Yeah idk if they will, but if they're bad but Herrera is doing great, they can put a high price on him having the extra years of control.

Yeah I think the idea(Atleast what it seems like they want to do) is to not suck to the point where they want to trade relievers again.

Yes, plus betances is a free agent after this year and Chapman can opt out

Awesome, I wanted them to improve the bullpen going into this season. Colome and now Herrera with guys like Jones, Fry, Hamilton and Vieira, the bullpen might be the team’s biggest strength. 

I expect that this takes them out of the Ottavino race but I still would like for them to sign another guy with high leverage experience like Brad Boxberger.

 

Seems like a good deal.  Plus, it shows chili's source was right.  Good news for Machado?

Meh. So far, all we've done this off-season is acquire scrubs. Colome, Nova, Herrera, McCann, Alonso. And frankly, the bullpen is the last piece a team should build. With a few exceptions, nobodies turn into studs and back into nobodies before you can even learn their names. Think Politte, Hermanson, and Cotts of oh so many years ago.

Those guys aren't scrubs.....game changers no. But definitely good additions.

Whether we sign Machado or Harper, we're still at least 2 years from competing. Signing a legit reliever while his value is down to a 2 year deal looks like a rebound and flip deal. This is still the beginning of a major rebuild.

Yeah they're both good. And McCann is just a backup catcher who doesn't have that much influence on the season. And Alonso is being used as a pawn.

Steamer projects Herrera at 45 Inn, 0.3 WAR.

They definitely have the option to flip him if he's doing great (should always be willing to listen on relievers) but he may be part of the team for a competitive year or two if a lot goes right.
