This is why I think the FO is smart to get ahead of all of these contracts. If the players get anthing changed in those years, the deal could be a real bargain.

Hopefully the team makes the playoffs a few times in there. If so, revenue should grow at a rate sufficient to keep up with the current contracts.

In an industry that's seen 50% revenue growth over a period of a decade MLB GMs are not going to be handing out many front loaded contracts. Just doesn't make any sense.

I think his FA contract if he's really good would pay him around 35 million annually; obviously it would be more for a 2 year deal, but this is an extension so it's not really a two year deal.

Yeah, but my point is we overpaid a bit on the arbitration years to get two below market free agent years. Machado got $300M over 10 years and could have gotten substantially more in terms of AAV on a short term deal. Someone might honestly pay a legit star 3B $40M to $45M per season if it was on a two year deal during their prime years. Therefore, the savings we are getting is far more significant than the savings you are suggesting IMO.
