Yeah, I assumed Hinch would be fired FWIW. Luhnow I wasn't positive about. This feels like baseball kicking the can down the road for the lifetime ban, and allowing Crane to hand that out himself pretty much.

Well now that both guys have been fired it's a big fucking deal.  The Astros will be in disarray for a few years.  This is great news for the Sox.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Boston once that investigation is over with

This wont put them in disarray.

Luhnow, I agree. Hinch may get a little bit of a break based on some of the stories of trying to stop it.

I see this the exact opposite way.

Luhnow didn't really "know" about this in the same way as the people involved in the day to day. Luhnow also has a skill set that is much harder to replace than a baseball manager. He built an organization and achieved things most GM's can't. I would guess someone rolls the dice on him... heck, Preller got other shots and he's a complete asshole.

I still think Crane should be forced to sell the team but he fired Luhnow and Hinch to save his own ass.

Dude everybody in that org is sending out a resume this afternoon.  Their rabbis are gone.

This is going to end with Theo being the GM of the Astros isn't it?

It will bring them way down from the high horse they've been riding.

I'll be the first to say it- if the Sox fire Renteria, I hope they hire Hinch

I guess time will tell, but Luhnow is the devil.

Well that's pretty extreme

Idk, they'll probably promote an assistant and not miss much of step.

I mean, I imagine many of these people on board are Luhnow guys. He was just removed from his post, and the system beneath him now doesn't have clear leadership. I could see a ton of people jumping ship now. Maybe not, but it would make sense.

One can only hope Luhnow and Hinch never get another job in baseball again due to being very toxic. AJ Preller is the counterargument.

Problem is their GM and their guy in line to be the next GM were both removed - 1 banned permanently.

I have to be honest, I didn’t understand how sophisticated their scheme was till I read the articles today.  What they did was just brazenly stupid.  The Astros should have been forced to forfeit all playoff revenue over the last three years in addition to the other punishments they were hit with.

Someone edit the thread title to say they've been fired.

Players were complicit, even if unpunished...

Bingo.  ?

IDC what organization it is, if you lose people at that level of leadership abruptly, your organization will suffer.

I would force them to return the World Series trophy. It’s a cosmetic gesture but many teams display their trophies in the park for fans to see when they come to a game. The Astros should not have that privilege.

As it should be.  He's the one who brought these assbags in and allowedthis behavior to occur.  He should be out too.

Some comments from Astros fans via Astros' message boards regarding Crane firing Hinch and Luhnow:

Seems like the Astros could have rebounded from the penalties against them. Crane made sure that wasn't going to happen.

Just unreal. Who is the new GM now that all the assistants have been poached?
And now for manager. Holy hell. Just speechless.

One of the worst 24 hour stretches in Houston sports history

The Monday Massacre.

Wtf. That would be like the saints firing Payton after he was suspended. Stupid ass move.

Whelp boys, it was fun while it lasted

With being fired, if anyone hired Luhnow/Hinch, they'll have to serve their suspensions then.  Effectively a ban for Luhnow.  Hinch may get a job as a bench coach or some shit - sit a year- and then come back.
