They drafted a 5'9" 190 Sr catcher.  You're kidding me, right.

  • Lord you can tell some of the newbs here who don't understand how this process works in the draft. Been like this for a while.

@bmags you've been killing it with the draft analysis and profiles (and moderation, I would assume), thank you

Hey, there's our catcher.

Sox 8th rounder, Ivan Gonzalez, C from WVU.

I like Gonzalez, decent K to walk for a later pick, plus he is a catcher.

They've got to be saving for 1-2 more prep players.

I hope there is a plan for something more splashy tomorrow

I’m guessing it’s for the guys in rounds 2-4, as they weren’t able to cut costs and took Vaughn. I’m personally fine with it.

Gonzalez doesn't look bad from a hitting perspective. Nothing amazing, but not bad. I want to hear about his defense though.

It is also way better for development to have constant access to good coaches, fitness experts, and nutritionists.

They have those. What they don't have is the money to spend on better nutrition and high end workout facilities.

That could be as well, I'm ok there too.

Do we like the first handful of picks enough to throw away the next few?

This has been their draft strategy the last few years.  Always 3-4 senior signs in the top10 rounds. To help keep the real talent.

Terrific Drew.  What a better way to start than to take the allotted slot amount

I'm skeptical. I think Dalquist is asking for something like 2 million when the third round slot is 750K. Sox are paying that Southern California premium I suppose.

Yup. This is not atypical.

Yup.  Gotta save money to buy guys out of their water polo commits.
