The Sox tried trading for Machado last offseason, they’re most certainly going after him this year.

Does anyone remember who the Sox were talking about sending in that package last year for Machado?

What would be the point of signing just Machado or Harper? If you wanted a “superstar” at one position and garbage around him we should’ve kept Sale. A hell of a lot cheaper than 1 of these 2.  I

So it’s behind a paywall and not anything new but Rosenthal clarifies again that Sox could be big spenders and said it also aligns with new tv deal, which the bundling of bulls/hawks I guess sounds still promising even if not what it was years ago.

So that will be what, 4 consecutive years the Sox will have won the offseason? What's their record during that period?

RT @jonmorosi: Sources: #WhiteSox active in starting pitching market, with interest in Patrick Corbin and J.A. Happ, among others. The reason: Reynaldo Lopez is the only current White Sox pitcher who threw 50+ IP this year with a sub-4.00 ERA. @MLB @MLBNetwork

The difference will be we get legit young stars and not overrated washes up wanna be's. This would be in addition to the good young talent being brought up through our farm.

I don't think he knows any more than we do.

At this point, I doubt he does. He does have a source, but keeps things closer to the chest after Hahn gave him crap for leaking moves (I think it was the Shields deal?).

"6. The White Sox and Padres are ready to pounce.

One rule of the Hot Stove: Pay close attention to teams emerging from lengthy rebuilding efforts.

The White Sox are the American League's answer to the Phillies. While their roster isn't as strong (yet) as that of Philadelphia, they play in a winnable division and could compete in the next couple seasons if they land Harper, Machado, Corbin or lefty Dallas Keuchel. If the Indians trade Corey Kluber or Carlos Carrasco -- and industry opinion remains divided as to whether they actually will -- White Sox GM Rick Hahn has even more incentive to make bold moves."

This period of inactivity is driving me crazy. Someone needs to do something already.

That's why MLB needs a salary cap. In other sports with the cap,  It just goes crazy right when it starts because guys need to sign with teams before they run out of money. Either that or maybe remove the draft pick loss and international money forfeited on qualifying offers if the player signs before a certain date. It would be motivation for teams to make better offers sooner.

I think we'll hear rumors this week but I don't feel like there's going to be much action. Winter Meetings are less than two weeks away now.

I knew it’d be slow around Thanksgiving week and minus the one trade it was. I think it heats up toward the weekend. Still a couple weeks away from the Winter Meetings.

I think a floor would be important as well to 1. Keep teams from pocketing too much and 2. Keep the total rebuild excuse from making teams too awful.

Draft lottery for all teams not in the playoffs. Equal shots. Maybe after the top 3 or 4 picks, go in reverse order. If there was a cap, the playing field would be leveled a bit. ESPN, Fox, and MLB Network might not like it. Anything that helps big markets is good for ratings.

I'm sure the ledgers looked pretty good

Please no. The NBA draft is terrible, and the NBA has the most lopsided teams in all professional sports.

That is because basketball is different. Super teams wouldn't work in  MLB. 2 or 3 superstars and a bunch of scrubs doesn't work in baseball.

Are teams really tanking for the draft? I’d say service time plus trying to acquire as many assets as possible is a bigger factor? Not saying it’s zero factor, especially in September, but doesn’t feel like it’s biggest.

What would it take to get king Felix from the mariners?
