  1. Yeah, that's what I don't get. If Sox draft him and want to give him $10 million, what difference does it make if Tampa Bay offers him $12 million? I understand if its a high schooler or something.
  2. This deal wouldn’t make much sense for Sox. If he’s good, you basically signed him to a one year deal and paid his posting fee for his next team. If I had to guess, Sox were ok with money and years but not the opt out after year 1.
  3. This would be awesome but I just can't imagine the Sox beating out Cubs, Phillies, Mets, or Red Sox. It made a little more sense with Murakami because of his red flags/bust potential. Someone tell me why I'm wrong.
  4. How are the comp picks valued by other teams? Would we be able to trade for one without Robert?
  5. Why is there no trade winds forum this year? Because we don't anticipate enough activity?
  6. Its funny how news of a hire with universal approval still results in the usual suspects trying to shoehorn in criticisms of Getz for 6 pages.
  7. You think Shane Smith is the best player on the Sox?
  8. Why is it embarrassing for the White Sox that they took him in Rule 5 last year? If anyone should be embarrassed, its the Brewers.
  9. What am I missing? Soxtalk is now mad at the team because Shane Smith was good?
  10. Agree. I'm sure they look at all that stuff in addition to non-monetary stuff (Do I like being in this city? Is the team good? Do I have friends in the organization? Is it close to my family/Offseason home?)
  11. I agree with you that the price of groceries doesn't come into play but I disagree on taxes. The difference is millions of dollars. These guys for sure have accountants and business managers crunching those numbers before signing.
  12. That wouldn't make any sense. They wouldn't have picked up the option.
  13. What does an OFer of comparable value to Quero look like?
  14. Didn't Al Davis' son go to a PF Chang's daily and sit at the bar?
  15. This would make no sense. They could have done a salary dump yesterday, accepted the best of the bad offers, and be free of the buyout amount and the rest of his prorated salary. It isn't rocket science. Robert will make $20 mil next year. Robert (on the open market) or his replacement would probably cost the team 50-75% of that amount. It wasn't worth it to the team to accept a subpar package if they think they can trade him next year for something worthwhile by spending only an additional $5-7 million. The only way they don't pick up the option is if he completely embarrasses himself or has some catastrophic injury before the end of the season. If they just wanted to save money, they could have dumped him 24 hours ago and people would have been cool with that.
  16. They probably won’t go 500 the rest of the way, but WestEddy is right that this is not the same team from April. That’s not a controversial opinion.
  17. I love how Soxtalk seamlessly transitions from prematurely hyperventilating about Getz not trading Houser to prematurely hyperventilating about hypothetical bad free agent signings that may occur in 8 months because the GM said they want to spend money on the team.
  18. I thought you always say it’s too early for them to sign a top tier free agent. Is that someone else?
  19. That sounds like good news to me.
  20. Again… why are people making “the money will be spent” jokes in a thread about the team leaning towards overpaying a player with a high ceiling when they could have easily done a salary dump today?
  21. All I’m saying is you can’t be mad that they don’t spend and then also be mad that they didn’t do a salary dump. It’s one or the other.
  22. If the team was as stingy as a lot of people here claim, why wouldn’t they have just dumped him for a couple trash prospects?
  23. Everyone making moves? Bieber, Soroka, and a few minutes ago, Kelly have been dealt. What other SPs have moved?
