September 27, 20178 yr QUOTE (Superstar Lamar @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 04:04 PM) any advantage to us if it is a three way tie for second (since we are teasing out all scenarios)? Tiebreaker is given to the team with the worse 2016 record, so the Phillies own the tiebreaker with us but we own the tiebreaker with the Tigers and Giants.
September 27, 20178 yr QUOTE (GreenSox @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 04:09 PM) It would help if we'd sit Abreu and Garcia; I'm not sure why they are playing every day, regardless of the need to tank. Detroit is showing teams how tanking is properly done. They aren't even trying. Detroit is a poor excuse for a baseball team.
September 27, 20178 yr QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 05:08 PM) Detroit is a poor excuse for a baseball team. Yep, 11-38 the last 49 qualifies. Giants up 3-1 going to the 8th.
September 27, 20178 yr JD Martinez just homered of Dyson, staging DBacks comeback. Bottom 9th, 3-2, nobody out.
September 27, 20178 yr QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 05:52 PM) 1st & 3rd now, nobody out after a Pollock single. Still up 3-2. And Giants lose.
September 28, 20178 yr QUOTE (Knuckles @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 04:04 PM) And Giants lose. f***ing 9th inning melt down ( again )!
September 28, 20178 yr If the Tigers lose tomorrow night, they'll enter the final weekend with the 1st pick. 11-39 the last 50
September 28, 20178 yr I laugh anytime people get happy when the Tigers are in the lead in a game. They can be up 5 runs and I still wouldn't doubt they blow it. Edited September 28, 20178 yr by SoxAce
September 28, 20178 yr Mets won, so I think that means we are locked in to a top 5 pick. The Reds won as well, so magic number to secure #4 is 3 or 4 depending on the outcome of these extra innings.
September 28, 20178 yr 4 days left Team (Games left) - Sox Magic Number to have higher pick: 1. Giants (3) - 7, Sox Elim # - 1 2. Tigers (4) - 7, Sox Elim # - 2 3. Phillies (3) - 6, Sox Elim # - 2 4. White Sox (4) 5. Reds (4) - 3 (+2.0 GA)* 6. Mets (3) 7. Padres (3) 8. Braves (4) 9. A's (4) 10. Pirates (4) * Reds need to be two games worse than the Sox in the last 4 games to have a higher pick Edited September 28, 20178 yr by flavum
September 28, 20178 yr I'm going to hold out for a little bit of hope the Sox can lose 4 and the Phillies can beat the Mets 2 out of 3.
September 28, 20178 yr The league should investigate the Tigers for intentionally losing/tanking . If found to be guilty of that the penalty should be a loss of their first round pick.
September 28, 20178 yr QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 10:41 PM) The league should investigate the Tigers for intentionally losing/tanking . If found to be guilty of that the penalty should be a loss of their first round pick. Sox always play well when the games don't matter. It's been that way for decades.
September 28, 20178 yr QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 11:41 PM) The league should investigate the Tigers for intentionally losing/tanking . If found to be guilty of that the penalty should be a loss of their first round pick. The cubs admittted to tanking and the league did nothing
September 28, 20178 yr QUOTE (oldsox @ Sep 28, 2017 -> 06:43 AM) Face it, Sox are not in line for top 3 pick. It'll be somewhere 4-6. They clinched top 5 last night.
September 28, 20178 yr QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 28, 2017 -> 07:27 AM) They clinched top 5 last night. That's good news. At this point, just hold on to the #4 pick please. Sucks that it looks like the Tigers are going to get #1.
September 28, 20178 yr Author QUOTE (Soha @ Sep 28, 2017 -> 07:32 AM) That's good news. At this point, just hold on to the #4 pick please. Sucks that it looks like the Tigers are going to get #1. Dammit. And this was a year where they were going for it. Reminds me of our 13 Sox how we ended up with a third pick.
September 28, 20178 yr Hopefully the Angels have some motivation to get to .500 before the season ends and they light up Covey. I expect some of their regulars to sit tonight, though. Also, the Indians are still trying to wrap up the AL 1-seed. Their magic number is 3, and they should beat a tired Twins team this afternoon. Low expectations for the Sox losing all 4, but it's not out of the question. And then the Phillies would have to beat the Mets twice for the Sox to move up to 3rd.
September 28, 20178 yr QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 28, 2017 -> 07:36 AM) Dammit. And this was a year where they were going for it. Reminds me of our 13 Sox how we ended up with a third pick. It will be alright man. I mean, yeah the Tigers will pick #1 or 2. But...they got little else in their system. Their future is still bleak. We're going to add the #4 or #5 pick in the draft to a system that already has Moncada, Giolito, Kopech, Jimenez, Robert, Collins, Hansen....our future is flipping loaded. And remember, the top of this draft is supposed to be deep. As in #5 hopefully will get a better player than it would most other years. We'll be fine. Edited September 28, 20178 yr by Soha
September 28, 20178 yr I could be wrong, but I thought this year's draft was deep at the top, but with few real standouts. If so, ending up at #4 might not be that big of a dropoff, especially since the top couple bonus pools have been greatly reduced vs. recent years.
September 28, 20178 yr One way to look at it is that the Draft could be divided into 4 categories: Best H. S. pitcher, best H.S. position player and the same for the Top College prospects. So, even picking 4TH, you have the best of one of those categories, at a minimum. That should console those who are so disappointed that the Sox Draft position is slipping. Moreover, there is no consensus #1, 2 or 3. Hey, those who want Beer may get your wish. He could be a reasonable pick at around #5. Edited September 28, 20178 yr by Lillian
