Yeah. He seemed like a genuinely good person, or at least someone who tried to be and recognized his own shortcomings. His shows and his writing were as much social commentary as they were about food.

  • It's interesting as you get older and celebrities that impacted your life pass away, there's definitely more of a connection and shock. Impacted would have sounded funny to me years ago, and mayb

One of the rare celebrities I'd give my left nut to have his life.

Thanks for all the great articles, Hef.

Not trying to pick a fight here but that isn't a 100% death sentence. Seems a bit morbid to post that in this thread, IMO. Hopefully she beats it...

yeah maybe should have just gone in the catch-all or something rather than treating it as a "bad celebrity health news" thread

Long life. Funny show.

Tom Petty found unconscious and in full cardiac arrest last night. If he pulls through I don't know how much will still be there.

So sad to hear this. Petty is one of my all time favorites. Both his solo stuff, and some of the incredible work he did in the Traveling Wilbury's has never aged at all for me. Damn.

I think that we shouldn't put celebs in the dead thread until they're dead.

I thought that but then didn't know where to put it.

Music or catch-all.

It does sound like he may be passing away though.

He has died.

R.I.P.

Only Jeff Lynne and Bob Dylan remain from the Traveling Wilburys.

Dammit :(

Oh you're right.

f*** this year, seriously.

This is crazy. I was driving yesterday and heard a Petty song. I started thinking about this thread and had the idea of starting a thread which would be in advance of a celebrity death. The idea being to pay tribute to them before they die, rather than the usual response to their death.

I was going to start it with Tom Petty. He spans my memories from late grammar school through my early 20s. Some great music. Unique voice and sound. Then, I thought it was a little morbid.

There are more obvious names that people would name, but I thought Petty was a good one because he flies a little under the radar. I'm seriously bummed seeing that he died.
