March 1, 20179 yr QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 1, 2017 -> 03:19 PM) I think you're spot on with Gonzalez, he's a good fit for what they would be looking for. Gonzalez is a good one year place holder for Reyes. Miguel Gonzalez could be a solid little trade chip if a contender has a starter go down and they need a decent back end starting option to eat innings
March 1, 20179 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 1, 2017 -> 01:14 PM) This makes it sound again like the deals that fell apart were NOT a Q deal. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/02/al-c...medium=facebook [/i] Sounds that way, though I imagine Hahn would go out of his way to avoid admitting that a deal was in place for any particular player.
March 2, 20179 yr David Price undergoes MRI for soreness in his elbow. Wouldn't it be insane if he was going to miss a lot of time and the Red Sox came calling for Q? haha Very unlikely, I know, but would be insane. Edited March 2, 20179 yr by soxfan2014

Red Sox actually have enough depth that they could probably withstand a Price injury and still be contenders Can't see them being willing to drain the farm anymore though

They'd still have Sale, Porcello, Pomeranz, Wright and Rodriquez. They just wouldn't have the strong 3 like they wanted. He's seeing the TJ specialist Dr. James Andrews.

He's seeing the TJ specialist Dr. James Andrews. Price is seeing Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion...not good news for the Red Sox at all They have the depth to deal with this, but it always hurts losing one of your top starters

He's seeing the TJ specialist Dr. James Andrews. Agree but Wright is coming back after an injury. Granted he was an AL All-Star before he was injured. They also have Joe Kelly as long reliever in a pinch. Not sure if they have any AAA talent. I saw where Sale is able to commute to ST from his home in Fla.

Yeah and Boston apparently is the only town his wife would go to when the Sox were away.
March 2, 20179 yr I doubt Boston would gut their system and give it all to the Sox, but I wonder what they would offer for Q.
March 2, 20179 yr Maybe this prods the Yankees to rush a bit given that this could make the ALE slightly more competitive.
March 2, 20179 yr I dont think the Sawks will have much interest in Q. The reason why they went after Sale was for worst case scenarios like this. It wasnt just thinking of best case scenario of having three number 1's. They may add in mid season but I dont see them going to the well again trading for Q. That would be borderline irresponsible and totally reactionary without thought for the whole picture.
March 2, 20179 yr QUOTE (Doc Edwards Shot @ Mar 1, 2017 -> 03:12 PM) He must have thrown too much in the offseason to be coming down with dead arm at the start of ST. More pitchers need to take a page out of Mark Buehrle's book and stop throwing completely through the winter. That could be why Mark was so durable. It is usually the opposite. When you stop completely it is more difficult to get going again, especially as you age. Think of running. It's easier if you take a little time off but then get back into it at a low level. If you take 3 months off and start again all sorts of issues can arise.
March 2, 20179 yr QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 09:20 AM) Not greedy Red Sox. We'll take Benintendi please. Zero chance the Red Sox move Benintendi (would you?), even if Price is out for the season The Red Sox farm has taken big hits after trading for Sale, Pomeranz and Thornburg

I don't believe they traded for Sale as a precaution to Porcello or Price going down for any significant amount of time. You make that Sale move to put your team way over the top. Now they are just in the same spot they were last year with (even though Sale > Price).
March 2, 20179 yr Really sorry to hear this. Price is a great dude and a workhorse. That's 200+ innings Boston's pitching depth will have to account for.

Sale/Porcello/Rodriguez/Wright/Pomeranz is a decent rotation but nothing special IMO.
March 2, 20179 yr QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 10:20 AM) Sale/Porcello/Rodriguez/Wright/Pomeranz is a decent rotation but nothing special IMO. It's fine to start out with but they may be looking for another arm in June/July if someone struggles or is hurt. Let's just hope one or all of Holland, Shields, and Gonzalez are pitching decent at that time and can be flipped for something interesting on a pitching needed team. March 2, 20179 yr QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 10:48 AM) Why is Benintendi untouchable all of a sudden? Sounds like he's been untouchable all offseason.
March 2, 20179 yr QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 10:48 AM) Why is Benintendi untouchable all of a sudden? Young player who has had success in the MLB and in pressure situations including post season.
March 2, 20179 yr QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 10:53 AM) Young player who has had success in the MLB and in pressure situations including post season. Plus at this point, who are they going to replace him with? I think the Red Sox could still get a deal done without him if they wanted to. But they likely don't want to make another add that will hit their farm significantly more. They've traded a lot of good prospects over the past year and few months. Edited March 2, 20179 yr by soxfan2014
March 2, 20179 yr There's a steep drop off in talent after Boston's top three prospects. Take Beni out of the equation and you can just about bet Hahn would want both Devers and Groome in a trade for Q. Highly doubtful Boston goes for that. For now, I don't think Boston goes after Q but it could make the Yankees FO change their perspective on their ability to compete with Boston this year. The Yanks have more than enough farm depth to trade for Q and have plenty left over. Edited March 2, 20179 yr by BlackSox13
