Angels decline $14 million option on Kole Calhoun

Waiting for another Dickerson "puff piece."

In all seriousness, I'm not sure it really matters all that much if we miss on Wheeler and don't sign AT LEAST one of the 4-5 hitters (Grandal/Gregorious/Moustakas/Castellanos/Ozuna) that are closer to their "normal/predictable" Sox price range.

  • Zero interest in Calhoun.  This is a white sox 2012-2016 move.   "Hey!  It's a name!  Remember this guy?  He hits for power and hits lefty and just ignore everything else please thanks"

  • He’s my pick for player most likely to sign with Sox and forget how to play baseball

  • Calhoun is fine if we have significantly upgraded pitching.  If we have signed Jake Odorizzi and Tanner Rourk and KC, then he is not fine.

Do you think my arguments for Dickerson are puff pieces ? ;)

Other somewhat interesting names to hit the market today:

Derek Dietrich

Eric Thames

Martin Perez

Didn't see Dietrich, would be a nice bench piece

With a trade, what value does Yolmer have? I'm not sure how his contract situation works with a trade - would we have to tender him a contract first before we trade him, or can we trade him first and let the other team pay the arb price? Does he even have value as a trade piece (not as a headliner but a sweetener)?

Sox could trade him before non tender deadline. Or tender him a contract and trade him after.

Problem is, at his projected arb price, he has no trade value.

If I had to pick from the choices here I would most certainly choose Castellanos

I agree but I am afraid that Ricketts/Theo will offer the moon to get him...maybe 5/100 or something.

When Ricketts wants something, he usually gets it because he is flush with Ameritrade money and is willing to spend whatever it takes.  You don't want to get into a bidding war with someone  that has more money than brains.

Ameritrade has nothing to do with how the cubs spend their money.  Their budget and spending is based on how much money the cubs earn.

5/100 for Castellanos is crazy town

Modern MLB does not give a guy like him longer than a three year deal given how poor his glove is

We have already seen this proven to be completely false when bumped against the Luxury tax.

Zero doubt if they sign him 2018 Kole Calhoun walks thru that door.

He was worth 2.8 WAR last year and 3 in 2018.

I think he’s destined to be a White Sox player. That accidental tweet by Gregor solidifies it.

What was the tweet again?

He posted and quickly deleted a tweet that looked like it was supposed to be a private message. He said he spoke to KW and KW said they will be pursuing a lefty RF in free agency that hits for power.

I had the Tweet saved.  It's not that earth shattering.

Just knowing previous targets and adding this tweet and the fact that Bennetti was gushing about in during their series, I'd say its safe to assume he is a target. I'd bet that they sign him.

I would assume they were referring to Calhoun.  I thought the same thing since someone was talking about Castellanos.

I'd rather have Castellanos in all honesty, despite the defense.

His glove is flat out bad. I can't see him getting beyond 3-4 years tops due to his poor RF defense that is only likely to get worse.
