Trading Cease for Haniger is just a bad idea. I'd rather get Mallex Smith back and give them something inconsequential. The Sox desperately need a CF to replace Engel.

Yeah the Yankees were interested in Alonso before. With their current options being a Bird/Voit platoon, Alonso still makes sense for them, even if their interest was purely about landing Machado before.

Would have preferred Encarnacion to Alonso, but no changing that now so this makes no sense. If there's a deal in place for Jose in place would be the only scenario, and that seems like it would be a complete 180 from the front office has been saying. 

Or it could be that the Sox and Astros have a deal in place for Abreu. Jose can go to the playoffs  with Houston and come right back in 2020. 

If we get encarnacion I’d gather he wouldn’t actually play here.

That’s the way I see it in terms of why we’d still have interest in a DH

Encarnacion is going to make 20 million in 2019. Just saw that on MlB. At 35 does anybody think he's worth that much money . . . and whomever we trade for him. I don't think so.

No based off his contract and buy out he is under water about 9M.

What do you think they would do with Alonso if they did plan one? Trade him again? Or would they trade Abreu instead?

I think they'd trade Alonso in the event that we don't get Manny but do get Harper

I would think he probably would be in an Encarnacion trade, although I really don’t think there is much to this rumor.

He’s a DH only. If Sox really are interested in these guys, then they are 100 percent trading one of Jose or Alonso.

Why are we interested in either Martinez or Encarnacion? What hole do either of those fill? We don’t need any more 1B/DH/LF types.

Maybe he can catch?
