. Deal?
  7. I'm betting a half season of at bats for Gorman versus the entirety of Madrigals minor league career. The two are not equal. Gorman will probably finish the year with 15 dingers. Little Nicky should be able to surpass that over his entire minor league career!
  8. Gormans ops is north of 1000 so far in his minor league career and the kid is only 18 and already in low a ball. That is looking pretty damn good. Kid is 3 years younger and only one level below lil Nicky.
  9. I'm not making a bet that won't pay outfor another 15-20 years lol. Also, I'm not comparing Gorman and Madrigals power numbers. I get that they are different players. However, if you believe in Madrigal then you should take the bet. A 21 year old advanced college bat taken with a top 5 pick should be able to hit more dingers over his minor league career than one season of numbers from an 18 year old just out of high school.
  10. So you don't want to take the bet, huh? No one is writing Madrigal off yet. I just think the Sox played it safe with Madrigal and will be pissed if he turns into a Tony Graffanino type player and dudes like Gorman and Kelenic become the next Chipper Jones and Jim Edmonds.
  11. Was Madrigal the best player available? Try trading him for Gorman or Kelenic right now.
  12. I said it was a small sample size, but Madrigal has not really impressed so far. Time will tell what happens. Also, wanna bet that Gorman as an 18 year old hits more homers this year than Madrigal hits his entire minor league career?
  13. Yep. Moncada is no longer the #1 2B prospect though. He has been leapfrogged by guys like Albies and Torres. Collins stock as a catcher is down from 2016 as well. The kid was an absolute reach at #10 overall if he can't stick at catcher. High OBP first baseman are a dime a dozen these days, especially ones with terrible splits. The Sox took another one of those in the second round last year.
  14. The Sox just took a highly ranked collegiate catcher in 2016.
  15. It is a very small sample size, but does this kid have any power? He hasn't hit a dinger yet in A ball with close to 100 at bats. Are we looking at a guy whose mlb ceiling is 5 to 8 homers a year? Also, Seth Beer and and Nolan Gorman have been tearing the cover off the ball so far this year. Not suprisingly, those two were drafted by the Astros and Cardinals.
  16. 660 OPS so far in his minor league career. No bueno.
  17. Is Rodon even going to be on the Sox in 2020? Some people around here think the Sox should trade him since he somehow no longer fits the Sox "competitive window"
  18. This is all so much easier said than done.
  19. It is just a post. What facts and figures did Merkin use in his assessment that Collins will stick behind the plate? I didn't see much evidence for any of his claims. Just clicking your heels three times and hoping that all these prospects turn into quality ballplayers is a fools errand. That seems to be what the Sox are banking on and it scares the hell out of me. I remember all the fluff pieces on Carson Fulmer sticking as a starter too. That worked out just as planned.
  20. This is a fluff piece and nothing more. No Merkin article is ever going to be erudite or thought provoking. No one outside the organization thinks that this kid is gonna stick at catcher. In fact, Keith Law gave him a 10% chance of sticking behind the plate during a chat a few months back.
  21. The Offspring were my first big rock concert experience. Spring of 95 at the Aragon. Quicksand and No Use for a Name opened up. I saw a dude get a popcorn size tub of beer spilled on his head and a brawl break out within the first 30 minutes lol. Good times.
  22. Let's see where they are both at this time next year. Also, comparing pitching prospects to position player prospects is not equal.
  23. Been a lot healthier than Burger lol.
  24. I don't get your argument man. Are you trying to say that Moncada is already an extremely good player? If so, then you have some pretty low standards. Moncada has to prove that he is a good player. So far he has been nothing but hype. Also, you can't just throw out his bad months and say he is having a good year. Every team would have 5-7 all stars if we just threw out all the bad stretches of their season.
  25. Yep. He was sitting there at 10 last year too. The Astros are gonna turn the kid into a good pitcher.
